I'm looking at buying a new car from these guy's. The price is very good.
Does anyone have any good or bad stories regarding this company ?
Thanks. Read more
Does anyone have any experience of this system? I'm looking forward to giving it a go when I have the cash to buy all the bits.
What is it capable of? Is it easy to use? Is it worth the money?
From what I've read it's more involved than most manufacturers systems. Read more
Thanks!
My much loved Impreza WRX import has to go - a change of circumstances meaning 20,000 miles a year and a recent engine rebuild (ouch!) has forced the issue...
I'm thinking that one of these modern turbo diesels which handles well may be the way to go? Budget is £9k max, preferably less because the Scooby won't be welcome as a p/ex. Comfort is very, very important as the miles are racked up on long journeys of often 600 miles in one go.
I do the occasional gig so a hatchback or estate would be the best configuration, although a big boot and split/fold rear seats may suffice.
I've driven '02 VW TDi 130 Golfs and found them to be a little mushy for handling and the power delivery will take a lot of getting used to - no arguing with the economy or resale though. I've heard the TDi 150 handles far better and has a nicer spec, but it will be a high miles example at my price level.
I've also driven an '01 BMW 330D and absolutely loved it, so a manual tourer could be the thing, although it would be high mileage within my budget.
The Mondeo tdci seems to tick most of the boxes, but there are a lot of negative reports concerning reliability and inherent faults.
Left-field choices and words of wisdom most welcome! Read more
Seat Leon TDI 130 is a cheaper Golf with sharper handling
With a new addition to the family due in 6 months it's going to be hard going financially. I'm considering getting a second job, my criteria are as follows:
Flexible working - i.e. evenings and weekends, being able to work extra/less hours at short notice
Money - doesn't have to be big bucks, just looking to top up my main income
Car - I'm happy to use my own, or buy a suitable car
The future - I'm fed up with my current job so I may switch to doing it full time
Training - happy to take AIM tests etc.
I'm considering - fast food delivery, taxi and driving instructor. Not considering anything HGV related.
If anyone here has any experiance of these jobs they can share then I would be very grateful, any other suggestions also welcomed. Read more
WHereabouts are you located Gromit? Not northwest are you?
No, west of Ireland. So my local limo service isn't the only one running a part-time driver's pool?
any body know were the damn thing is? is it easy to remove, not been changed in the 20,000mls ive had it do they require changing every 12mths?? Read more
I used to work at a Vauxhall agent, and although they were always booked on the job, they were never fitted as it took up too much of the technicians time on the service.
An article at
tinyurl.com/ox7us
has interesting views on the recent reports about 4x4 drivers and mobiles. It?s not a motoring or pro-4x4 site, by the way. It prides itself on its rational, critical approach.
The article ends:
?This is another ropey attempt at demonstrating that 4x4s are bad; that they are symbols of greed and a reckless disregard for others. In the meantime, researchers have driven an anti-4x4 juggernaut through the pages of the BMJ.?
I?d be interested to read Backroomers? views on the article.

I dont really drive one of those but I knew somebody would fall for it.LOL.
New job means need to buy a car. Have about 8k to spend, and will be doing upwards of 20k miles a year.
Had settled on a BMW 320d, which can pick up for 7.5k with 66k miles on clock. However, research has suggested various horror stories about turbo failure.
Any advice welcome.
Cheers

Cheap to run (mpg, insurance, parts etc..) and reliable. Under £1000
Supermini: Corsa, Fiesta, Micra, 106, 205, Saxo and Punto, Polo.
Small family car: Astra, Civic, Corolla, 306, Accent, Xsara, Almera, Bravo.
Which one would you go for or would recommend from one of these? Not bothered about how it looks or drives. As long as it takes me from A to B that's all it matters. Its going to be a second car so would be used only round town.I'm 28 and I've got 3 years no claims bonus so insurance won't be a bit issue for me. It would be a big plus if it comes with power steering.

Look at Seat Cordobas. Horrible looking saloon, but mechanically a VW Polo hence cheapish spares from gsf etc. Most people dont know what they are!
Prices for lateish models about £1000 less than same year Polo! You could find a 1998/9 model for less than 1000£.

Mine has fallen off and will not reglue in place, the very cheap replacements are no good they keep falling off. Can anyone recommend a suitable long lasting interior mirror. The car is a Nissan Primera 2000 model. Halfords can only offer a suction securing device.
Many thanks. Read more
............. and in that time I've accidentally smacked the interior mirror several times with my elbow while cleaning the inside of the windscreen!!

By the way, are the sellers that rich
they can afford to keep a new gearbox they don't need,
why don't they just send it back to the supplier?
I have know idea. Its ebay. Guy says its brand new and still on a pallet.

I think their prices are good but they either don't do part-exchange at all or discourage it.
