Plenty of buyers continue to appreciate the abilities of the seventh generation Golf. When it comes to an upmarket image there’s no doubt this is the benchmark. If it’s a premium feel you want, this remains the hatch of choice with quality as strong as ever.
If it’s economy that matters most the 1.6 TDI diesel claims 88mpg in BlueMotion form, but the new 1.5-litre petrol models should still return an easy 50mpg in everyday use and are cheaper to buy. And for extra pace there’s always the GTI or GTD.

Hired a cactus diesel for a week whilst on holiday and the fuel economy was good but there is a lot of wind noise on the motorway. My current car is a Modus, so I'm not used to a new posh car.
