I have an 1992 VW Golf 1.8 'Clipper' convertible which is totally original. However it does not have power steering and is very heavy compared to a modern car.
What's involved in installing PAS to this model and roughly what would be expense.

You would have to fit a rack,pump,reservoir and hoses.Not too difficult if you have mechanical aptitude.How much new parts will be is another matter,is it worth the expense?If you need a new rack anyway it would be a bit more viable.

It seems that Mk1 golfs RHD were never made with PAS in the first instance.
So any retrofit is going to be uneconomic and I'll have to forget the idea.

make sure the front tyres are up to pressure?
is the steering wheel the standard size (not a smaller sports one?)
Both will affect steering - just think of your improving muscle tone.
