My 97 1.3 endura engine ford fiesta starts and drives ok idles ok but when you give it a hard rev it does'nt return to idle it cuts out but will restart no problem, its becoming a real pain and dangerous when it cuts out when stopping at junctions etc

Can anybody help Read more

as previously suggested this is a very common fault on this model and it is usually the idle control valve at fault. However there is a "tweak" that may help your problem. At the end of the valve ,in the centre ( wire connection end)you will find some soft silicon putty.Carefully dig this out to reveal a large cross head screw. Now with a bit of trial & error you can adjust the tension on the internal spring & thus the damping of the valve.Suggest try 1/4 turn at a time.

I recently bought a new bottle of Millers diesel stuff which I have been using every few tankfulls for a few years and noticed a warning about its use with EuroIV motors. Can anyone explain why such a product should not be used and how and how often I should clean the injectors on my new car ?

AB, the explanation was too complicated to write down from a phone call but the gist of the concern was to do with the calalyst not the particle filter. My suggestion is that diesel BMW owners who are or want to use Millers rings them and gets the fill story from their technical dept.

I have a saab 9-5 with a knock from rear suspension, the springs & dampers have been done and a couple of rose bushes. The knock is still there. The suspension on the 9-5 is identical to the rear of a vectra so cant be that hard to fix! can it? How difficult is the trailing arm bushes? or any other ideas? Read more

Hi

Wonder if anyone has some good advice on sorting a problem i have with my 1996 Golf GTI 3 Door.
At high speeds it suffers from very bad wind noise on the Drivers side where the wing mirror is and up along the seal, also slightly less on the passenger side but it is still there.
Anyone know a cheap way to sort it, or just the best thing to do with it.

Cheers

Question: Are Car Warranties Worth the money???

The reason I ask is that since claiming for a gearbox with an oil leak to be fixed.(I was told that this was not covered) The motorplan policy is a Premier, one down from the top all singing and dancing platinum cover. A lot of people have told me that these warranties are not worth the paper that they are printed on. To be honest I am beginning to agree with them. If this was the case why do companies still sell them? LGH tell me that the policy is a very good one, Some how I'm not to sure???? Has anyone any thoughts on the matter. Apart from you should read the small print with a fine toothed comb and a couple of legal eagles. Read more

I'd read the small print very carefully if I was you, As any time spent by the garage fault finding, is down to you to pay for. As an example the garage can spend an hour looking for the problem. Cost of labour say £30. Find a screw missing. the company will then say £2.50 parts and as it takes 2 mins to put the screw in £1 Labour. Total cost £33.50 of which you will have to pay the £30. I hope that makes sense. Well that's basically what my LGH warranty says in the small print that you don't read until you make a claim and still get a big bill. Even bigger if the claim is rejected.

What's a good tyre in terms of mileage/cost to stick on a Mondeo Diesel Estate?
Presently fitted with 185/65/14 Avon CR322 on all 4 corners but having swapped front to rear about 8K ago i doubt that the front have another 3K left in them, they did 10K on the rear beforehand with no obvious wear.

I can get replacement "Avons" form MyTyres and fited locally for about £31 a corner.

Doubt that i'll fit them again. To only get 11K when fitted to the front does not make it economically viable.Anyone got a recommendation? Read more

Dynaxter HP2. Can,t comment on the Vredstein, haven't used them. I think Kleber are Michelin made in Austria. The Kleber tread pattern is very similar to the Michelins still soldiering on on the back.

Saw an article saying last month's numbers were 44,583, and lower than Nov 04.
Funnily enough, I abandoned my conscientious objection to paying the toll (even though I can claim it back on my expenses) and I've used it a few times recently. However I noticed cars stopped by unmarked Police cars on 3 of my trips, which tends to take the gloss off it.
I still think a lot of people end up on it by mistake, esp from the North end. Read more

Love it coolest bit of road in years ! Saw a nasty, very nasty accident on it the last time I used it. No Police in sight just a Paramedic's MPV protecting the scene.

After eleven years from new, the original back box on the Missus' 306 Sedan is starting to blow. Sure enough, it has two large rust scabs. I think I'll be writing a stern letter to Peugeout UK; the cheek of it to fail so soon in the car's life! ;-)

Out of interest, taking a gander at the full length of the system, the pipework appears to be stainless steel because it has no corrosion beyond light surface tarnishing and rings nicely if hit with a spanner. Joking aside, a shame therefore that the same can't said of the box, especially as it is a collection point for corrosive gases and water vapour. Any chain is as strong as its weakest link, and the box is it.

Anyway, the reason for the post; we are likely to keep this cracking fun car for a few more years, so saving every last penny on the cheapie-cheapiest of exhausts (rear section) is not my goal. I would like to fit a replacement that will see out our ownership, so my first thought is to buy from Peugeot.

Before I do however, is a replacement exhaust likely to be of the same excellent standard as the original, or given that mainstream production of new cars has ceased will Peugeot simply buy from the cheapest supplier once a bare minimum standard has been met?

Cheers. Read more

But there's banging an exhaust and lightly tapping a section of free pipe - a long way from the nearest box - to check pipeowrk integrity.

Hi has anyone come across this problem before?
My 95 Mondeo 1.8 TD was left unused for a month and ever since it has had problems starting.
It starts first time everytime, but then 5 seconds later the revs drop and it cuts out. when i attempt to restart it turns over but doesn't start and takes about 3 or 4 attempts before it starts after which it runs fine.
When the problem first occured it was just in the mornings when it was cold from not being used overnight, but it has progressively got worse and now happens everytime it is started even when the engine is warm.
Any help identifying the problems would be great and if anyone knows how it can be fixed then thats even better.

Excellent, a cheap simple solution, they're the kind i like!!
I shall try that today, and it does make sense as i had heard a funny gurgling noise coming from the primer.
Cheers thanks for your help, Merry Christmas.

Hi i have a 1995 Alfa Romeo 2.0 16v and have oil in the top half of the cooling system. in the coolant reservior and the overflow pipe. the radiator is clear and so is the top and bottom hoses. No water is in the oil system although the dipstick level has fallen. presumably being pumped out.

One thousand miles ago the head was skimmed and pressure tested ok. and all was ok as i checked levels everyday, until the last 20 minute journey. the car is still driving like a train.

my thinking is would'nt the headgasket have failed from the off if thats the problem or could there be a problem in the block?

your thoughts please
