Even on my crusty BMW 320d the recommended oil change interval is 13000 miles-plus, and on newer models, much longer.
Seems to me like a big 'ask' on the oil, although these diesels use a fully synthetic oil (not cheap). Is there a serious benefit in inserting an extra change e.g. at the half way point?

I don't know if anyone can help, but here goes.
I'm thinking of buying a Tom Tom satnav thingy, and can't make my mind up between a Go300 and a One. As far as I can find out the processors and display are different, and obviously the 300 has a few more other features. Bearing in mind that I just want to go from A to B using postcodes or road names, and avoiding (for example) low bridges, would the One be as good as the 300 ?

Gard, I spotted rhubarbs post reference Tom Tom forum. Apparently the lists can't be deleted, but it's only about twenty items long. As new start / destination points are added the older ones drop off the end. Eventually I'll end up with only relevant recent entries.
Cheers anyway, Steve.
Hi to all
I have a problem with the central locking on my Toyota Avensis 1.8 GLS 1998.
The alarm works from both key fobs but the central locking does not - interior light also will not work when door is opened(bulb is ok)- interior door lock will not activate either so I was thinking maybe it was a fuse, checked all the fuses and they are ok (2 boxes one inside the vehicle and the other in the engine compartment - is there any more).
Does the central locking have a relay?
It seems strange that it as stopped working all of a sudden.
There as to be a simple explanation for this - Can any one thing of anything else.
Where is the main unit for the central locking, does this have its own fuse?

Hello all
The company I work (or worked) for have gone into adminstration, owning a multitude of people their months wages unfortunately also in my case the expenses I have paid out over the past month, this adds up to about £3k!
I have a company car, laptop and phone which of course I cannot keep in recompense but the dilemma is, the adminstrators have requested that I deliver them to my old head office, this would mean a 250 mile round trip at my own expense.
Could any legal type out there suggest whether I am obliged to take the property to them or can I just keep telling them to come and get it at their earliest convenience?
I have had numeroues suggestions from friends including stripping the motor down and posting it, and other very tempting but not entirely legal ideas.
Sensible and accurate advice most appreciated, and any other advice to make me smile would also be most welcome.
Thanks
CBG

I have read the Honest John Backroom off and on for a few years and am struck by the generally responsible attitude of its contributors. No one here ever drives with fog lights on unnecessarily, or holds a mobile phone whilst driving, or drink-drives, or sits in traffic with their brake lights on, etc.
As the HJ board is widely read and we are all so considerate and law abiding, just who are these bad drivers?
Any ideas?

I will admit to some bad habits. When I used to smoke I would regularly light up while driving. Also I used to take phone calls on the move. And anyone going slower than me was a fool and anyone going faster was an idiot. I now don't smoke, leave phone calls and don't care what speed others drive.
Ran out of fuel this afternoon, bit daft of me I know. I knew it was low but when I left home this morning at 530 it seemed to have dropped overnight almost and there was'nt anywhere open at that time thought I could make it to work and back. Nearly made it but it stalled to a halt 1.5 miles from civilisation. After a refreshing walk I put a gallon in and it churned over for about 30sec then fired and all has been well since. The car in question is a '95 diesel fiesta and does'nt have a fuel priming bulb like my previous peugeot and citroen diesels. I know that a diesel pump is lubricated by the diesel inside and should'nt be run dry, but could I have done any damage? Read more
Erm yeah, the Alfa. Not had much luck with that, after having a good long think about how much would need to be spent I can't really justify it at the moment. I'm on the look out for another similar car and use 'ERIC' as a doner for spares. Trouble is 75's are so rare to find these days, even more so a 3l in good nick.
Hopefully the new French registration system will be at least as silly as our 05, 55 etc. one is!
