Actually I agree with ALL of you - I was just being the Devil's Advocate. There is a huge need for properly armoured vehicles elsewhere within the Government's areas of interest!

i'm going to be awkward, sorry chaps....if i was PM i'd have a chauffeured Jag, no problem whatsoever...head honcho of no.4 (ish) wealthiest nation in the world, why not? there has to be some perks to being the boss and the long hours and stress/strain of that office ... and no i'm not a fan of the present incumbent.
p.s British built car, why not sell it as desirable by having the main man drive around in it.

Am I mistaken or is it not the case he can't drive? (too mean to have ever paid for lessons and test?)

I'm with Westpig. After all he is the PM and should be treated differently to the rest of us.
While we all have equal rights, we are not all equal.
And, just like WP and many others, I'm not his number one fan either...
|
You don't have to be a fan to realise that a) Ministers need cars and chauffeurs and b) Ministers need security given the number of barmpots at large. It is absurd to carp about this sort of thing.
|
If he needs the car then use the car - why occupy space on the train as well and prevent others from using it, no doubt there was an entire carriage reserved and we are told that trains are overcrowded!
|
Probably because they are so far removed from the real world they dont understand it!
A spell of confined public transport would be a good reminder for them to understand their electors problems!
|
I'm not a Labour voter, but our PM grew up in the constituency he represents. He knows them, they know him. He does understand.

But he doesn't represent them Marilyn Livingstone does

In my younger days we freely accepted being told by our elders/superiors "Don't do as I do, do as I say." I think we were much happier then, when we didn't feel the need to question the actions of all and sundry.

Not as bad as the hypocrisy of 10,000 (or was it 15,000?) "Global Warming" delegates going to Bali to dicuss what they were going to put on the agenda of the next "Global warming" meeting.
Wonder what attracted them to fly half way round the world to that tropical island paradise?
"The U.N. estimates 47,000 tons of carbon dioxide and other pollutants will be pumped into the atmosphere during the 12-day conference in Bali, mostly from plane flights but also from waste and electricity used by hotel air conditioners.
If correct, Goodall said, that is equivalent to what a Western city of 1.5 million people, such as Marseilles, France, would emit in a day.
But he believes the real figure will be twice that, more like 100,000 tons, close to what the African country of Chad churns out in a year.
Organizers said they are doing everything possible to offset the effects."

Don\'t know why GB can\'t simply use a helicopter to go everywhere - if it\'s good enough for Prince Andrew to use all the time just to nip down to the local golf course, then it should be good enough for GB.
But surely the Jags would have had to motor up from London while he went by train - so where was the saving?
No wonder he was crap at being Chancellor of the Exchequer
|
Speaking as a retired pilot I know that helicopters are way more expensive to operate than a car, over a given distance, and are much more subject to the vagaries of the English weather especially during the Winter. If GB tried to use a helicopter he often wouldn\'t get to or from wherever he was meant to. AAAAH! There\'s a bonus! Bring on the helicopter!
|
Here I am old sanitary ware chap......
AS speaks the truth - Helicopters are pretty damn expensive to run.
The average rate for one of my company helicopters for oil business passengers and freight ( a Bell 414 or 412 ) is around £3000 an hour so just a tad more expensive than a ministerial limo. They come in at £3 million or so each to buy.
We also run an executive S92 solely for a middle eastern potentate which cost him around $26 million so at that rate GB\'s ministerial Jaguar comes quite cheap.....
|
But he doesn\'t represent them Marilyn Livingstone does
Jonathan, for the sake of accuracy, and the benefit of those who have never had to figure out how or why Scotland has two Parliaments, Marilyn Livingstone is the Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the constituency, but Gordon Brown is the MP, and, although Prime Minister, is still the elected representative at Westminster for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath. He is still accessible to his constituents.
|
Drivewell
I agree that he is accessible, but for almost any issue his constituents may want to discuss they are better off speaking to Marilyn than GB unless they have concerns over Defence, National Taxation or Europe. For almost every other issue that is likely to affect them, then GB would be no help at all.
