My wifes Jazz is just over 12 months old.

Since new, she has had to wipe any moisture off the outside of the door windows. Opening & closing the widows does not remove any rain or dew from glass.

With the drivers window half open, I can see a gap between the glass & the window rubber. I confirmed this by pouring a kettle of water over the glass & saw water coming out of the holes at the bottom of the door.

This was pointed out the the dealer at the cars first service. My wife was told that this was normal due to the 'curved' window glass & that the one of the salemans Civic was the same!

I konw that this can't be right & was wondering if this is a common problem with Honda window rubbers.. Read more

This is not a fault - Its designed like that !

Exactly as other posts have said - prevents scratches etc.

The heater on my ZX has just stopped blowing hot air.
I have seen the previous posts regarding heater matrix failure but I have no leaks in the cockpit or engine compartment.
Also, the cooling system is overheating very quickly which I have not seen mentioned on the other posts.
Am I looking at a new matrix and all that involves or is there a blockage in the system?
If the latter, advice on shifting it would be gratefully received.

Whatever you do they do not let it overheat for long (i.e in the red) or you will end up replacing the / weakening the head gasket for sure.

Optimist

Yesterday was one of those rainy days when the wet sits up on the surface of well-polished cars.

I was wondering if my car (I have a Nissan Almera; not sure if I've mentioned that before) would, even at its advanced years, look good like that.

Is there a way of achieving the look which involves the absolute minimum of effort?

Thanks. Read more

Someone broke into my 1998 1.2 S Reg Punto and when i opened the door the red lever was on the floor. I have looked through the manual to try and work out where it goes and what it was attached to but cannot find anything. The battery is now flat and i cannot open the bonnet. Anyone let me know what it was attached to, maybe i can pull a wire which it was attached to and open the bonnet. Anyone know another way to open without the lever? Read more

Presumably as you don't know where it goes, you don't open the bonnet very often.

It goes under the steering column to the left, in line with the clutch pedal. If you look under the dash you will see the bracket it attaches to above the clutch pedal with the bonnet cable passing through the bracket.

You may be able to re-attach the handle if it isn't broken, but presumably it has broken because the bonnet catch itself is partially seized. If it is broken, try pulling the cable with a pair of pliers or preferably mole grips. At the same time, have a friend push down on the bonnet to relieve some of the pressure on the catch. When you get the bonnet open, make sure you lubricate the catch!

emina in the south pacific

HELP! couldnt find emina in model drop down.. I think the previa is the same.. or similar
car specifics:
1996 Toyota Emina Diesel
KD- CXR10G- RRSET
3C-TE
2184CC

i know very little about cars in general im afraid, and i am having some problems with my toyota emina. It will not start when it is hot! If i take it anywhere i have to let it sit untill it gets cold, or otherwise it will not start.
I have been told a number of things, one of them being the fuel pump which i am told is electronic will need to be replaced. They are very hard to find here in Fiji which is where i live, and i have been told that its easier to replace the whole engine! seems a bit overboard to me!
My father priced one in New Zealand, where he lives and he was told that it will cost 11thousand dollars for a new electronic fuel pump. Yes 11thousand! Apparently it will have to come from Japan or something.
I am wondering though, if it was the fuel pump wouldnt it be playing up all the time? not just when it was hot?
Any other suggestions? the fuel pump was flushed out and apprently had a bit of gunk in it. We have had the fuel filter replaced aswell, also we have put in a new battery, and currently have the turbo timer disconnected, it seems to have been put in sometime after production and does not have a switch.
any suggestions would be great and muchly appreciated

thanks :)

(Well I often wear a hat.) I've just been from Selby to near Whitby via the A19, A64 and A169; no speed cameras, plenty of hazards between Pickering and Whitby, and also near Kirkham on the A64, but it's almost all NSL.

So the authorities there regard motorists as reasonably intelligent beings able to make their own decisions after some good advice via road signs. Wow, that's really a revelation to those of us who live in Bucks.

And drivers up there get a move on. 60 mph on single carriageway roads (where safe so to do). Another revelation!

I hope that for me your suspicion of my being DM is a good thing...?
Or was/is he a lousy writer with the most fatuous of views? :-)

Rest assured, it's a good thing. The writer I had in mind was very entertaining with his writing style and many missed his column after a change of editor led to a wholesale clear out of columnists.

what`s the alternative for the economy minded motorist as fuel prices continue to rise?

Very efficient cars based on `need` and not `want`, such as the upcoming VW UP, said to due 94MPG? You could get a family into that size of car as was done decades ago when the car was full of people and luggage on the roof, or trailer.

Now that`s a thought. Why drive around all year in a 40MPG car thats largely empty if you can do it in a 94MPG VW UP, by pulling a trailer two or three times a year.

What`s wrong with going on holiday with the luggage in a small trailer if it means you get nearly 100MPG the rest of the year?
But has that become a concept outside the `normal` in society, looked upon by other motorists as a wobbling three wheeler or a cyclecar grinding slowly along with its grim faced occupants peering out at another world of luxury and comfort?

In other words are trailers now only culturally normal en route to the tip?

I remember from University many years ago, that horrible feeling of `restriction` in travel range due to petrol costs.
To avoid this, for the motorist, needing more than two seats, with economy in mind, facing restrictions of use, why not use a trailer for luggage and ultra economical 94MPG car as a means of continuing liberty of movement?

Any thoughts?

I think that the speed limits in France are the same for towing trailers/caravans as
for solo cars (except where a separate limit is shown for caravans often on downhill
sections of the motorways) so 80+ (130kph) is legal - note I did not say
"safe!

You are right! Blimey!!

I am dismantling mmy 306XTDt engine and gearbox to replace engine.
Out of car so i thought nice easy job for Sunday morning. Removed the Alan keyed starter motor bolts and the 16 mm head bell housing bolts. Got the extension drive shaft out and pulled.

Clunk out 2 inches and dead stop and could see clutch lever come right way back, could see lots of rust on pressure plate so thought maybe the spline had nipped up in the clutch plate centre.

Grunt push pull WD40 no go.

Looks like i have forgotten to undo something or yo have to twist and turn and hold your mouth the right way???

Any help before I undo one by one the allan bolts holding the pressure plate to the flywheel?

Its Sunday here so i can ask my wrecker man in 24 hours.

HELP!!

The bit that plugs in on the hoses, will check wreckers.

I fixed the radiator using 3M Amine/Epoxy resin as used in direct burial transformer potting mix.
I reamed the hole out to match the o/d of the heater bypass hose and then pushed the elbow into the hole and let this 3M stuff set. its solid as the original.

Gearbox back on new engine and waiting on the belts to come.

Why do they put so much locktite on the crankshaft bolt?

Got my Haynes from UK and have locked the camshaft pulley, fuel pump and flywheel ready to put new timing belt on when it gets here.

I have a 2002 vectra 1.8 ls that has had a misfire since i bought it, it has had a new coil pack, I have spent several hours trying to find out what the problem is and now i'm at my whits end, upon checking the injection system I have found that there is no pulse to number 4 injector, the ecu looks fairly new, i've tried linking a wire from the start of the plug on the loom but still no pulse, could it be the ecu and if so can i just replace the ecu from a breakers or does it need to be re-programed.

Bought trade or private?

The ECU has the ability to turn off the injector on a misfiring cylinder to protect the cat. Your next step is a code read. Check the coil plug's pins are tight.

ECUs are security coded and new ones are supplied blank; the software has to be uploaded by the dealer.
