Have checked the fuse ~ seems ok. The other 2 speeds work ok, could this mean I have to replace the motor for the wipers and if so approximately how long to fit, please advise?
{no need to be 'so' precise with the engine cc:- 1.7 will do} Read more
Hi all,
I have a 1996 5dr 306 Meridian and was told when I bought it that the central locking plip controller had stopped working after the battery had been renewed. I have looked online and found instructions on how to do it. Or so I thought. I have followed these instructions, but to no avail. (Turn ignition key to certain pos and then press both buttons on the inside of the key itself together). Has anyone got any other ideas please?
Cheers,

Whilst in traffic, earlier today Sat 3/5, suddenly unable to engage gear. I was not most popular whilst holding up traffic on Ladbroke Grove earlier today. The car was resisting my changing gear, making screaching noises and jerking movement. The clutch still seems ok but have problems trying to engage gear and up until this incident both clutch and gearchange were working perfectly, in other words no sign of failure.
Because this was so sudden could this be a linkage problem, please advise and all suggestions most welcome and appreciated. Read more
Peter, thanks for your reply. I have so far deduced that whilst the engine is on the gears can be selected with the clutch depressed or so it seems. Just when you thought you were in a certain gear or even neutral and the moment the clutch is raised it's a different story.
It originally displayed symptoms of gear linkage failure, then it became a possible engine mount failure, now it would seem to be a spider gear failure or a replacement gearbox. With the gearbox being obviously reconditioned.
Hi All,
I've just had a letter from the National Mileage Register for a car I part exed over a year ago. They've written to me asking me for the mileage of my old Vauxhall Vectra which I traded in for my current MX5.
I presuming either the dealer or the subsequent owner has clocked it. I usually fill the mileage in on the V5 when registering cars so am guessing the new owner has subsequently stated the mileage is lesser than it was at it's last MOT. Any ideas??? Read more
A dealer or private owner has simply checked the "NMR Investigation" box on an HPI check. The NMR send a letter to every registered owner on the DVLA database asking for details. Combined with past MOT's and mileages put in on V5's it enables a full picture to be built up of the car's past history and the dealer to sell it with warrantied mileage.
My C5 2.0 16V petrol Auto has finally got its first proper fault. The motor that drives the cooling fan that sits in front of the radiator has started making some nasty noises. Where once it just made a quiet hum, its now prducing a load of droning / groaning noises. If you try to spin the fan with your finger it will move but it feels stiff and stops as soon as you take your finger off (it wont spin freely). Theres a bit of a sqeak too and the fan seems a bot wobbly on its shaft. It has about 10mm wobble at the blade tips. All this at just over 1 year old and 13,500 miles. I assume this will be a case of "off with the old and on with the new? Read more
Getting it done next Tuesday and unbelievably there was some debate about who was to pay! The car has only done 13K and they were going to charge me £217 + labour to fix it. I pointed out that as the car was only a year old it should be a warranty job. This was met with, "I'll have to go and check". They then confirmed that as the car had indeed only done 13K, Citroen would pay. How nice of them. I wonder at what point a 'cooling fan+electric motor' is regarded as a consumable and the customer is expected to pay?!
I have just treid to open the bonet and it won't oblige. It does not feel as if the cable has snapped, more like that the catch at the front isn't working.
Any ideas how I can get in?
Thank you! Read more
An old trick this which used to work, but it is a two-person job. Whilst you are pulling on the catch inside the car, get someone to put downward pressure on the bonnet in the area of the catch. Obviously try not to dent the bonnet!
Good luck.
I have an on-going problem with my 2002 1.8 zetec estate. Briefly, the speedo fails, lights dim, radio goes quiet, wipers slow down, sometimes engine stops when changing down gears but will re-start if I let the clutch out quickly. If it doesn't re-start, I lose power steering & coast to a halt, which is scary/dangerous if I'm going round a corner or island - it's rolled up to the kerb more than once. (Usually, after a minute or so everything returns to normal - sometimes after only a few seconds). This has been happening intermittently for some time now & I have had new battery, alternator, plugs, etc & even Ford diagnostics run on the engine cannot find a fault anywhere! Obviously there IS something wrong here - does ANYONE PLEASE have any ideas???!!!

I have a 1999 focus with exactly the same problem did you ever resolve the problem on yours
I was driving the other day and this 300 bhp Porsche was trying to get past me....I floored the throttle and left him a speck in my mirror. Best drive of my life at a track day in Oxfordshire. I was in a 400bhp Ferrari 360 and I have to say I was thoroughly chastised by swmbo for suggesting we sell the house to buy the Ferrari.
I have never had so much power under my right foot and the feeling is tremendous as the beast just unleashes that raw energy. Also tried the Porsche-quick but civilised- a Subaru 4x4 which was amazing and best fun of all a Lotus Elise. That little car is crazy, only 120 bhp but is the weight of a matchbox and goes like stink. Now its back to the diesel.....................

Hi all,
Last year June i bought a Renault Megane 1.6 VVT Dynamique Automatic (petrol).
It was previously a Cat D write off however it has been perfectly repaired and has an engineers report.
Done approx 33000 miles.
Runs beautifully and never had any problems.
How much do you think i can get for it?
My partner and I are looking to upgrade to a Eos hence the sale. Read more
Looking at those figures quoted by Glass and what 05 plate ones are fetching on autotrader i'd go with a bid of approx £5k for yours now. It may seem low compared to what you paid last year but if decent clean examples can be had for £6.5k then there is no way you'd pay anywhere near that for one thats previously been written off.
I tried a static rev/no load test on a 30,000 mile tdci transit tourneo, it would only rev to 3000 rpm, is this normal?
I drove it 20 miles and didn't notice any limit, but i didn't flog it any way Read more
oddly enough, after it not being used for a week (its parked up for a bit) it now revs happily.....
i wish life was uncomplicated
it will be the motor at fault changed loads off these for same fault
