Daughters car not with me at the moment. Apparently the screen is "stuck" on fuel consumption and average speed page. She could not find any way to reset the screen in her hand book and neither could she find any youtube clips etc

Any advice greatly appreciated. I have told her to watch this space. Thanks in advance. Read more

This is a UK site so none of us will be able to offer much if any help I’m afraid, none of the cars you’re looking at are available in Europe and insurance and the used market etc will be very different no doubt.

If you were living here I’d advise against borrowing for a first car as you will almost certainly have the odd knock and ding while actually learning to drive (you may have a licence but it takes experience to become a driver) and instead I’d just spend what you have saved on a simple, easy to insure, petrol engined car with a Japanese designed engine. Don’t get too interested in prestige or performance until both budget and skill allow. Read more

Hi all,

I’ve recently bought a 2011 Astra 1.6 petrol so I’m just getting used to what’s ‘normal’ after 8 years of Civics...

With the bonnet open, the engine sounds like a rattly diesel to me! Here’s a video youtu.be/1RNAi9h1O6g

Looking online there’s a lot of ‘it could be this or that’ such as cam pulleys and hydraulic lifters.

Has anyone else had experience of this or have a good idea as to what it could be?

It’s still under warranty so I’ll be taking it back, I just want to go there with an idea of what it could be so I’m not fobbed off with ‘they all do that mate’.

Thanks!

EDIT: Thought I should mention, it didn’t sound like this when I inspected before buying it. Also the garage I bought it from gave it an MOT, Service and new cam belt kit before I collected it. Read more

Thanks for your reply.

With the engine running I was able to open the oil filler cap and I could feel suction when it was loose.

Service now done., charged a very reasonable £37.50 half hour for wiring in the dashcan properly, freeing up the 12 accessory socket in the console and removing the trailing wires.

Car returned nice and clean inside and out and no surprises on the invoice....

All you have to do, Sam, is make a new post on your original thread and it then comes to the front again. So you don't need to start a new one.

I'll do this for you on your old thread.

My wife and I usually shop at Morrisons. Today we spent over £60 and got the petrol voucher. Happy days.
For the same shop, having spent over £40, we also got 4000 extra Morrisons More points worth £4. Read more

No they don't. 6p off a litre of fuel when you spend £20 in store. I'm reading off my voucher for this week. I grant you that the qualifying amount excludes buying fuel, but then I never made that claim. The same goes for ANY other supermarket - they expect you to send a lot in store to qualify for a fuel discount.

As I said, it's often better to use the spend £20 (in store), get £4 off your shopping bill, as 6p a litre off fuel for the same spend means most people won't be able to get more than £3 off fuel, because their car's fuel tank is around the 50-55L mark, meaning most people won't be buying 50L of fuel that attracts a £3 discount....

Hi I am trying to fit an aftermarket headunit to my corsa and it needs a supply from the accessory side of the ignition switch. It has no cigarette lighter but has an accessory socket but the supply to this is only there when the car is running. Does anyone know where to run a cable from.that comes on when i am in position 2 on the ignition switch.

Thanks in advance Read more
