The PAS fluid on the Volvo could do with a top up and I have a 2 month old container of Halfords "Ford Automatic Transmission and Power Steering Fluid to Ford spec ESP-M2C-166H which I bought for the Mondeo and used about 200ml of.
Can I use this stuff, or are these fluids really manufacturer specific? The Volvo's handbook is no help - it says use "genuine Volvo power steering fluid". Which of course is marketing spiel rather than any technical requirement.
What spec is needed for the car, and is this Ford stuff OK to use? I always thought PAS fluid and ATF were all the same.
Cheers

Just got some from GSF. £5.80 plus VAT. Watery green stuff in what looks like a glorified washing up liquid bottle.
Anyway, it's in and job done. Only took about 100ml
Thanks again

I believe the question of what to do about faded black plastic bumpers has come up several times in the past - and I reckon my neighbour may have come up with the solution.
Last summer, Steve sprayed the black plastic bits on his daughter's Corsa with Eastwood 'Under Hood Black' (obtained from frost.co.uk) after first carefully masking them off.
This could best be described as an experiment because I suspect that there is not a specific manufacturer's recommendation for this use.
Anyway, nine months later, I was out there this afternoon admiring the finish - which looks just as good now as on the day he applied it. He tells me that previous attempts at the job with a variety of other products have lasted a matter of a few weeks.
There are several warnings on the can about the flammability/toxicity etc of the product and I hope that no recent changes have been made which could affect performance.
If I can get my act together, I'll have a go at my son's Corsa when the weather improves. Read more
forget all the stuff at halfords or any place which sells miracle stuff you wipe on and think your grey bumpers are going to stay black again, its just a complete waste of money. However there are things that you can use for your sons corsa, the first using a heat gun, this is quite easy to do however you will not get a perfect finish the heat causes the plastic to change and although it will improve it is not perfect, although with corsas the spats can be white and look quite bad!
A second way is to use "forever black" its expensive at £9.99 for a tiny amount, elite car care is a good source. This stuff is basically a black dye and has been made especially for faded bumpers. It has an applicator on the end of the bottle and all you do is slap it on. Mask up any paint work though as its stubborn stuff! This stuff really does work, its from the USA ive not seen it in any shops although ebay sells it and its easy to find off the net.
This stuff lasts for a long time, unlike paint it will not flake it will last through car washes and will look the business!
Speed limits of just 15 miles-per-hour are to be introduced on major roads in planned new towns across the country as part of an effort to reduce global warming.

Since manufacturing a ton of concrete generates a ton of CO2, how can the Government justify building ANY new towns, whilst taxing motorists out of their cars to save CO2?
15mph speed limits as a means of saving the planet from climate change seems stupid in comparison.
Besides which, digging up plants and trees to build houses also reduces the ability of the environment to absorb CO2.
Sounds like Mickey Mouse policy to me.
What do people think of using biodiesel in their tank, I have the oil from my local chip shop but are in two minds whether to use it. I will refine it and cook it up with methanol and check levels of pH so that it isn't harmful to the fuel pipes.
But does it really work?!
Any ideas?????? Read more
I know this is a really old post, but i thought I may be able to enlighten anyone else who is reading this.
To start with, you have a chippy, which oil do you use?...
Hi my ford has been left for a while, and now won't start. I have changed the battery and have the starter motor looked at and reconditioned, but none of that has worked.
Does anyone know if there is anything else I can try??? Read more
Does the engine turn at all? Is the new battery also flat? Are any of the battery cable terminals getting warm.

How do I reset it?

You don't re-set it; [that's one of those morons' buzz-words] you fix the fault - then it goes out on it's own.
Clean the yellow-sheathed two-pin pre-tensioner plugs under the front seats with electrical contact cleaner - after disconnecting the battery. That sorts about 85% of them.
I have a 1994 E320 Coupe which has developed a strange problem when using the cruise control. Basically, when driving at a speed around 120km/h, the car appears to "jerk" continually, instead of running at smoothly at the required speed. The effect is similar to someone pushing the accelerator then taking their foot off continually. It's particularly evident when going up hill, and less evident at higher speeds. It's not a big problem to be honest and I don't expect a 14 year old car, even a low mileage W124, to be perfect. I'm wondering if it's one of those "oh just clean electrical connector XYZ and it'll go away" problems, whether it's endemic to the car or whether it's a precursor to something more more serious/ expensive going wrong. Anyone here come across this?
The car is a 5 speed automatic by the way and has the drive-by-wire throttle pedal.
I've checked some of the many thousands of MB forums which basically seem to go in the direction of swapping out various expensive ECUs to see if the problem goes away. I'm guessing if I take the car to a MB dealer they will probably adopt the same strategy.
{yes, you guessed it, another edit to put the year in the subject line. That reminds me, must put up some 'sticky' posts asking people to do this to cut down on the amount of editing we do} Read more

Help with route, please.
My son wants to look at Aberystwyth Uni but I haven't been to Wales for over 20 years. The AA and Tom Tom say it's a 4hrs 45 mins trip. My main concerns are the A 470 and A 487; is one able to bat along at 60, or are bends, villages and tractors a factor? Roadworks? Any locals able to give me an idea of what to expect? We will be travelling on a Saturday.
While I'm here, I award another metaphorical poke in the eye to the genius who decided that traffic information for this island should be handled by the 3 separate governing authorities, England, Scotland and Wales. You wouldn't think this was the UK. Perhaps we'll have Traffic Norfolk and Traffic Cornwall on separate web sites next.
As usual TIA.

>EDIT: And the standard return fare is nearly £100.
If you buy ahead of time it can be significantly cheaper. I bought a single to London Paddington from Carmarthen recently for 41 quid and that was for FIRST class - forget the exact saving but it was a small fraction of buying on the day. But yeah, if dad will take son, why not? That particular line isn't exactly blessed with trains.

Happy Easter to all.
Could I please ask if anyone recognizes the manufacture/distributor name " ANEL " in relation to electronic components or small digital readout units, such as rev counters, temp guages, oil pressure guages etc, etc?
I have done the usual searches on the net and the nearest I have come up with, is an industrial electrical contracting concern in Turkey.
If anyone has heard of or knows of this manufacturer, I would welcome any information that could be supplied.
Many thanks. Read more
