I have a 1995 ford fiesta 1.8 diesel (non turbo). Engine equipped with a cav rotodiesel injection pump AND power steering. The engine is in terminal decline, and I have bought a second hand unit which is equipped with a bosch pump and WITHOUT power steering. The original cav unit has the extra pully for the power steering mounted on the front of the injection pump drive belt pulley using 3 pre-drilled and tapped holes. The pulley on the bosch pump does not have these holes. Can I just change the injection pump pulleys? (i.e. are the shaft sizes on the two pumps identical?). Could I have the pulley from the Bosch pump driiled and tapped to take the steering pump pulley? or am I better off changing the pumps over, presumably including the injectors and filter units? Is there anything else to consider if changing the complete fuel system from one engine to the other? All quite urgent now as I have a dismantled car and two engines blocking my drive! and my girlfriend needs her car back on the road!!
Any help gratefully recieved. Cheers Tim

I will be driving from Hamburg to Malmo soon and I'm undecided whether to take the ferry from Puttgarden over to Rodby or go the long way round. As far as I can tell the ferry will cost about £85 so it looks like that is the expensive option. Also It looks like there is a bridge from Copenhagen to Malmo. Presumably this is a toll bridge. Do any backroomers have experience/advice for this route?

I did the Puttgarden to Rodbyhavn ferry long before the Great Belt and Oresund were bridged, you can stop at Lubeck on the way to Puttgarden, a beautiful city. Why not do both, Puttgarden on the way there, the new bridges on the return.
Otherwise if you want to see Denmark and do Copenhagen on the way then taking the Ferry from Falkenberg (Sweden) to Grena (Denmark) on the return enables a good bit of mainland Denmark to be seen.
Had a recorded delivery letter the other day urgently requesting me to take my 52 reg Megane to a Renault dealer ASAP due to "a possible issue with the brake pedal operation... which may affect your safety". I've had recall notices before but not one sounding quite this dramatic. Anybody got any insider knowledge about it? Read more

Not sure it will be - they have the Acura RDX (as well as the CRV) and that looks loads better.
Hello,
I'm going to look at a 1984 190 mercedes, 2.0 petrol engine with 125K on the clock. I would appreciate any tips or pointers on things to look out for before buying. The timing chain was changed at 95K so I feel comfortable about that, if anyone is familiar with these cars or has advice it would be much valued. Thanks. Read more
There was a long tailback late afternoon on the Attleborough A11 (Norfolk) by-pass. It looked as though 6,7 or 8 cars were involved in the accident/accidents - police were there, ambulances, fire engines arriving and the air ambulance flying in. It looked like a scene from the middle east.
But why? It was a 40mph stretch of road due to the roadworks, so folks shouldn't have been speeding; there was no fog, smog, rain - it was a nice sunshiny afternoon. There are some looooony drivers out there! Read more
By the way the vehicles were dispersed, I suspect that part of the melee could have been caused by rubberneckin' and drivers not leaving enough space from the car in front.
Anyone heard of this before??
I have an 02 Xsara 2.0 Hdi with just over 105K on the clock.
Passed MoT two days ago.
Yesterday, (day after MOT!) driving down the motorway at 2500 rpm. speedo read 100 mph.
When I got to work, it settled back, at rest showing 30mph.
I found that if I turned the ignition on, and then off again, just after turning it off, the would be a little 'click' , all the gauges would jump a little, and the speedo dropped down by about 4 mph.
So I turned the ignition on and off, till it clicked back to zero again
Drove home, no problem.
Back to work this morning and I could see the speed indication 'ticking' up a few mph at a time.
100, 120, 130, 140, past the 140 right on round till the needle was pointing more or less straight down. About 185 at a guess.
Got to work, and as I slowed down, the speed indicated dropped back by about the right amount to settle at 140.
A few minutes of ignition on-off, and it was back to zero again.
As far as I can tell, rev counter all other gauges, and odometer are all working fine.
It seems as though the thing is continually ticking zero further and further round the dial
Went on a short drive lunchtime, -- no problem at all..
Any ideas what is going on here???
Thanks Read more
I would have a look & see if the speedo needle has come lose from its small metal shaft.
You would need to unclip the clear plastic to check, A drop of superglue fixes this fault.
Seen a few 206s with this fault, Worth a look anyway.
If you go the second hand set of clocks route, After matching part numbers get a set with a LOWER reading then the ones fitted to your car now.
On the PSA stuff thats multiplexed ( Like this Xsara is ) the mileage reading is stored in the ECU, BSI unit & the speedo.
But the speedo will always display whichever reading is highest out the 3!
You will also notice if you unplug the instruments that the rest of dash will light up like an xmas tree, Dont worry its ment to do that.
Once the instruments are plugged back in the lights will go out.
Its down to the CAN system looking for the instruments & not being able to find them ( because they have been unplugged ) so it lights up the dash to show theres a fault with the CAN system.
Hi

No doubt a cutout could be done for the sidebags if necessary.

Hi, I have a 1999 Volvo S80, which is usually a very nice car however at the moment a warning notice has come on the dash saying "Urgent Air bag Fault" it also wont go over 30mph. It has an auto box which will only go in 1st and 2nd gear. If you have it in drive then it pulles away ok, then goes into 2nd but then if goes into Neutral.
Does any one know if it is a likely fault with the gear box or is it somekind of "limp home" mode, and sorting the airbag fault will fix it?
Help! as I dont want to take it to a main dealer as I am only a meer postman and it would cost a weeks wages.
All help would be gratefully recieved.
Thanks
Tim.

Not sure about the airbag fault, or if it is related to limp home mode, but petrol volvos prior to 2003 had a proble with the electronic throttle module which can sometimes put the car into limp home mode.
Advise to get to Volvo to plug in diagnostics.
Have you tried disconnecting / reconnecting the battery?

Make sure stop valve works before fitting pump if its been stood a while as i had one that was seized a few weeks back and once fitted on engine the immobilisor shield works very well.....
