Review: Mercedes-Benz S-Class (1991 – 1999)

Magnificently refined, luxurious and roomy. Handles well for such a large car and cruises in hushed comfort. Very well built.

Feels very bulky on urban streets. Heavy tyre wear.

Should I buy an old S-Class?

I’m considering a 1993 Mercedes-Benz 320 S-Class. The car has had one owner from new and is sold with a full service history and 134,000 miles on the clock. Is this a lot for this age of car? I'd plan to use for weekends and holidays.
Of greater concern than the mileage, the problem with the W140 is the multiplicity of SAM units and relays so if there is any kind of electrical problem it can cost thousands to pinpoint. To illustrate this, 'Atomic' garage tried to flip one on 'Texas Car Wars' and got into so much trouble they had to sell the car at a loss.
