Hi
Ive been given a courtesy car to use while my car is in for repairs, I noticed last night that there is no tax disc on the car, would I be liable for any fine if I was stopped by the police?

Yes-Failure to display-you would likely only get a warning but YOU are responsible.

if it's not taxed, then what else is not attended to? MoT, insurance?

The courtesy car is a 2006 so at least it (should be) roadworthy.
I spoke to the garage who couldnt tell me if the car was taxed or not but I would be covered under their insurance but im in 2 minds whether I should just take it back to them and ask for a legal car. Ridiculous situation!!!

Contact the repair centre, they may take it out when the car's not in use to prevent theft whilst it's parked up.

Goto www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/
Click on "Vehicle enquiry" fill in the relevant boxes and see when the Date of Liability is due. This date is when the RFL should be renewed by. In other words if the date showed is 01 03 2009, then the RFL runs out on the 28th Feb 2009.

Refuse to drive this courtesy car, phone the garage and insist they collect the car immediately. Hire a car from now until a properly taxed courtesy car is made available to you and present the garage with the bill. Sue for cost in small claims if they refuse to stump up.
In the current "climate", with ANPR, CCTV and Big Brother breathing right down everyone's necks, the likelihood of being cautioned, arrested, fingerprinted, whatever, as a possible "terrorist suspect" if the car you drive comes under the slightest suspicion... I'd run a mile from any slightly "dodgy" car!
