A supermarket trolley or vehicle has left some nasty scratches and scuffs on the rear corner of the plastic bumper. Colour Black magic which is a kind of metallic I believe.
These are down to the grey undercoat
Does the plastic take Holts aerosol paint without any special preparation. I expect I would have to use a clear coat afterwards?.

I'll leave it for them to tell you; it will depend on what sort of cover-up job the seller did on it.

After weeks of web browsing, brochure thumbing and incredibly tedious test drives I finally made a decision. I had become so indecisive that this feels like a quite disproportionate success.

I thought the Mercedes C200K and C220Cdi pedestrian, lumpy, soggy. That horrible pretend Tiptronic box. It sucked the life out of me. The Audi A5 and A4 were strangely disconnected. Amazing gearbox, if it lasts. Literally couldn't detect the changes even in MANUAL mode. Understand now why HJ used the word balletic. Point it right in the apex and it's pulled through the bend as if by magnetic forces. If you're going to buy a car with your head this could be it.

In spite of its imperfections and my imminent decrepitude I couldn't get past the skate-like BMW 325d. It's a complete driver's car. The engine and transmission are so well matched and implemented I had to suppress a snigger every time I touched the gas. It pulled like a train. The steering is so heavy I will build up muscles in my arms. And it's so direct it could be replaced with a rocker switch marked right and left. There's little risk of information overload with the heater and the on/off button for the radio.

But at the end of the day I just couldn't resist one last hurrah in a hooligan's car so I have ordered the bum waggler with my heart.

Thanks to everyone who helped. Read more

I would have liked Le Mans blue but they only do it in the Sport line. I didn?t want all the associated boy racer paraphernalia and rubber band tyres. So I ordered Montego blue, the next most impudent colour, I thought. (My head would have ordered silver but I am buying it with my heart remember.) Black leather so I can keep it for years, hopefully without it looking tatty.

I hoovered up some of the least expensive options ? windscreen shading, digital compass(!), something to do with the rear head restraints, can?t remember what now, and split rear seats so I can stick a Christmas tree in it once a year. Auto box, of course, I?ve been a two pedal guy for over twenty years. I don?t know why anybody would want to stamp on that clutch pedal and connect up the transmission in their own time.

It comes as standard with the 3.0 locomotive engine and the steering wheel gear change. I have that last item in my current car and I think it?s a real advance. I use it to get off the line quickly and into traffic gaps from a standing start whilst keeping both hands on the wheel.

Being an old buffer I had wanted walnut but the salesman showed me a car with black poplar trim which I thought looked good with the leather (a bit like the E Class Avantgarde) so I went for that.

Don?t have a delivery date yet. About eight weeks I expect. The BMW dealer got within a few hundred pounds of some bloke with a shed and web site so I ordered it locally in the hope of getting some service in future. Doubtless enlightenment lies in store in due course. Buying it from the franchise agent also means I don?t have to pay for it until I get it. The internet broker wanted all the money to be paid some time before I saw the car, which might have had tedious results.

As every car buyer who uses it knows, this is a great site. It redresses the balance of information which would otherwise be ruthlessly exploited. It also shifts more cars by exposing them to a massive audience. So everybody wins.

Thanks again.

I was in Hull today. We came around the corner and there was an array of marked police cars, numerous police officers and for some - that dreaded ANPRS van?

Now this is the interesting bit?.

?.I am insured, I have no points, I have a full & valid UK licence and my car is MOT?d, taxed & tested. Having all of these you would think the ANPRS would not flag me or my vehicle up?

WRONG!!!

I WAS PULLED as the ANPRS threw a wobbly (so I was informed) over the validity of the MOT and my insurance details.

After 10 or so mins (and a precursory check, chassis & engine numbers, tyres, lights etc.,) I was allowed to go (no idea what they did in the background) but not one apology for the inconvenience or a valid explanation given as to why I was actually stopped.

I asked and was told we (the police) routinely stop vehicles that we 'feel' look suspicious?!

'So, I have a guilty looking car?!!!' I quipped back.

I asked why the ANPRS flagged my vehicle as no insurance and no MOT and I was again informed as mentioned and asked to drive on.

I thought this technology was bomb proof or were they looking for something else?

Have you thought that they had the idea that your car was cloned and were checking it out.

Hi,

Having put up with a troublesome Skoda Fabia I am tempted to look at a Mazda 323 1.5LXI advertised locally. Is there anything specific I should look out for and when should the cam belt be changed and is it expensive

Cheers

Uncle is looking for an Octavia Elegance and up here in Glasgow have seen a dealer with a few of these with registrations starting AE56.

There are also some at other dealers throughout the country. Anyone any idea where "AE" is and if there is any obvious link to Skoda Octavias? They are all 14-17k mileage so outwith normal "rental" territory and also higher mileage than normal for them to be Skoda Head Office cars? Read more

grumpyscot

I work opposite a taxi office - there are 16 taxi's in the car car park at the moment - 15 Octavias and 1 Peugeot. Every Skoda has an AExx plate - and I'm in Edinburgh!

Of half a dozen other Octavias in the estate that I know of, at least 4 others also have AExx plates.

Obviously sold direct from Skoda HQ.

Do I need to buy adapters etc., or is it just a straight 'plug and play' adaptation?

yesterday i was hit by an uninsured driver. He has assured me he will pay for the damage to my car, I wasnt going to inform my insurance company of the accident because ive only got 3rd party myself and dont really want any accidents registered against my insurance history, but it turns out my passenger has whiplash and cant work, could my insurance do anything to help me or should my passenger just try one of them no win no fee solicitors. Any suggestions? Read more

Provided you inform the other party, then yes, record away.

To do the rear pads and discs on my Fabia, I need a caliper rewind tool I believe.

Are these model specific or will I be able to use the one my friend bought to do his Scenic with? Read more

The pegged cubes don't work properly and are apt to damage the dust boots on the pistons.

The proper rewind tool is available for around GBP16 from GSF and should be used. It's important that the thread pitch of the rewinding tool matches the pitch of the thread on the handbrake actuating push rod within the caliper. If this is not the case, either the tool becomes threadbound or else it falls out. Wind the piston in so that the new pads will just slide into the caliper rather than being a loose fit - otherwise the handbrake auto adjuster will take some time to reset itself.
