I'm looking to buy a newish second hand qashqui automatic. There's rather a hugh price difference between the pre-2018 models with the old CVT/Xtronic gearboxes and the new DVT gearboxes. I've had a CVT qashqui before and didn't mind it, though I gather its not terribly highly thought of by car enthusiasts. I'm not really an enthusiast, just looking for a reliable, comfortable car that gets me and my kids from A-B. Just wondering whether the consensus was that it's worth paying the extra for the DVT gearbox or not? Read more
I realise that there are some discrepancies between the British and American car markets. For example, prices are similar in dollars to pounds.
Volvo in the United States has announced a mid life upgrade for the XC60 including a full sunroof as standard on all models, and a better trim on the R design. Is this likely to happen on European, and in particular UK models? Is it just a matter of time? Have they offered the USA first as it's a bigger car market?... Read more

My wife had a die cutting machine which stripped a couple of teeth off a metal cog inside, no part available so it's basically scrap, but whilst looking for a used one for parts she found a chap on the bay of E who sells such things, gears drives, microswitches, springs etc..... Read more
My neighbour at my previous house had a small engineering business. He employed three skilled fitter/turners and the work they turned out was impressive. Especially as he and the old boys he had were of the age when skill levels were higher and apprenticeships more encompassing. He made all sorts of parts for Victorian machinery and luckily his reputation meant he was always in demand for anything out of the ordinary. It would be a pity if these skills disappear, as they will with CNC machines taking over the vast majority of production items. As GB said, the die cutter was only £80, how much skilled trade time will that buy these days? Cheers Concrete

Thank you for coming back to us to confirm the code is correct. I'm glad that what took me less than a minute seems to have caused so much joy!
Those triangular switches are actually diamond shaped, but there again you are from the north east. Read more

Hi. I am looking to upgrade from my current 2004 honda civic to a sporty 4 door sedan/hatchback. I have a budget of approximately £15k . My annual mileage is low around 5k miles hence I am looking for a petrol. The octavia vrs and the 330i both fit in well within my budget but the bmw feels like a much nicer well putogether car. I have gone through a lot of posts and reviews online, this has left me really worried about the service costs and possible repairs that may be required if I go with the bmw. I quite like the car and love the way it drives. I would love to have some advice on possible options so that my annual regular maintenance is under 500 pounds. Look forward to your inputs. Read more

Please can anyone help???
I went to do an oil change on our Skoda Roomster and managed to drain the Automatic transmission fluid by mistake. I only lost about half a litre (if that) before I realised my mistake and put the plug back in but obviously now it needs putting back in. Yeah, I know I should change it but as a temporary measure until I can afford some new stuff, I'll put what I drained back in...... Read more

I was thinking the same, however it doesn't feel like slipping but more like engage/disengage pattern which doesn't make sense. Why it would do that?
Because its slipping?...
Hello,
Just bought myself a used car (a 2006 Kia Rio) and I just went to the store when it was dark out an noticed a blinking blue light by the rear view mirror, and it turns out to be an antenna for an aftermarket remote start/security system. The only thing written on the antenna is "SH 433-101" which is the part number for the antenna made by Autostart. The guy I bought it from never mentioned there was a remote starter and I didn't get any kind of key fob with the car, but it would be nice if I can try and get it to work.... Read more
HJ's IT guru doesn't need to do anything, these half wit spammers don't realise what a bunch of curmudgeons we are here, whatever they might be trying to flog if we could be bothered to click the links they provide it would only be to note the seller or service provider and make sure they never saw a penny of our hard earned as long as we live.
Let them continue to shoot themselves in both feet, it's wasting their time and mildly amusing watching their toes vanish into red mulch, it takes Avant seconds to sweep the mess away with a click of his mouse.
Hi,
Im looking to buy a T5 with a dsg transmission and am curious as if the DSG advertising is just a trademark and the car does the car come in fact with a torque converter and belt clutches. Ive looked up for transmission service and all have red oil and internal oil filter wich is unusual for a dsg that has goldish oil and external oil filter housing. Read more
Thank you all for the answer.
Im against a dsg in such a heavy aplication becase the car will be used moderatly on moving heavy loads. Even if the clutches in a dsg manage to hold up at least as long as the dry clutch in a manual, replacing costs are 5 times bigger than in a manual....
Seat comfort is absoutely vital, especially if you have a back problem. If the Qashqai is the only car you're comfortable in, then that's what you should get. A further advantage is that you don't have to climb either up or down into it to get in and out.
Get as new a Qashqai as you can afford - ex-demo perhaps? - so that you have plenty of warranty remaining. And you need to make sure that the actual car you buy has the same seats as the one you've sat in already.
