As the discs are only a tenner then the pads can't be very expensive. Always
best to fit new pads when fitting new discs

thanks DD , i think i will take your advice and fit both, pad and disc kits on ebay for £13.00 ish..... cheers

Hi, I noticed a couple of days ago when my fiesta is warm (doesnt seem 2 make the noise when its cold) there is a quiet whistly type noise coming from what i presume is around the cambelt type area. The car is still driving fine and when im driving it i cant hear it - more than likely because the sound of the engine drowns it out but i do know the sound wasnt there before so im a little worried.

I had it fully serviced about a month ago and its due for MOT in march but basically I was wondering if anyone thatknows a lil more about cars might be able to hint as to whats causing the sound. As i said it isnt loud but I know it wasn't there before so i don't want to keep driving it if its going to do serious damage.

If you need more details il try to provide them as best as i can.

Thanks in advance, Matt. Read more

Sounds like a dampner problem on the Fanbelt (but hopefully, not the cambelt)...or a loose pulley. When was the last time you had either of these changed?

The tailgate release mechanism has stopped working and the tailgate cannot be opened at all! After several intermitant failures the tailgate release has stopped working all together. The micro switch clicks when pressed but nothing else happens!

Q1. Is there any way of opening the tailgate from the inside. From inside the boot I can see a small in the catch itself that appears to give access to the inside, how does this work?

Q2. Does anyone know of a likely fault? The Haynes manual says nothing about the lock itself and directs your to local Peogeot dealers for Central Locking Faults - really helpful! Read more

Hi,

Got same problem on 307 sw 2006. It works some time, other times not.
If doesnt work in the morning, when I come out of work it then opens ok..weird!
Did you ever get to the bottom of this one?

cheers

Opened up my 2002 Ka this morning to change a headlight bulb (pig of a job, do they think we all have the hands of an elf?) and noticed a bit of oil on top of the rocker cover, or rather around the bolts that are holding it down. Is this anything to worry about? It's going in for an oil change and service next week (MOT the week after) so any problems can be sorted out then.

Thanks in advance :) Read more

Just thought I'd update - turned out rocker cover gasket needs replacing - £6. And a good deal on a pair of kumho tyres as well. Best service ever! ;-)

I see the Archbishop of Canterbury has caused a fuss by suggesting the introduction of Sharan Laws into the British legal system. Would this be applied to all VW drivers and is it likely to be extended to drivers of Ford Galaxies?

I wonder what the punishment would be for a dodgy headlight ;-) Read more

Hey. I need some advice regarding a first time buyer for a motorcar.
I am a student studying full-time. However, I do not recieve this "EMA" which I think is a joke so my money will be even more stretched. I feel bad asking my parents for £10 a week to cover lunch and money aside for books etc.

Anyway, I am currently learning to drive and I will need to acquire some transportation. I have been asking around at College for which they think in their opinion they render the most reliable car. However, some suggestions are that a Vauxhall Corsa 1200c.c. Diesel is in order.

I ask what do you suggest and how to proceed further.
My father has suggested to start with "an old banger"; but in my opinion I think it will be long-term more efficient if I can buy a half-decent car so I don't need to spend a lot of money on repairs etc.

I was hoping not to go above £2,000 - is this a reasonable amount?
My life savings consist of less than four times that but I would like to put it towards other things. Perhaps make more money from that one day.

Thank you for any suggestions. Read more

Do you really need a car? There are very few universities in the UK which I would consider it a necessity to own one. In a lot of cases, it's positively discouraged, with extortionate campus parking fees etc. I certainly would think twice about spending my life savings on what, in a lot of cases, is a luxury. Don't forget, you'll already be faced with a significant debt on leaving university, so is it really worth adding to it now?
