yes,the 1.4 was available in 8valve and 16 valve configurations.VW will be able to tell you which you have from the chassis or engine number
|
|
yes, vag uses a three character engine code. It is in the engine number - in your case apq
|
|
What are the possible answers? Google seems to indicate 8V, 55KW, but there are a lot of variations.

APQ makes it a 1390cc 8-valve 10-1 compression 60 bhp engine made between '98-02 with Bosch Motronic MP 9.0 multi-point MAP-sensor controlled engine management.
There are 9 other different engine codes; all with different equipment fitted, to that 8-valve engine, in that short period alone.

thanks for information is there any difference in performance/reliability?

Terry [I'll get it right this time!]
The other 8-valve engine codes all seem to vary between 55-60 bhp; but developed at different revs. Yours is 60 at 4700; others at 5000 revs.
This is one of VW's better engines; certainly less trouble than the 100 bhp 16-valve versions. With proper servicing and quality oil [no GTX!] you can expect it to carry on for a long time.

Unless you have a VW Polo Classic - which I have, and the engine code seems to give you a list of possible items that may be fitted on your car - depending on mood of fitter!
