This has the most tenuous of links to motoring. I found the thing so deeply moving and in many ways a metaphor for our times that I had to post it. This could have been any one of us. The guy's response is what got me.
I could whinge on about how valuable life is and how important our friends and colleagues are.
To drag it on to topic, and nothing to do with the story, as a direct result of this I have signed up as a organ donor remember if you have a bump you may rely on a donor.
I suppose I will get moderated for this.

As this thread has strayed off topic (well, to be honest, and I quote Pugugly's comment "This has the most tenuous of links to motoring.")
this thread is locked.
DD.
It has done 230000 miles without a change in tensioner cam belt pulley. Current cam belt has done 63000 miles, same clutch and exhaust, wheel bearings and shockers and many other vital parts including gearbox have not been replaced since new. Just thought it might be of interest. Read more
And all interior electrics are working, never been touched including heater fan, windows and central locking.
Should the engine move at all when revved?

I have had a rear engine mount changed on this car a few months ago, could another be worn as well?

>>dampen vibration and noise.
What good will wetting it do? ;-)
You are right, however, the movement across an engine mount is vital. The engine mount really behaves like a spring, or, in a typical voided mount like a soft spring to start with and then a stiffer spring as the travel gets used up.
The vibration isolation at *most* excitation frequencies is nothing to do with damping - it's achieved entirely by the springing - a coil spring, or leaf spring of the same effective stiffness would isolate just as well.
However, in the region of any of the so called rigid body natural frequencies of the engine/gearbox (in the general, linearised, case, there are six such frequencies), the natural material damping of the rubber prevents large resonant vibrations.
Apologies for the terminological pedantry. :-)

What is the best course of action to take before the standard manufacturers warranty expires on your motor? Give it to the main dealer to do it and also have them do the MOT, or have it inspected properly by an independent third party? Read more
I have always taken it to a local garage who looks after cars out of warranty. Once over + MoT roughly £100 1 mth before expiry and he listed anything that needed attention. Good investment as what appears to be a rattle or vibration could be a lot more.
Renault Laguna gearbox on local shopowners car went 2 days after the warrranty and Renault made a token gesture of compensation. Renault parts are high cost!!
The shopowner returned the gesture to Renault - he bought a new Peugeot 407 the next week.

Hi any experience of front spring breakage on a class with 78000 miles up. I replaced the rear spring about 18 months ago nut now ione of the fronts has gone. I intend to have a specialist do this job asd i presume the front struts need removing and compressing to get the springs out. But do i really need to pay the extra £95 plus vayt to have the suspension realigned aftyer wards ? thank you Read more
Hi
I've got a p reg pug 306 xsi and the window's stuck in the door but I can't get the door panel off to have a look, stuck on the last bit, there's just the door handle left holding it on. Used to have a d-turbo and with that one i just had to slide it to one side and the handle popped off but I can't get this one off, anyone know how? Read more
It does, cheers... didn't wanna break it that's all.
Doesn't help me with the window though. Thought it was gunner be a simple case of putting that little clip back on but the cables are all tangled inside the motor... Bizarre.
Has anyone ever tried to replace the back section of a Mondeo Estate exhaust? My advice? Get someone else to do it!
The one piece type involves dropping the rear axle, cutting the pipe at the bend or sometimes, both. Why the eck don't manufacturers make cars more servicable? (Other than to give their mechanics work that is)
My car has been lifted nearly four feet off the floor and no matter which way the exhaust is twisted, turned or coaxed, it will not clear the axle without hitting the fuel tank, the spare wheel well or the car body.
Any suggestions for future reference? Read more
Yes - I've seen this problem with the back box on my Mondeo estate. The box (at about 8 years) had become very noisy with bits rattling around inside it so I took the car to my local tyre/exhaust centre. They had to cut the pipe to remove the old box and, in order to thread the new one over the rear axle, they had to drop the lift a bit whilst supporting the car body on a prop. It looked a bit like a tortoise's legs when you hold it by the shell.
It was all rather 'Heath Robinson' and, needless to say, I stood well clear!

They were fetching £3k to £7K depending on model with LHD's fetching considerable less at one of there previous auctions before thet went belly up.A garage Globish in Dresden is selling both MG and Rover 75's at absolute top money he has a yard full of the things and he wonders why he ain't shifting any some have been there three years to my knowledge.

This morning, just down the road, what looked and sounded like a virtually new VW 1300 beetle.
Where are they being made? Brazil? Indonesia? I thought the emerging world VW factories were now producing old Golfs and Passats.
