Hi all,
A relative of my SWMBO has just bought a '95 punto from a second hand car dealer. Admittedly she only paid £290 for it with a short T'n'T , but it its tidy enough and seems a good buy.
Thing is, the dealer sold it to her on the basis that it "was sold as scrap" and had this written on the receipt. He basically said that because of this, "dont expect to be coming back with it" if theres any problems with it. Realistically its not a rolls royce and we have very low expectation at this price but it just seems to me that its a way of cheapy car dealers shirking responsibility.
Theres probably little profit in it for a dealer to allow for a repair if the engine goes bang tomorrow but its doesnt seem right to me.
What do you think?
Thanks,
David. Read more
... Why ever not, if the car is in fact roadworthy? ..

cos that is the law, and the law won.
rtf law.
if it is scrap, call it scrap. if it is roadworthy, sell it as that. but then at the last minute do not tell the buyer "by the way, i am going to put on the invoice/receipt that it is scrap".
got that?
Just saw 'Pulling Power' and thought they were talking some rubbish! They seemed to come to the conclusion that a Lexus 4x4 was green. They said that the car generates power while you drive it, but doesn't give out any emissions. What they didn't mention is that it uses more power than it generates. I haven't seen the specs for this car, but I doubt that it can generate power without using any. I really doubt that a 4x4 will be greener than a non-4x4, if they built a small hybrid I'm sure it will be a lot greener. I suspect that the environmental impact of building it will outweight the benefits anyway. Read more
I dont understand why 4x4's are picked on at all.
My mums Hyundai Coupe V6 averages only 22mpg and chucks out nearly as much CO2 as a Discovery, so it SHOULD be as much of a target as any 4x4. Its sure no greener.
We're thinking of selling our two cars to raise some cash.
We should get about £16-18000 for both and will then spend about £5000+ on a replacement.
Is it worth looking at older prestige cars (my preference) or going with newer middle market cars?

I've taken the liberty of copying from a Freecycle post that was e mailed to me. The car is just outside Bovey Tracey in Devon. You neve know there may be an enthusiast on this forum who could be interested.
You should be able to see the whole post if you register here: groups.yahoo.com/group/freecycle-exeter/messages. Just look for it in Messages. It was posted today.

The chassis is thought to be OK - the tyres are flat so you will need a

I would like it to go ideally to someone with a genuine interest. If it
goes this week my wife will be especially happy
Look forward to hearing from someone...... "I've deleted the mobile number out of respect for the poster

I have noticed that 3 year old reasonable mileage Mondeo TDCi's can be had for less than £5k .... which seems quite a bargain if one looks at many VW group cars of that sort - is there something wrong with the TDCi's, or is this just massive depreciation ! Read more
Peugeot own Citroen, They are one & the same car company PSA.
Hi, got my 8 month old car booked in for some bits, two of them are intermittant. Like, its all fine for maybe a week or two then the faults might appear once or twice, then could be ok for a week or so, etc...
I have given the garge as much info as I can, but I don't want them to phone me up at the end of the day to say they could'nt fine anything wrong. When they test for the fault i doubt it will "play up" but its happening enough for me to book a day off work and travel 30miles to take the car in.
So, what can I expect the garage to do? Should they start to replace likely components or could they refuse to do anything until they've seen the faults happen? They car electrical faults and we all know ho "glitchy" car electrics can be!

when i used to do general car repairs i used to "soak test" cars where customers had particularly bad manners sometimes it took days to find the fault, you had to strip them down a bit in case customers asked for them back too early.
OP be firm but polite and i am sure that your faults will be well looked for as nobody likes cars to keep coming back with an annoying bug that cant be found...........
got a 98 passat, had new discs and pads last year, changed the pads several weeks ago, copper greased the back etc and i'm still getting a squeal thats quite loud when its nearly come to a stop, any ideas please? Read more
What you do, is put a bead on as shown on the packet, then smooth over the backplate with your finger until bright orange is even, leave them 5 mins or more, and then fit without copperslip on the backplates, but you can copperslip the other parts where the pads 'hook' into the calipers.
I also use Pagid Cera Tec brake grease which is on ebay, it seems to stay greasier for longer than the copper ones.

Hello everyone,
Over the last few days I've been find the gear change quite stiff, especially on gears 3 & 4, on my '99 Ford Fiesta 1.25 LX.
Today it got worse, I really struggled to select 3rd & 4th at all. There's no crunching, it just feels like I'm locked out. I was able to limp home by pumping the the clutch until it would let me find the gear (or just leaping from 2nd to 5th when I could).
It was also giving me a few issues when slowing down to approach roundabouts and junctions, almost stalling at times, which makes me think (and hope) that it's a clutch issue, rather than gearbox.
Does anyone have some experience of this?
Many thanks in advance. Read more
sounds like 2 or more seperate faults.
I think gearchange is a selection problem more than gearbox or clutch. Perhaps linkage is loose and moving when car moving?
Engine stuttering etc is not directly related to gear faults, need more info really.
Can u start car in 3rd, with clutch depressed and then drive away. try it downhill first, you may need to slip clutch a bit to get it going. Can u then change into 4th and back to 3rd or to any other gear and then back to 3rd?

Thanks a lot guys it's the 1st time i've used this forum you've been a great help !!!!!
