"Passengers are having to change bus partway through their journeys to comply with an EU directive.

The legislation stops drivers clocking up more than 31 miles behind the wheel without a rest.

If a journey is any longer, the driver must pull over and wait for a replacement. "

The problem in this case is the bus companies refuse to fit tachographs because of the expense.

Coaches all have them, hence they have no problem.

I'm no supporter of the EU but there are plenty of valid reasons to have a go at it, this is not one of them!

Look on www.valeoservice.com/html/unitedkingdom/en/ click web catalogue.

I had the solid flywheel conversion fitted to my Citroen C5. Amazing is all I can say. Why do they still use DMF's? As Valeo manufacture half the car already, please Mr Citroen, give them the clutch too!

I bought a 56 plate Peugeot 207 last October. Since buying it I had to replace the side panel (someone drove into me) and am now having to deal with further repairs due to a 4 wheel drive vehicle driving into the 207 whilst parked. I imagine the car will look absolutely fine after a trip to a body shop. Anyway, I've since decided that I want rid of the vehicle.....Do you think I'll have trouble selling it? I want to exchange it for a Suzuki Swift. What's the best way of doing so and how much do you reckon I'll get for it?

It's a 16v S 90 A/C 56 plate.

Thanks

Glass Guide Bottom Book for your car is £6725 as a 3 Door or £6950 as a 5 Door assuming no more than 18000 miles and in a decent colour.

However no Peugeot is a "book" car so average main dealer would SIV it about £400 behind book assuming they dont spot any reapirs.

As a PX against a new Swift your possibly looking at about £6800 to £7200 assuming its a 5door ( IMHO )

The easy way to ged rid is to PX it.

Selling private is the hardest way but you will get more for it circa low 7's if a 5 door.

I would personally stick a for sale sign in rear window with your mobile number then go to local Suzuki dealer and haggle as you have no PX once you sell it ..

hope this helps

I wonder what the world's cheapest car maker will do with these if Ford couldn't make Jaguar profitable? Read more

But not as funny.

I have an old shape megane (2002) which has developed a problem with the steering.

When the car is cold, the steering is stiff (very heavy). Once the wheel is turned, it clicks and the steering feels fine, except for this click which is still present. I can feel the click on either direction of turning and if probably at around 130 degrees of turning.

Once the car is warmed, the click is gone and there is no noticable problem.

The initial stiffness is far worse in cold weather, and even feels as if the fluid is frozen.

A friend said it sounds like either the bearing or the pump needs replacing.

Any advice appreciated Read more

What with reading so many episodes of dealers dodging warranty claims, I was heartned by the superb treatment from my local Suzuki dealer.

I had been hearing what I can only describe as a 'hiss' from the back axle when the engine was under load in higher gears. You could hardly hear it when it was full of things but empty, it was certainly there. Bearing in mind that the 3 year warranty runs out December, I thought I would pop into my dealer and just get it checked, fully expecting to be told 'theyre all like that' or something to that effect.

The manager took it out for a drive and then spent 15 mins with it on a ramp checking the fluid and checking anything else that could have been making the noise.
He said normally you would look to the tyres and wheel bearings but they were perfect and it must be coming from the back axle somewhere and was happy to confirm that it was certainly not normal and that he would like to have it in for three days so they can strip it down and see whats causing it, replacing whatever was required.

What so impressed me was that despite it being neither a serious sounding noise nor any insistance on my part that it was definately a problem, they took it completely serious, made a complete assessment of the noise and at no point did I feel that they wanted to do anything but make sure my van was totally 'right'.
Really made me smile that there are still customer focussed dealers out there who take even the most seemingly minor noise seriously. Read more

Following on. They rebuilt the rear axle with new bearings but it came back far noiser than it went in - not good at all and after two days with the new noiser back end ( it now sounds similar to driving with the brakes on slightly, plus its gained some whine aswell ), I went back in and said sorry but I cant accept it as it is.

Much to my suprise, without any hesitation, he went straight to the diary and said they would need the van for a week, so they have time to test it and rebuild it, more than once if needs be. Loan car was a given, nice that I didnt have to ask and not a hint even that I was a fussy moaner.

Heres hoping they manage to sort it out. I get the impression that its not a normal problem and as such, they are going blind ( manager said he would get onto 'technical' see if they have any suggestions ).
Still very happy with them though as atleast they are willing and trying to help.

Really need to know if it's an X16SZR or an XEL; but 12-15 bar is pretty ballpark.

I am looking for a suitable child booster seat with the deepest possible cushion to combat the car sickness bought on by the high, upwards sloping rear door shoulder/ window line of our car (5 series Touring). The current seat worked quite well in our V70 (with a nice flat window line and light interior) but not so well in the new car, exacerbated by a dark interior.

All the boosters I have looked at seem to have relatively shallow cushions, quite unsuited to providing a good view out the window for a 5 year old when latest generation car design tend to decrease visibility and a feeling of "openess" the further back in the car you go. And the seat doesn't settle very well when used in the centre rear seat position to try and provide better visibility, especially round corners!

Any recommendations gratefully received (there is an ISOFIX facility too on the rear outer seats) for something that provides a good deep cushion base . It seems to be something the manufacturers have overlooked from what have seen and other folks have said the same. Read more

2004 Focus has a knock from the rear suspension, that sounds like the exhaust hitting something, exhaust has been checked several times but noise still there- appear to be suspension related. Only happens over bumps.

Any ideas

Check out your Anti Roll bar drop links, They wear just as quick as the front ones and can cause quite a noise.
