2005 1.9tdi Caliper rewind tool - model specific? - BobbyG
To do the rear pads and discs on my Fabia, I need a caliper rewind tool I believe.

Are these model specific or will I be able to use the one my friend bought to do his Scenic with?

Which will knacker a caliper where the piston has to be rotated back in and not just pushed.

Draper, Sykes Pickavant and others do 'wind back cubes'. £6-8, you put a 3/8" extension in, and rotate and push. Each cube face has a different set of pegs which match the indents that you find on rear caliper pistons.

The pegged cubes don't work properly and are apt to damage the dust boots on the pistons.

The proper rewind tool is available for around GBP16 from GSF and should be used. It's important that the thread pitch of the rewinding tool matches the pitch of the thread on the handbrake actuating push rod within the caliper. If this is not the case, either the tool becomes threadbound or else it falls out. Wind the piston in so that the new pads will just slide into the caliper rather than being a loose fit - otherwise the handbrake auto adjuster will take some time to reset itself.
