Polo GT 1991 Jreg front wheel drive.
The reverse gear has started to crunch when selected sometimes. I can stop the engine select the gear and start up again, would this if it became worse or necessary to use this method to select reverse...fail an MOT?
What is the cure for the problem and how difficult would it be for me to do myself?
Sourcing a used gearbox for a 3F engine will not be easy.

this from the DVLA:
"The insurance must be valid when the licence comes into force and indicate that it covers the use of the vehicle by the licence applicant. If the cover is unclear you may be asked to provide written confirmation."
If a married couple have a car registered in the wifes name and the policy is in the husbands name as main driver (because he has the NCB and wife has none) and wife is a named driver on the policy......everything will be ok, yes?

Precisely why I use a broker. All these fiddly issues are dealt with by thebroker who has to date never not been able to offer me exactly what I want.
Parents, wife and myself have a car each. I drive the car registered to my wife and vice versa. Also insured to drive parents cars and vice versa.
The onl;y thing they cannot do is give us a block policy as the cars are owned individually and not by a single party, in which case, a fleet policy for up to six drivers would be cheaper.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
Hi,
I would like to get a personalised registration but due to my name I'm struggling. Unfortunately IAN is very hard to get on a plate without going for 1ANS (which there are very few of). The other option is to go for somthing like X1 JAN (Date of Birth). Finally I have the option of Y111 BAR or 0002 BAR (I saw a 0002 plate on a Mazda RX8 and thought it really stood out). Any ideas? No, sorry, back where you started unless you have two middle names...:-(

What\'s for you won\'t pass you by
Hello, Sorry if this should be in technical section, but I decided it was more of a subject for discussion.
We have two cars - one Audi A4 (petrol), and a just aquired VW sharan (TDi). Both are on the variable servicing plan - the Audi is now 15 months old, but has only covered 8K and is indicating that a service will be due in the next 6K or about 3 months time, so given the low mileage I have no problem with that, but the Sharan is the main family workhorse and will cover anything up to 20K per year. I have searched here before and the main opinion was that you should either return to fixed servicing, or oil change in between.
Given that the long life servicing has been out there some time now does anyone have any real experience of it in terms of how long they get between services, and any reliability issues with big service intervals outside of warranty? Read more
In the lab the IR transmission of oil is used to detect impurities (i.e. suspended soot etc.) - however I doubt this would be much use of a vehicle. For a start, some form of calibration would be needed. There are so many oils out there, most of which have not only a complex range of additives, but also dyes added - the appropriate chemical, electrical or optical changes would be almost impossible to nail down. I do not believe there is any sensor involved in the VAG system - as others have said, it is much cruder than that....
Anyone know if a 96 Citroen ZX TD with the twin headlamp system, has any relays or the provision for relays to be fitted in the fuse/relay box.
As some cars I know they don't have relays, but you can remove a link in the fuse or relay box and fit a relay as an upgrade.

If you are talking about relaying the lights directly from the 12v to make them brighter...well my 93 ZX TD with the twin lights didn't have any provision in the loom for relays for the lights and I very much doubt yours will.
I was going to relay the lights on mine but never got round to it-got rid of it in the end.
Does anybody know if the resistor pack for the fan sits behind the glove box as in the laguna 1.

Coming back from London today I came round the North Circular eastbound heading for the M1 at Brent Cross, however when approaching the slip road I found the queue for it was half a mile long and I had already missed my chance to join it. These people were of course not queuing for the start of the M1 but for Brent Cross Shopping Centre. Went on to the Brent Cross flyover and turned around to get on the M1 the other way which presented me with no delays. But there were cars parked everywhere! The whole area was solid with people queuing to park.
My question is, why? Do people just think, hey let's jump in the car and go shopping! Only when they get there they never think, what's the point, and turn around and head home. I would. Read more

OK.....so I have had my Citroen C4 for over a week. The speed limiter, what a great piece of kit!
I use it quite often and I can tell you that I have never felt so relaxed about driving! I can use my accelerator pedal as a foot rest almost. It seems to have taken any form of aggression out of me on the road. Mind you, there are a lot of angry people behind me on residential streets!
Went to Lakeside shopping today along the new bit of A13. I was so relaxed when I got there that I said "Yes dear, looks very nice on you" to every one of the 15000 dresses/skirts/trousers/pairs of shoes she tried on. Doh! Read more

But how accurate is it? My guess is that it is no more accurate than your speedo, which can read up to 10% fast.
Maybe this explains.......

Just a thought.

Does anyone know where I can get a Hyundai Galloper Workshop manual (English) please? I know the equivalent is the Mitsubishi Shogun/Pajero 1986-1991 will this suffice?

I have just got new insurance that does not include breakdown cover and as I have never had to call any of them out wondered which are actually the best. I dont mind paying for piece of mind but dont want to get taken for a ride. Thanks Read more
under a little known AA rule that restricts
assistance to 3 calls per person in a year; this may
just be for home starts but it caught us out at
a very inconvenient time
I think this is probably just home starts but also may be if the reason is the same or similar everytime. As far as i know they recommend you to have anything they do a temporary repair on fixed by a garage asap. What was wrong with the car to warrant 3 home starts in a year????

Temporarily not a student, where did the time go???

Roberson,
The wait method was not working, maybe because cold weather was causing the engine to run faster, but I had just driven 30 miles.
It has been ok for the last 2 days just the ever so slightest hint of a crunch when selecting reverse now. Thanks for your reply
PeterD,
The problem has slightly cured and seems to be intermitant. As it happens my foot slipped off the clutch whilst driving and in gear, and this has not affected it. I will try your method engine off a few times to see if it helps. Thanks.
