Hi,my wife is considering a new 108 bhp deisel ,there seems to be plenty of room inside but is the engine up to a family of 4 and the cars weight? at the moment she has a 1.2 clio which struggles on hills when half full and we dont want the same problem!
Also any probs with trim ,engine ,brakes etc that you owners can warn of?

Just finished a test on my car after running the Redex Gold diesel injector treatment through it. With 40 litres of cheap 'n' nasty Esso diesel in followed by 20 litres of BP Ultimate, the fuel economy went from 44 to 51mpg.
I was exceptionally sceptical so am continuing to test with cheap diesel to see if the benefits last. If not, it's back onto the Ultimate. :) Read more
I certainly don't imagine the reduced smoke under heavy acceleration when I use Millers Diesel additive. No clue what it does for economy as I don't keep track of my fuel useage. I tried a few times, but got bored and gave up. I decided I just wasn't curious enough and knowing the correct MPGs in relation to what the computer readout claims has no bearing my needing to refuel when the needle reaches "E" and the warning light illuminates.
They have just started selling this at a Tescos near me in Cardiff. Does anyone have any opinions on it ?? Is it any good? I think I heard it is a Bio etanol mix so I assume it is a little bit 'les bad' for the environment. I think they were selling it for 98.9 today... Read more
I have used this, and found i to be pretty good.
Does what they claimed it would do in my car (2000 Astra) ie makes engine smoother, and gives more power in the lower renges.
Simlar to Shell Optimax.
And happily for me I get more miles per tank, and following a rough experiment works out 0.1 pence cheaper per mile than 95 ron unleaded.
A friend has moved across the water believes he can buy cars in UK and drive them over to Ireland to sell at a profit. I don't believe it can be as simple as this, but looking on the web, cars do seem to be very expensive over there. Why is this so ?
For example:
Focus 1.4 LX 5DR Engine: 1.4 Petrol Price: ?15,950 Year: 2004 Colour: Vitro Mileage: 31,855 miles / 51,266 kilometers Owners: 1 Doors: 5
Mondeo 1.8 ZET 5D Engine: 1.8 Petrol Price: ?29,000 Year: 2006 Colour: Tonic Blue Mileage: 188 miles / Read more
And we comlain about the government in UK collecting 17.5% in tax from us?
Where as in Ireland it is Vat 21% plus VRT of 23%-30% making the car about 50% more expensive!

does anyone know if a 7 seater mpv has to have all its seats in for the mot, or can i leave the back ones out?
Read more
Unless the MOT test has changed, if there's a seat present, then it has to be secure (and all the other bumf mentioned in the above link). If the passenger seat(s) isn't / aren't there, then the tester cannot fail the vehicle as there are no seats present to test.
A few years ago a friend of mine was doing up his MG-BGT, but instead of taking it off the road and doing the job properly, he continued using it as his daily transport as well as trying to restore it to it's former glory. For convenience he only chucked the passenger seat in and didn't bother fixing it to the floor as it got in the way between welding and replacing the interior trim and carpets. When MOT time came around he just took the passenger seat out. Two MOT's later the tester commented "I remember this car, it didn't have a passenger seat last year - oh! it hasn't got one this year either."
Did something silly this morning. Started the car, moved it all of 5 yards and stopped the engine. I do this occasionally, but let the engine run for longer than 15 seconds.
I started the car again about 15 minutes later and the engine management light came on. I ran the car hard on the way to work and when I left the office at 4:15 it was still on. Strangely though, after I picked up my son from school the light did not come back on.
Any thoughts?

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive? Read more
It may be the oxygen sensor on its way out, had a similar problem with 2ltr turbo impreza. Renewed the sensor and no further problems.
You could do a search on google and find a method of testing the sensor and fault find the other sensors such as the maf.

I know my spelling is a weakness and have tried to correct it
the best I can
>>
bazz1603 - i sympathise with you, and i can see that you are now taking on the suggestions made. i see that you have now corrected most of the errors. just a few final touches:
"your" = you are
"wifes" = wife's
"I bet the garage with stick her straight back on the forecourt as the condition is that good" = in my opinion, the car is in showroom sale condition.
"excellant" = excellent
"Be Quick otherwise it gets Part exchanged" = don't bother bidding as it does not matter to you.
finally, are you sure about the 40mpg around "town" claim for a petrol estate car. if that is the case, then ok.

Hi all
Re: Pug 406 Exec 2.0L Petrol Turbo
Just some advice really... my Pug's temperature is usually around 70-80 degrees but during the past month or so, whilst we are being blessed with slightly nicer weather, the temperature increases to nearer 90degrees when in slow traffic and up to 100 degrees when stationary. When I get back up to speed the temperature falls back to 70-80 degrees.
Luckily the fan switches on at around 100 degrees and cools the water back to 90 degrees and saves the day... but then it re-increases to 100 and the cycle repeats itself. It has also got as high at 105 and I started to panic!
All my previous cars have been Fiestas and this was never a problem. Is this to be expected with bigger engines that have power steering, air con and the like?
I've just got home from work and will check the water level in the expansion tank later tonight... problem is the container is black and you can't see the water level! D'oh!
Thanks in advance for any advice/tips!
Cheers. Read more
It sounds like it is functioning more or less correctly to me. With the current weather conditions it is to be expected that the car may run a little 'hotter'.

This is a race between a jet fighter, a bike and a Porker. The caption says the jet's an F16, but if it is, I'm the Pope.
I reckon it's either a Jaguar or a MiG23. However, I'm leaning more towards the MiG because they're waved off with an Eastern European looking flag.
Any ideas anyone?

Imagos is right - these are pointless exercises. The bike will usually outrun them both off the line, the car will then catch it up and the plane will shoot past them both like they are in reverse by the time it reaches flying speed.
Years ago I went to a British GP at Brands Hatch (yes, it was that long ago) and was suitably impressed by the cars screaming round the track... until Concorde and the Red Arrows did a fly past and put them into a whole new perspective.
How come every single day traffic reports include several Jack kniffed lorries and caravans?
How do so many occur, and why do they take so long to be cleared up? and why do they nearly always take up 2 lanes on motorways.
Why on a single road (A303)today, do lorries struggle to do 40, until the dual carriageway when they suddenly find 50+ is easy, only until they reach the end of the dual carriageway when they revert to 35-40 AGAIN.
Finally WHY when I filled up at Sainsbury's in Staines was diesel 96.9, but when I got to Bristol,at Sainsbury's (A38 towards Bristol airport off M5) it was only 92.9. Is this the cheapest diesel around?? Read more
is it? do they?

"admit to towing a caravan"
I know, dreadful isn't it. What a bloomin' idiot I am. Still, got fond memories of carting very young children off to a beautiful, isolated beach in Greece, half mile long and crowded out with at least two or three other families in their tents/campers. Of course, we only got there after seeing the sights of most of the rest of W Europe, and the magnificent coast of Yugoslavia (as was). When they were older they appreciated Delphi, Parthenon, Corinth and other places for a few minutes before returning to the beach to pursue their interests in windsurfing, diving, sailing etc(courtesy of those other lovely Dutch and Austrian families on the beach who came properly equipped (I did take a lilo and diving mask and flippers). Then the final indignity, after 3 weeks at the beach (free) we used to get invited to that lovely chalet style home of the Austrians for a week, trips to Budweiss (taste that beer) and the Dutch couple insisted we go to Amsterdam to see their home and city. After about 10 trips like this one gets a bit fed up so wife and I now spend a few weeks cruising round France.
How I wish we had chosen to do package hols instead. You can't beat waiting a few days for a delayed flight, ending up in a hotel full of Brits, without your luggage, eating Brit food and if you don't like it, being unable to move on.
I realise the last paragraph is bigotted nonsense, but only the same as people who run down caravanning - I don't care, if you don't like it don't do it, but please don't "diss" those who do. Each to their own and may we all have a happy summer holiday (are you really going to a theme park in Florida durng the hurricane season? Is that why hols to Dominican Republic are so cheap in July? Will you be allowed out of the hotel compound or do you have to sit by a swimming pool for 14 days - only joking - enjoy your hols!!)
