sher recently had to have new discs, pads, tyres and tracking costing around £300 and the poor girl was devastaded at having to spend that out and not being able to get a new pair of shoes or something new to wear.
so this is why i am astounded at the way she drives her car around. she takes speed humps at about 50mph, and wonders why i get mad explaining that new supension aint cheap. her car is diesel and starts it straight up with out waiting for the dash lights to go off, then wonders why it sometimes dont start first time.
when i question her on this her reply was
"the man at renault didnt tell me what to do"
i am constaly filling up her washer fluid (not leaking she just loves using it) and washing it.

are all women like this even after we try to point them in the right direction, even my sisters are like this. Read more

Unfortunately I think a lot of women are like this as most of them have no "mechanical sympathy".
When I see lady owner quoted in private adds I wonder because I wouldn,t want to buy a car from a number of women I know.

Perchance is it because they're estate agents?

Been looking for a new car as current Punto (don't laugh) is nearing the end of its commuting life for me and I'm going to pass it on to son as he is learning to drive. Want something with a bit more power but economical because am making frequent long motorway journeys.

Now I am first to admit I know next to nothing about cars. Saw this at a local dealer:-

www.abbertoncarsales.com/moredetail.asp?referrer=f...0

Its in good condition, seems to fit the profile in terms of power/fuel economy/insurance group/tax band - but doing some research seems quite a bit overpriced. I know its a dealer and you should expect to pay more but this much?
I'll be a cash buyer so do you reckon I have much haggle room here? Is this a decent car in the first place?
Definately a situation where ignorance isn't bliss!
Sorry for the complete lack of knowledge - be gentle!

Thanks for that Vansboy - its pretty important as on my long runs currently I am driving for 4 - 4 1/2 hours - too long to sit in discomfort whatever the rest of the cars like!
Please feel free to keep alternative suggestions coming. I really am too thick with regard to cars to refuse good advice.

On soliciters advice i've got to get rid of £16k worth of saving to stop the ex wife getting half of it. My mothers just bought my old Mondeo and i'm borrowing it. Question is whats the best car to by to resell in 18 Months when it's all done and dusted. The cars going to be garaged and not driven. Thinking Audi A4 Diesel or BMW equivilent. Read more

Sadly no he hasn't but i think that's more of me not asking him. She says that she's not after the savings but that'll change.Bit like she's not after 4/22nds of my pension and gratuity @ this time..

I didn't know this was a DIY job. The stuff is apparently in a clear tank, near the fuel tank, and can been seen when the car is on a ramp or lift. The fluid (EOLYS) costs £25 a litre and a full fill is 5 litres. If you are running out of EOLYS you may be coming up to the 72K miles service which is when the particle filter has to be cleaned/serviced or replaced at a price of £700. Stand by for even more expense!

Forum Audi S6
peterb

OH! MY! WORD!

Audi (bless them) invited me to a test drive day, to try three cars at a local health spa.

And they had the new Gallardo-engined S6 to play with! (414 bhp in a five-seater saloon.)

I cannot describe to you how good this engine is ? if I had the money, I?d buy one just to listen to it! The car itself is, as you?d expect, supremely competent, but as is often the case with 4WD, it?s secure rather than exciting.

After the S6, the 3.2 A4 cabrio seemed dull ? I didn?t like it as much as A4 saloons I?ve driven. Final car was the V6 TT which Mrsb wanted to try ? she loved it, and I?ve now got to persuade her we can?t afford it!

Does anyone have a spare £60k they could give me?

My favourite steering wheel was in a circa 1987 Sierra GLS. (The one with the knobbly bits sticking out) A nice meaty good looking wheel that felt good in the hand.

Worst is that awful spindly thing in the current PT Cruiser, mind you the 1982 Sierra wheel was pretty terrible too.

Have you a favourite?

I did love the wooden mountney I had in an old midget- stripey ply, looked like a mint humbug. Hated the standard wheel in a 1978 mini estate- so thin and weedy. No fun, especially in a mini.

Now, I love the leather momo in my GF's MX5 1.8iS. Perfect size and feel for lobbing round corners!

>With all due respects that is complete twaddle...:-)

These are quotations from some of your recent posts:

" Have you also used Set Program Access and Defaults from the Windows Start button (Custom)?

Windows has a neat trick of reverting the Defaults back to IE and OE if you don't keep an eye on it...:-)" July 17, 2006.

"Try typing MSCONFIG into the Run box and checking the last tab for Start Up items.

Some are probably unnecessary but will be working in the background, thus slowing up the machine." August 1, 2006.

"This will ensure that you only download the updates that are relevant for your system. Don't install Microsoft's so-called critical updates with the letters WGA or similar in the listing.

It saves an awful lot of hassle as many of us have discovered." August 2, 2006.

The list goes back and back and back. Twaddle? Just reporting it as I see it.

Recently scrapped a mk2 astra and have put my genuine vauxhall roof bars for sale on ebay. I want to find out if these items fit other cars in the vauxhall range and was wondering if there is an online resource listing part numbers. I was thinking of phoning the local vauxhall garage but their parts dept is not particularly helpful and thats on a good day! Read more

Look at some of the other listings on ebay. Appears they fit Mk2 - 4. You can check on Halfords and/or Thule websites. To cover yourself, put something like "they fitted my Mk2 but I believe they also fit xyz, but buyer should check before bidding"
