This caught my eye, I thought LPG vehicles were only converted from petrols not diesels?

An already slightly over spent Ford seems to have found the odd billion to put into Jaguar. Must have been one heck of a sofa cushion hiding that little pile :-)

My personal impressions:
The XJ6/XJ8 range is overblown: ok for large corpulent company directors.Too big. 20 year old styling. No "buy me now" styling or performance. And a V8? Someone has no idea of fuel economy...
XK8? Costs a fortune to run. Not that great performance. Company directors again. Sporting content : Nil points.
Mondeo alternative..(X type)? I can see why they can't give them away..
S type? Overblown skirts, could do with slimming down and losing 0.5tonne.
All looks very overblown/out of date or in the case of the X type mutton dressed as lamb...
Compared to the competition the brand image is 40 years out of date, they are too costly to run, the performance and handling are indifferent and frankly the product planners were working on the basis oil is going to fall to $30 per gallon..(typical myopic US product planning which has virtually destroyed GM and Ford in the US).
I'm in my late 50s. I consider the Jaguar range styling as too old man for me:-) Reminiscent of 1950s faded and long gone glories...

Hi everyone,
Was just wondering if a new Clio 1.2 16v engine (not the latest shape Clio - the outgoing model) has a knock sensor on the engine that would make optimax worth having? Read more
We used to run a 1.4 206 and a 1.4 Xsara. Both ran smoother on Optimax. Don't forget Optimax's improved cleaning properties!
Hmm, maybe not totally motoring related, except to say that these turbines power the Nissan factory, so I suppose that's a good enough link.

These were taken from the A19 this afternoon, apparently 7 fire engines had to attend (wish I'd seen how they fought such a high fire). The rest of the windfarm has been shut until they find out what happened, apparently these things are standard wind turbines as found in any other windfarm.

Radio said that it was the motor (huh? These things don't
have motors do they?) I can only think that they mean
the actual generator bit. This caught fire and then set fire
to all the associated gubbins, interestingly enough even the blades appeared
to be burning.

Well it would need a motor to turn the blades to make the wind,or have I got the meaning of wind farm wrong?
Since my Corolla has been written off, one option (other than fixing the damage) is to get a run-about for the next 6 months ....
I noticed 406 hdi's going for less than £2,000 - any good ? Since I drive about 80 miles per day, diesel would help - how do I make sure it's not a 'clocked' taxi ?
Other option is a 1.8 S40 - petrol, of course - which one would be more reliable ?(don't want to end up with numerous breakdown's even if it's warranted for 6 months!)

Xileno is indeed correct that a Mondeo would be a safer option, but only if you are prepared to go for a petrol instead becuase the 1.8TD really is bad.
If it absolutely has to be a diesel, then go for the 406, not the Mondeo, but do be aware the 2.0 16v petrol engine in the Mondeo is easily capable of exceeding 40mpg on the Motorway.
Got an interesting shot that I want to add to the photo album that was taken whilst on the A19 this afternoon, can anyone enlighten me on how to add pictures to the MSN site?
Thanks and sorry for the off topic post!

Help!
My local private hire chappie runs a 2.0 (?) Omega, and has spent much money on (not) sorting out a rough idle problem.
It has been to a local Vaux. indie, plus had diagnostics on it, as well as a new air valve. No joy. It ticks over like a Wright Cyclone radial engine (as in DC-3) on startup.
He's despairing, and it's eating into his meagre profits.
Does anyone know of a common fault on these machines?
Cheers

Just for the record. the problem turned out to be the EGR valve.
The car is a late-2000, but carrying a "personalised" R-plate, which confused both the mechanic and me.
Thanks for all the replies.

Hi all,
Contemplating one of these to scratch my classic itch, in place of the ordinary BGT/ roadster I was planning to get. Downsides? Anything I need to be aware of?
TIA,
Alex.

I've got one! (1975 MGB GT V8). Had it for 20 years, I've covered about 100k miles out of it's total 180k miles. It's in the office car park now, I use it all year round as an alternative to my Audi A4- keeps the mileage down. Fantastic fun, real character, cheap to maintain, turns heads. MPG hardly any worse than a 1.8 MGB. The MGR V8 is obviously much newer, but also much more expensive. Also if you are tall there is far more room in the MGB GT bodyshell compared to the roadster shell (inc. RV8)- the windscreen line is ridiculously low in the roadster. The only thing I'd say is that even if you buy a pristine one you need to be a bit practical to keep it in good shape, or be prepared to pay for someone to maintain it and pay their labour accordingly. Intrinsically a reliable car (it has never once let me down) but like all 30-odd year old cars they require a vast amount of maintenance compared to a modern car.
The dash bulb illuminating the speedo clock has blown. Anybody know how to replace it? Does the dash clock face have to be taken out, or can it be done more easily. Any help/tips/links much appreciated. Read more
try posting on www.jag-lovers.org. Alternatively ring one of the Jag specialists, and see if they can advise e.g. Chiltern of Bovingdon, Les Pauls etc etc.
Sorry can't be more helpful.
My dad has just crashed his car for the fifth or sixth time in the last 2 years. They are always usually parking bumps (sometimes doesn't know he's done them!) but in the last six months he's reversed into a car on a main road and today crashed into a car parked by the side of the road while going out of a T-junction.
His car contol is ok, its the awareness thats the problem.
Are there any courses I can send him on to improve awareness and driving standards ? Not really looking at advanced stuff just basics . Read more

I must admit, I read this and can really sympathise with you. I have seen and been involved with drivers who seem completely unaware of their surroundings (outside the car).
I was involved in a situation about 18 months ago in a car park where an elderly lady reversed into my van, which was properly parked in a bay. She was attempting to park in a bay in front of my van.
She reversed with such force that her car bounced off the front bumper of my van, and came to a stop half a car length in front, protruding out of her parking space by half a car length.
Fortunately I had a witness to this, also there was no damage to either vehicle, and this was not my new van.
She then opened the drivers door, climbed out of the car, closed the door and locked it. I approached her about the incident, really just to make sure she was OK. She denied having done this. She was completely unaware that her car was now sticking out of the parking bay, and she was completely unaware that she had reversed into the van. I then turned to my witness who confirmed what I had told her. At this point she simply expressed extreme surprise, and apologised.
I was not going to claim off her insurance policy as there was no obvious damage and my vehicle was probably worth less than the price of a new bumper anyway, but I do regret not noting her number and informing the police, only for her own protection. I know a couple of PCs around here so I know how the local constabulary handle this sort of thing, hence a friendly visit over a cup of tea buy a PC would have at least alerted her to her awareness problem.
Carl, I wish you the best of luck. It's not easy handling this situation with anyone, let alone your dad.
There's an old saying, and I paraphrase "You can critisize anything you like about someone, apart from a couple of things, including their driving." So you're not alone.

Yes sorry but any time in my orginal answer i've mentioned LPG just quote it as Gas as i'm not sure what is what... Some old land fill sites & dissused coal mines that bleed off methane gas from the rotting garbage also use large diesel gen sets running off the bleed off gas and put surplus electricity into the grid
