Hi guys, I've got a uni project to do and it's based on MG Rover, the question is asking me to explain, from a business perspective, events leading to the takeover of MG Rover by Nanjing Automtive and it asks me to explain why the linkup with SAIC did not happen. I've also got to outline what I think the future holds for MG Rover at Longbridge. The project only needs to be about 2,500 words just to give you some idea of the level of detail that is or isn't required.
I've been looking at the BBC News website and it has some useful information, including a history of the company's decline.
I guess what I'm mainly asking is if anyone has any good ideas where I would be able to find some decent information apart from the Beeb's website, I'm sure I could write the project based solely on the contents of threads from the BR but unfortunately my uni won't accept "some bloke on the Backroom" as a credible reference! :-)

Cheers mate.
Just following on from a current thread and Alfa negativity just wondering if the forum is Anti-Alfa Romeo?

A friend of mine has an Alfa 156 and a BMW 5-series, and you can guess which one he moans about the most.
I'm with JC on this - Alfas are great cars to look at, some of the engines are brilliant, but you still have the lingering doubt that it'll break down just when you don't want it to. You also don't see any Alfa models in the top ranks of the JD Power survey either, which, rightly or wrongly, perpetuates the perception that Alfas are "fragile"....
Ran out of space on the topic title....
I´ve always liked cars, but am getting seriously bored with the current crop of car mags and TV programmes. What I would like to have now is a much more extensive mechanical knowledge of how the things work. At the mo´ I don´t know the difference between a carb and a solenoid, a coil and an alternator.
Can any of the Backroomers recommend me an easy-to-read book that will fill some of the gaps in my mechanical knowledge? I s´pose the ultimate aim would to be able to do more basic maintenance, but the initial priority is something to read rather than a specific Haynes manual.
The kind of thing I would have in mind would be maybe something like the ´Internet for Dummies´ book, but obviously with a mechanical theme.
Thanks in advance!

Cheers all for this advice, and a very Merry Christmas.
BTW Mrs Barchetta is yoyoing between hospital and home...we´re waiting for
the contractions to hit 4 minutes, then back to the Hospital.
Know the feeling - I spent all of Christmas Eve at our local hospital's delivery suite until Mrs B presented me with our son at 23.12 yesterday! Good luck!
Oh, sorry, yes, motoring link: I parked so long in the hospital car park that it was free because I picked the car up on a Sunday. Ha!

Unless you have a VW Polo Classic - which I have, and the engine code seems to give you a list of possible items that may be fitted on your car - depending on mood of fitter!
It's now possible to upgrade your Land Rover to accept modern computer diagnosis machines!

I love the backroom humour.
For laugh of the year I nominate smokies reply to an incomprehensible texter.
'Here , have some of mine' and giving him a line of full stops for future use...............

I have a 130bhp tdi 6 speed.
At the moment I am getting just over 50 mpg.
Just over 600 miles to a tank. Mix between motorway and urban driving.
Steering is not heavy at all. I suppose check power steering fluid level and tyre pressure.

If you had the choice & money was no object, what is the 1 true classic car that you would want Santa to bring you on Sunday?
My choice would be a 58 Plymouth Fury (aka Christine), all that chrome, the large fins & a 350 V8 to power it. It doesn't come close to say an E-type but IMO it still looks great & is definitely a head turning machine, a proper yank classic.
Here is the car in question

SjB, thought you?ld be in the Czech Republic with the wife.
Did you miss your braking point or something?
He he he! :-)
No, this was work; LOT from LHR to Warsaw for three days, and then the LOT flight back home to Blighty last night. As it happens I was introduced to a largish ex-pat Brit called Dave, and I thought "Surely not?!". As soon as I knew he didn't drive a Pug I knew "not"! I am likely to be back in Warsaw in the Spring though so if you fancy a vodka or three let me know.
We're off to Krnov on 28th via Prague, so the (cleanest you'll ever see ;-) Volvo will be locked in the garage for a couple of weeks.
BTW - How on earth do you tolerate Warsaw traffic? I swear that every matey in a left lane was turning right and vicky vercky! The resultant gridlock makes London traffic look tame. Add the snow and ice and that my colleagues (and their countrymen) all have binary driving styles and you have complete mahem!
Well, cheers for now and enjoy the festive season.
I filled up the other day and the pump cut out after every few pence worth of petrol. In the end I got fed up and went into the kiosk and said that I was going to move to another pump. The attendent said that they had just had new nozzles fitted to some of the pumps and that they were "a touch sensitive". She wasn't joking! The lenght of time that automatic cut-out nozzles have been around I'm surprised that they haven't got them right yet.

Added advantage of full tank together with spare wheel acting as a crumple zone in case of front end collision!!
Yeah right! Well I've survived the frontal impact due to my handy fuel tank, pity about 40 litres of petrol in my lap and is that a spark................................................
Ok C - and yes - I see where you're coming from.
But I'm opinionated and I like airing those opinions regardless whether or not I have a workable solution.
