1993 1901 ZXtd Heater Failure & Over Heating - twynham
The heater on my ZX has just stopped blowing hot air.
I have seen the previous posts regarding heater matrix failure but I have no leaks in the cockpit or engine compartment.
Also, the cooling system is overheating very quickly which I have not seen mentioned on the other posts.
Am I looking at a new matrix and all that involves or is there a blockage in the system?
If the latter, advice on shifting it would be gratefully received.

You may find that the two are connected. Overheating and lack of heat from the heater would suggest loss of circulation somewhere. Firstly, are you sure that there is no air in the cooling system, have you tried bleeding it? Overheating is usually caused by a faulty thermostat but if its covered a fairly high mileage it could be due to a partially blocked radiator, the only real cure being a new one. Feel the top of radiator after starting the engine, it should remain cold until the engine reaches normal temperature then will suddenly get hot as the thermostat opens. If it does this but still overheats, a radiator will probably be needed. It would help to know under what circumstances it overheats - in traffic, at speed, idling? Could be that the fan is not working or possibly the water pump although I have never had one fail on an XUD engine.

Hi Peter. N.,
Thanks for that, it looks like it's the thermostat which is a big relief.
Cheers,
Les.

Whatever you do they do not let it overheat for long (i.e in the red) or you will end up replacing the / weakening the head gasket for sure.
