Looking at the other thread about oil changes, I was wondering where you can buy these things that can take oil out of engines and of course thins makes changing oil really easy.
Thanks for any information in advance. Read more
Is it possible to fit air-conditioning to a car which hasn't got it?
My wife's had her Rover 25 from new and is a great car which we have no intention of replacing for a few years yet. Just piggin' hot in the summer!
Is it feasible to fit air-conditioning components taken from a Rover 25 which was fitted with it, into our car?
Thanks Read more
There was no Japanses input in the 25, it was a modified version of the bubble shaped 200 which was a pure Rover design.
since I last visited I've actually no idea in which section I should be looking for (discounted) replacement floor mats/mat suppliers?!
I really only need the (monogrammed) drivers side, for a 3-year old Octavia vRS, as my heel has worn it through, but I suspect they won't be available as singles and I'm probably going to have to shell-out for the set of four?
Any pointers(online or within a 30-50 mile radius of MK) much appreciated.
Best...

For almost 9 years, the PAS fluid reservoir on my Mondeo has been one of its least exciting components - the fluid level has never changed - that is until yesterday when I noticed that the level had dropped about half an inch below the min level.
Then, whilst hosing under the front of the car (it's OK, no hosepipe ban here, yet), I noticed a slight oily film on the washings.
Could someone tell me, please, if PAS fluid is oil based as it looks as though there's a leak to investigate?

Thank you for updating us.
Interesting to note that the rad is the same sort of price as mine was two years ago.
Hello
I am sure someones knows the answer to this?
Does using cruise control use more fuel than using your foot?

Late to the discussion as usual, so I'll add:

Has anyone had the promised April 2006 software update yet that was supposed to cure the electronic throtle problem?
My S80 (ETM replaced Jan 06)is stalling again today! Read more
It is my understanding that the software update only makes the throttle position less sensitive. In this way there is less movement across the thin film potentiometer. However, the film will continue to wear and the problem will still continue to re-occur. BBA-reman recondition the units for £150 (ebay), as they are the same unit they don't need to be reprogrammed into the ecu. Reports vary as to the effectiveness and lifespan of this repair, but it is a lot cheaper than the £600-£800 per unit that volvo quote.

Watched a programme on TV last night about "Britains Biggest Spenders".
It featured a lady who was "wealthy" to put it mildly. She drove around in a Bentley and whilst on the way to the airport "popped in" to her local Bentley dealership.
She was told that they had a waiting list of around 100 cars, but after 10 minutes browsing she ordered a convertible AND a Coupe! Both in black and "move me to the top of the list please". "Certainly madam" came the reply.
10 minutes shopping and she'd just spent the think end of £350,000
Must be nice! Read more
I am thinking of renaming myself Citizen Smith.
Power to the people!!!
Very much off line, but I watched a re-run of Citizen Smith on late night TV last night. Bearing in mind how good it was when first shown it's dated horribly.
hello everybody, can anyone tell me where I can get hold of a dipstick for a rover 214si 16v twin cam, Ive just bought it and the dipstick thats in is rather bent to say the least, cheers Read more
A breakers yard would be your best bet.
I have an 1992 VW Golf 1.8 'Clipper' convertible which is totally original. However it does not have power steering and is very heavy compared to a modern car.
What's involved in installing PAS to this model and roughly what would be expense. Read more
make sure the front tyres are up to pressure?
is the steering wheel the standard size (not a smaller sports one?)
Both will affect steering - just think of your improving muscle tone.

Report on TV this morning about lack of knowledge of basic car maintenance, it's part of the test now and most people would fail as they can't even open the bonnet. Louise Goodman v Quentin Willson arguing the usual men v women mechanical knowledge stuff.
All going well and Ms Goodman showed she had an interest in cars until she said something along the lines of - 'modern cars don't need looking at between services anyway'. Really?
If I'd taken this advice my car would have run out of oil months before it's first service. The extended interval on the A2 meant it needed new front tyres before it was serviced! Read more
Just peachy, thanks!

For this a large syringe (50-60ml enema syringe) is simpler and much better.
Cheap, gives you complete control, and can be used to push or pull fluid, or cycle between the two....
