Don't pour sealant gunk into the cooling system. It was dodgy even with sixties American cars in which everything was huge - I speak from bitter personal experience here - but would be insanity in a modern Eurobox with its tight tolerances in every area including cooling capacity.

Find the leak and fix it, with a replacement radiator if necessary. Shouldn't cost the earth surely?

Hi there,

I wonder whether the middle position of the temperature indicator on the clock is normal or is it too much? for example i'm driving only a 2 or 3 miles to the shop and it gets in the middle position on the clock that fast.Is that normal?

I have Focus 2001 1.8 LX hatchback.

Thanks in advance! Read more

Appreciate your help, Screwloose. You put me out of my misery:) Cheers!

Went past one of the above today and noticed the sticker on the back advising the rest of us that its limited to 70...

Set me wondering why...

If it was to increase mpg then perhaps someone should tell them that limiting it to 70 won't do a lot of good as there aren't many places that you can do 70 anyhow the sort of driving they do! More useful would be teaching their drivers how to drive economically rather than just putting a speed limiter on it... Read more

I drove a Petrol Transit for a very large UK company and limiting speed makes no difference to fuel consumption - we used Shell garages to fill up and when they started offering tokens I drove in highest gear I could with foot to floor -needless to say my consumption figures were not good - but I did get a lot of tokens to get a 1/32 scale model of a Dodge Viper- plus tool box's - torch's etc

According to my latest car mag. contraveners of traffic laws in Iran now risk up to 74 lashes or a year in jail, 70 in a 30 not quite so attractive anymore eh. Far more effective than 1000s of ugly speed cameras too I'll wager (and cheaper). Now that really is my last word on the subject. Have a safe weekend all.

Pugugly, don't you think the British motorist already massively overpays what are little more than bare-faced "fines" well in advance?
Just thinking of duty on fuel, car purchase tax, VED, insurance hikes to cover the "extra cost" of everything from decimalisation to the Iraq war, hourly rates at monopoly main dealers, VAT on all of the aforementioned, "Congestion charge", more and more tolls...
We all know who really deserves to be tied up and lashed mercilessly, and it ain't the mimser in lane two with a blown exhaust...

Hope someone can possible advise me further. The engine management light on the dash has been lit for sometime. I took the van to a vauxhall dealer who put in on the computer, and replaced the solenoid valve. The light stayed out for 24 hours, but the following day came back on again. The van is running very rough and using alot of diesel. The garage then replaced the ECU and pressure sensor, but this did not fix it either. Please can anyone give me any ideas what the problem may be. The garage have given up.

Book it in at a renault garage and get their technicians to diagnose the fault, they are a lot more experienced with these vans and should be able to find the fault.

On the 29th of last month I took my Renault trafic (based) 2.5 diesel motorhome to local
garage for MOT in the process they damaged it -to which they admitted liability-
however they subsequently failed van on emissions and brake stop light.
I left it to be seen to, but although I got MOT certificate-they wont give me the bill
until I GET ESTIMATE for repair- my friends tell me that this maybe because they (garage) want to load my bill up- what are my options...any advise please.
thanx Read more

Not quite sure how bad the damage is, but clearly the van's driveable.

If so, I'd do nothing but get some estimates for the damage work. When they send you their bill you can counter-claim. As you say, they've already admitted liability.

We are car shopping again for my partner. We have a budget of £6K max, preferably £5K would be nice and the only considerations are a MINI, Grande Punto Sport or a Mk2 MG ZR.

Dilema is the MINI will be older and higher mileage - 60K plus on the clock and probably an 02 at best. The Punto would be 06 or 56 with very few miles - infact the deal they are doing on a brand new limited edition stripe is good as well but a bit out of budget and the ZR will hopefully bring the diesel into the pot and be top spec maybe 56 plate/

Whats more sensible in terms or residuals/cost of ownership over 3 years and 50,000 miles?

She has her heart set on a MINI again - should never have got rid the first one she had, but thats another story, but after spending all yesterday being hassled by salesmen and trawling every dealership and car supermarket in about 20 mile radius those are the options and I think the MINI may be the wrong one....

Any help greatly appreciated so I can get on with my bank hols and not sit glaring at autotrader :-) Read more

No - its a specific Yamaha designed unit for the Puma. Remarkable normally aspirated VVC, revs like a motor bike engine - go to the Pumapeople website for very useful help.

Interesting developments in the local elections where Roger Jones, the chairman of Greater Manchester PTA and the champion of the proposed congestion charge for Greater Manchester lost his seat to an independent party which campaigned on a platform of stopping the charge.

Which model of Seat did he lose and if he is so into public transport, why does he have a car anyway?
