The German ADAC have conducted front and rear crash tests to see what happens with stick-on mobile and satnav holders, hang/strap-on dvd screens and headrest coat hanger.
The results (in German) + 3 short videos are at:

Basically, the stick on holders held fast, but in the rear-end crash, the mobile released and flew backwards through the cabin with some force.
In the frontal crash, the dvd screen swung over the headrest and clouted the passenger's head with a force that would have caused injury. The coathanger stayed in place, though could have caused injury to head and face of rear seat passenger (predicable, that one).
(Some years ago, they crash tested an estate 'on a summer holiday journey' - the front passenger with legs stretched out on the dashboard and a surfbourd lying on top of the luggage in the rear.
The passenger airbag folded the dummy like a penknife (probaly fatally in real life) and the surf board surfed its way through the car and windscreen. If anyone had been in its way...)

Hi there folks one of my very rare postings these days, hope you are all ok.
I have got the loan of a 1997 S8 for a couple of weeks with a view to buying it. It is totally kosher 120,000 miles with full history, it is coming from one of my suppliers so I know that he is being right up front with any issues with it. Today the CAT warning lamp came on and the engine started to run really rough, it then cleared again and was ok until this evening when it came on again and the engine was rough as if it was missing. I was wondering if anyone had any experience of same and what the result was, new CAT's I don't want to think about, maybe a Lamda sensor somewhere! Anyone any idea of costs of these or can think of any other issues.
Many thanks

Could it be the handbrake cable touching the ABS wiring on one or both the rear hubs?
I'm looking for a few suggestions as to what may be my problem before I pay Mr Peugeot lots of money for a diagnosis
the car a 1999 so pre HDi is hard to start, when it does it constantly hunts from around 700 to 1500 RPM as if i was stabing at the accelerator pedal, it will idle like this for a couple of minutes before the cutting out but will restart and run the same again. All the time it's running it's really rattly as though the pump timing is out, also it blows a bit of white smoke and smells of unburnt diesel from the exhaust
I've checked all electrical connections and tried an alternative no1 injector with the needle lift sensor, and checked the belt timing, now i'm lost
HELP!!
thanks

I was with somebody today who suddenley held up the Audi advert advert that appears on the first page of the Business Section of the Daily Telegraph, and commented that he thought that some readers will find it offensive.
Without ' leading the witnessess' does anybody else hold this view? (Best viewed from a distance).
I will explain later if anybody questions this.

Agree with the above. My dad's 94 2.0 is on 190k and it's still quiet and smooth. It uses about half a litre of oil in 6,000 miles. He hasn't done compression or oil pressure tests, but in terms of noise and performance it shows no signs of wear at all.
Runs on Ford Formula E 5W/30 oil changed every 6k with a genuine Motorcraft filter.
I worked at a Ford dealer in 1993-1994 when the Mondeo was new on the market. We were told that the original 2.0 Zetec unit was designed from the outset with turbocharging in mind (for a hot version of the Mondeo that never actually happened). This means the bottom end is significantly "over-specced" for a naturally aspirated engine. How true this is I don't know, but it was certainly a popular belief at the dealership.
Cheers

Can someone please help me.
Scanned the galaxy, 1996 N Reg, 2litre petrol Aspen.
Error code came back, once checked its saying 'System Too Lean (bank 1)'.
Does anyone know what can cause this problem?
Thanks

Could be Air Mass Meter underecording air flow.Try carefully cleaning the sensor wires-they look like small resistors inside the air measuring duct of the AMM.

I'd a fairly conventional folding bike with 16" ? wheels and found that the quick release levers on the handlebars, frame etc. tended to do just that on bumps.
It was also very unstable and tended to lift the front wheel going up steep hills.
Sold it to an ex colleague who lived on the smoother flatter roads of Cheshire.
I actually then tried to fit a Sinclair Zeta battery powered drive to a full sized bike. Hardly contributed any thrust, made a dreadful shrieking noise and the whole thing virtually fell of the bike after I hit a few bumps.
Sent it back for a refund the next day.
