Around 1960, knew slightly a chap with a tuned Jaguar XK 120 (or perhaps 140) with a very, very loud straight-through exhaust. He claimed it could do 115 in third and that he regularly hit 100 driving down the Mall with that blaring tailpipe aimed at Buckingham Palace. No speed cameras there either, or indeed anywhere in those heavenly far-off days.

No doubt others have seen today's story about the two estate agents racing to Italy who have had their tasty motors seized by the French authorities for exceeding twice the speed limit... I usually sympathise with speeders who don't cause death or injury but in this case I don't for some reason. Something to do with their obvious idiocy perhaps.
