Found this info while searching vauxhallownersnetwork.co.uk

"All Vectra B interiors are interchangeable - i.e. hatch, saloon, estate.

The only difference is the front seat belt mounting points are slighlty different between facelift and prefacelift."

I have seen the question raised in a previous thread about whether SPECS cameras can read number plates at night and the answer was yes - by infra red. I was intrigued by the number of cars passing me last night in the (in)famous M1 roadworks between Luton and the M25 - I was doing a constant 50 but lost count of the cars (and lorries) passing me, and not just creeping past at 51 but hurtling past. Are they all anticipating SPECS doesn't work at night or will they be receiving brown envelopes? Read more

I've just read the following article from the BBC:

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7277580.stm

For those who are always complaining that green issues are used as an excuse for extra taxes, you may be surprised to hear that green taxes have in fact declined.

"The committee of 16 MPs said green taxes, as a proportion of all taxes, has declined from its peak of 9.7% in 1999 to 7.6% in 2006."

Motoring is an easy and ligit target for additional taxes, I expect we will see the cost of motoring rise by a considerable amount over the next few years due to extra taxes and the cost of oil.

I would also expect the prices of second hand 4x4s and SUVs to plummet over the next few years and for new ones to be priced off the roads.

I'm afraid that article is Bull excrement.

A Green Tax should be defined as a Tax whose proceeds are used to improve the environment.

There are no such taxes cos the proceeds are frittered away on MP's expenses, wars and other high priority items.

Ergo it is as usual another load of misleading twaddle from people who set out to mislead us.

Hi

Ive been given a courtesy car to use while my car is in for repairs, I noticed last night that there is no tax disc on the car, would I be liable for any fine if I was stopped by the police?

Refuse to drive this courtesy car, phone the garage and insist they collect the car immediately. Hire a car from now until a properly taxed courtesy car is made available to you and present the garage with the bill. Sue for cost in small claims if they refuse to stump up.
In the current "climate", with ANPR, CCTV and Big Brother breathing right down everyone's necks, the likelihood of being cautioned, arrested, fingerprinted, whatever, as a possible "terrorist suspect" if the car you drive comes under the slightest suspicion... I'd run a mile from any slightly "dodgy" car!

We had a visit from the esteemed Gordon Brown MP, Jacqui Smith MP and Liam Byrne MP last Friday.

Saw GB later on the news being interviewed on the train (presumably on his way back to London).

So why were there so many ministerial Jaguars when he called in at our office? I guess he needed them to travel the mile from the station to our office.

And these are the people who tell us we should reduce car use and CO2 emissions! Read more

The charging light has come on permanently and all charge has now gone from the battery.
Had the alternator replaced within last 2 months and wondered if this is the fault?
Last week the charging light was on intermittently but the problem miraculously cleared.

Any one had similar experience or can offer advise?

Its now back in the garage waiting on an electrician to diagnose the problem?

Thanks for any help

Its definately for sale as I drove one today but no insurance company lists it, either as a commercial nor a car - yet they do list the Daihatsu Hijet ( essentially the same vehicle ) which Piaggio used to make for Daihatsu, as a current car, but they havent sold the Hijet for some years now - so I can get a quote for a 2008 Hijet, which doesnt exist but not a 2008 Porter which does - I cant insure it as a Daihatsu as thats not what it is - what to do? How can this be resolved?

Any clues appreciated! Read more

stunorthants26

Many Thanks for your replies, all helpful. The issue appears to be that nobody told half the insurers that Daihatsu stopped selling the Hijet and while you can get a quote for the Hijet on a car insuramce website, the Piaggio, despite being to ann purposes the same vehicle, is considered a commercial - very odd indeed since it is sold as a family style vehicle!
