The key has snapped in the ignition of my 1990 BMW 3 Series, anybody got any idea how it might be removed.
I had a quote from my local BMW dealer for £250 minimum as they may have to renew most of the steering column?
Surley there must be a more straight forward way to overcome this problem any advice greatly appreciated.

How far down has it snapped? You might be able to put some superglue on the tip of the old key and insert it into the ignition (the right way round), let the glue dry and then carefully try to extract it all in one. You could also try ringing a locksmith. They might be more willing to try to remove a broken key than just to sell you a complete new steering lock.

Hi

I have a Mitsubishi pajero 2.5ltr and my disel fuel pump has got a leak - at the bottom, rear or it. Now, I am located in Chertsey, Surrey. Any suggestions on a place to take it or is there a liquid solution that I can flush through that may fix small leaks?

Hi all,

Just wondering whether any one could recommend a good auto electrician in the Hove / Brighton area? Need one for some Polish friends who have a Renault Scenic with dual fuel, a full tank of gas, but the sensor does not allow for the gas tank to be used. They have been told (in Poland) that it needs to have an update into the software and so I'm looking for someone who could do this for them.

TIA

Thanks for all the replies. I've been speaking with my friends tonight and have think they're going to go for the main dealer option - as you say, if Renault can't fix it then there is something wrong there!!!

Hi, I need help again, I have noticed that there is a hose that has split badly so much that the water is draining very quickly from the radiator.

It is split where another pipe comes off it.

Its the one that runs under the air filter at the back of the engine. sorry do not know what it is called.

The hose has another pipe ( moulded ) coming of it , the hose is like a "T" shape.

My question is where can I purchase this type of hose from or would one from a modern day car fit.

I have been to a few places to buy this hose but have had no luck as it has another pipe coming of it .

Thankyou.

Oldam Victorbox Thankyou for your help it is aprreceated .

I will nip up to Halfords now and see if they can order it luckly vauxhall is just across the road.

The thing is I can now go and ask questions with confidence as I know nothing about cars and no matter how I try put a spanner in my hand and confusion sets in. Mechanics not my thing.

Thankyou have to say this car remains on the road down to the people who have helped in various posts when there is something wrong with the car.

This article is an American one. It's about analysing virtually every aspect of fuel efficiency in a four by four.

Interesting if you have the time to plough through it. I have no real idea whether the stats hold up - I imagine they do?

Anybody want to comment on the methodology before I go hunting for ports in my car to come to same (pretty obvious) conclusions?

All just common sense except the air conditioning one. A/C needs to be used regularly to keep the system lubricated.

Many examples of people not using it in winter and then finding it doesn't work in summer.

They regularly write to HJ saying 'should the vehicle manufacturer pay to fix this'. And his relies are usually quite terse...

Having just accepted a new job about 70 miles (M-way) from home, I'm looking to replace my Passat V6 TDi (auto, nicely appointed, goes well, but only 32 mpg overall) for something around the £9-10k mark which is exceptionally frugal on fuel (e.g. is 60mpg to much to hope for?), is reliable, won't lose too much value from clocking up maybe 400-500 miles a week, and is preferably auto. Don't really mind whether petrol or diesel, but I would have thought it would need to be the latter to maximise consumption. I want something as roomy as possible, so not a Smart or Daihatsu. Something like a Golf TDi - can these do 60mpg? Read more

How about a 75 CDT? Bargain prices, BMW motor (which can be chipped to 320d spec for c.£300) and a comfortable, serene motorway ride?

Is it a good idea to get my a/c regassed by a mobile specialist? Only the thought occurs to me that he could be anyone and have no experience, and I'd have little/no come-back on him if he doesn't have a fixed location...or am I being paranoid? Read more

I would be grateful for any suggestions on how to deal with our Seat Altea 2.0 FSi.

Since we have owned it from 1 year old it has repeatedly entered ?safe mode? when driving on the motorway. This means the car loses all power and the only solution is to coast to the hard shoulder, switch off and restart which clears the warning lights. This version of safe mode doesn't let you do 40 mph or anything near that, it maintains idle speed which is enough to ensure that brake and steering assistance is not lost.

Despite 8 visits to the dealer and many different parts replaced the car has continued to fail and we estimate that we have had to make 15 emergency hard shoulder visits in the last year.

Has anyone successfully rejected a 2 year old used car? I have little faith that the dealer is suddenly going to be able to fix the fault so I feel like there is little choice other than replace the car and let it be someone else?s problem.
