Hi everyone,

Lots of air intake and boost pipes on these . Have you smoke tested the air intake system for any leaks .,?
Can anyone tell me what speed the car will go when in limp-mode?... Read more
Car when first starting is screeching when taking off. Noise persists for first 5-10 mins of drive and is worse on bends. Any advice most appreciated. Read more
Since its reported worse on bends, that might suggest bearing or CV joint wear, otherwise it sounds like ancilliary drive belt slippage.
A year ago when my small company fleet policy was being renewed, I was told there was an open claim which doubled my policy from £2000 to £4000. I was not made aware of the claim before the point of renewal, even though the broker knew about it months before.
There was an incident where someone drove into one of the vans trailer. No fault of my driver as the vehicle who hit him was the one changing lanes and drove into the trailer but he got very aggressive at the scene. My driver rang the police due to the threats but there was not much damage to the trailer so left it at that.... Read more

Just seen a Saab 9-3X TTiD4 on the road, the jacked-up 4wd version of the 9-3 estate. According to the How Many Left website, only 9 of this particular variant were ever registered in the UK.
Have you seen any rare models from relatively mainstream makers recently? Read more
Only about 1400 W12 sport quattros were made, obviously mostly LHD, for around a year, circa 2004, presumably as a sort of stop-gap between the D2 S8 (V8 - of 'Ronin' fame) and D3 S8 (V10 - same power as W12 but less of the effortless torque).
The D3 W12 has 7.5% more torque than the V10 (580 vs 540nm). Can't imagine there being a noticeable difference, especially since peak torque on the latter happens 500rpm lower(!).
Hi,
Does anybody know the value of this car? The bodywork and interior is good and it has around 90000 on the clock. It's an ex police vehicle... Don't know if this has any bearing? Also has full service history.... Read more
My company used to purchase our vans and we had a few Fiat Doblos with this engine.
The general rule in the trade was to run them upto 4 years or 90,000 miles and then sell as this was when the engine started to need expensive attention.
I did see vans with this engine do 160k trouble free but it was always within the first 3/4 years.
To finalise the point, the fiat commercial technician said after one of the vans had its first MOT to make sure it was the last MOT in our ownership.
The Doblos also suffered other issues most commonly suspension.
At the age your buying its likely had lots of the work done to survive this long, in a bizarre way it may actually be ok for a few more years, you would need a mechanic to have a good look at the engine.
As the other forum contributor has pointed out, there is no value in going for a diesel anymore unless your doing mega miles; even then a diesel of this age and this one in particular may wipe out any fuel saving with its first breakdown
The astra of this age is available widely, be picky and find a good one. Mechanical history and condition is far more important than body work and spec at this price point.

This thread should be made 'read only', not least because it would appear on the list as:

I would be very grateful if anyone could offer any advice on the following Zafira problem...... Read more
Update...I did go to the garage and spoke with a mechanic who said that the problem did not appear so bad and to first try using the diesel fuel additive to clean the DPF and exhaust system. So I bought the additive and we will see how it goes.
Just to add that I drove 45 miles yesterday with several stops and no further problems occurred.
Actually I wont, Because my car is 15 years old. The free extra year warranty only applies to cars under 10 years old.
But I still don't want to scrimp on servicing my cars... :-)
