I know that this is a motoring forum, but ex motorcyclist have been known to contribute?
Has anyone come across the story of the Japanese young man riding with his mates when he hit the traffic barrier a glancing blow. He rode on although the pain in his leg was excruciating. He was probably embarrassed and didn?t want to lose face before his mates. It was only when he stopped at the next junction that he realised that he had severed his leg from the knee down. Probably fell off the bike when he tried to put his foot down. The leg was too badly damaged to re-attach.

Hi I have a Toyota Carina 1992 it?s a 2.0 L petrol engine and it?s Automatic. The Car has a small problem the car starts and drive all right but when you go on the Motorway or a high way it doesn?t pull all right, the engine revs up. but I can see the engine struggles to pull in the motorway and it consumes lot of petrol. I recently changes the Oil filter, Spark plugs, Air filter. can some body give me some advice please

I can't remember if the 2.0ltr had the variable inlet manifold like the 1600. If it has, then the solenoid or the actuator may be stuck.

Hi there
I have been having some problems with my car lately. December I had problems with the engine coils so i got all these replaced (full 58000mile service too - even though car done only 49000miles). Then this month I had rear shockers replaced and also a new brake servo fitted.
All parts were new parts and work carried out by Renault dealer.
But now when I drive my car and get to where I am going there is a slight burning smell when I get out of the car. A friend said it could be the clutch????
What I wanted to know is could any of the recent work done to the car be causing this smell or is it more likely my friend is correct???
Thanks for the help!

Could be a binding brake; feel the wheel hub temperature and have a sniff of each wheel.
[This may lead to colleagues thinking that you're cracking up; but....]
With the credit crunch starting to bite. Do backroomers think that in the next 6 to 12 months there are going to be some excellent deals out there?

But won't some of us be up the creek without the paddle in the thorny skeletal canoe along with everyone else led from the top of course?
Heavens I do hope not.
First off I know next to nothing about cars which is why I guess I've come here.
Over the past few weeks I've been smelling a buring oil sound from my heaters which has been coming and going. A few days ago smoke was coming from the bonnet so I took it to my local garage. I've been told that the head gasket is probably going to need replacing... and I've been quoted £500 at least for the job.
Now obviously the cars getting on but its only got 60k on the clock and I'm loath to get rid of it right now. Money is a big reason but also the time and effort to find another motor. I also only had the cam belt replaced a few months ago... :(
I'd really appreciate peoples opinions here on whether they think it's worth getting this done? Not just in the short term but in the long term too. How many more miles would I be looking at after I'd got a new HG? Are there any tests I could get done on the car to find out if there are any more 'major' problems with it before I commit to splashing further cash on it?
Basically what sort of questions should I be asking myself and the garage too?
Any advice greatly appreciated. Read more
It's risky; a weekly under-bonnet check can spot something unusual before it becomes damaging.
If you lose water and miss the brief upswing of the gauge - it's game over.
I have a 1992 Honda Prelude 2.0l and i feel it uses too much fuel. For £10 of fuel i get an average of 35 miles while driving about city centre. It also seems to lack power a little. Anyone any ideas if this is normal. If not any ideas how this could be solved? Could it be the ignition timing? Thanks Read more

Not necessarily. [There were so few occasions when anything went wrong with these, that I can't say that I've ever tried it.]
Any particular reasons why I shouldn't buy one? 53 plate, 10k miles.
Cheers

I agree with Nickdm. EuroNCAP gives it 3 stars, or 3 with one crossed through depending on which model you look at:

As regulars will know, I am a statistical anomaly. I have a Honda Accord Tourer that has been nothing but trouble.
In the 25 months I've had it, it's been off the road in the dealer's for just over 7 weeks so far, with both electrical and engine faults. It's ruined one holiday, made another very difficult, left me by the side of the road four times, and caused me work related problems when I've not had an appropriate vehicle for my own company's work.
I'm sick of it, and don't regard this as acceptable any more. I don't want the car back, and I'm wondering what my options are, given it's 25 months and 60k miles old. Do I have any?
All thoughts appreciated. Read more
Thanks to all for your input. I'm going to talk to legal advisors, but frankly I think I'm on a hiding to nothing. I'm going to try and get mine back working, and then concentrate on the extended warranty or enhanced trade-in routes.
Given that Honda already gave me an extended warranty on the (unrelated) electrical issues I had, maybe that is the best option? I might even end up with the entire car covered by the longest warranty in Honda history :-).
Can anyone tell me would an engine from a turbo diesel 1995 passat fit a diesel 1998 Caravelle/ Transporter?
Thanks

By head lamp I do not mean one on the front of your car but one for the front of your head (a la miners). They were mentioned in an earlier post as a way of freeing off your second hand at night. It seemed like a good idea to carry one in the boot. I asked in a few DIY shops with no joy so tried a few 'outdoor shops' today. Two shops had them but at an asking price of over £30 - a bit much to leave lying around in the boot. There were 'all singing, all dancing' - variable output, intermittent mode, etc. I was budgeting on £5/10. Anyone know where I can get one? Thankyou. Read more
I bought one from Aldi, it was £6. The problem is that Aldi only have things like that in for a short time until they sell out. I wish I'd bought 2 now, and kept one in the car, because I find it indispensable.
I used mine when I was building a new PC. Very useful to illuminate the dark corners when you're trying to put the thing together.
It might have been an urban myth to some but they looked remarkable like middle fingers to me, even down to the neatly trimmed nails.
