Morning all,
Back in 2007 I renewed my car insurance. The new insurers emailed me asking for proof of my NCB which I did. I also asked them to bring forward the start date of the policy by 1 day as the date on the paperwork they sent me was wrong. I was sent my documents through about a week later so assumed (stupid me) that all was now correct. I paid for the insurance in one go. I got stopped by the police a few days later saying I was showing as not having any insurance. I explained that I did and had recently changed provider. As it was before 9.00 a.m. they let me go and said they would check with the insurers when they opened. They rang me later that day to tell me I had been driving with no insurance as the policy didn’t start until the next day, they then, over the phone charged with me driving without insurance. I then rang the insurers who told me my policy didn’t start until tomorrow. I told them about they email but they denied all knowledge, despite the fact that they’d received proof of my no claims bonus within that email and they weren’t chasing me for that anymore. They then said that as I’d been charged by the police for driving without insurance they were cancelling my policy. Cutting a long story short I got found guilty by the courts and was fined £800 and given points. ... Read more

Call me suspicious, but a slightly..er...naive question followed by a link post says SPAM to me.
How does the MOT testing deal with what is increasingly common on cars....that is when the indicator is operated the side light goes out....I thought it was a requirement that side lights worked all the time? Read more
My Astra is the first car I've had with DRL and auto lights. Quite happy with both. Whilst the dash is permanently lit, there's a green 'lights on' indicator for headlights. They sometimes come on a bit earlier than I would have chosen, but so what. They usefully come on in multi storey car parks and in winter when the sun is low.
Well done.

I am planning to apply the car loan. Instead of down payment may i use the credit card? Read more
I get the impression from a car purchase that dealers don't like customers gaining section 75 protection by using a credit card for even a small part of the full invoice.
Precisely that....
Just bought an A2 with a six CD player and worked out how to eject the CDs one by one but how do you load the new ones ?
And what is the load button on the control panel for?

Not done one of these , but probably similar to an A4 . If you can open the tray , I think there are plastic lugs each side . Push them inwards, and pull the whole thing forward. The cup holder is a complete cassette. Time to join the A2 owners club .
So, 4.20/4.30am this morning, M1 Northants, 4'C and rising and we have a gritter going in both directions spreading.

Should have updated this before but had a call from the driver of the car I was following (the 100% without a doubt blameless one) to thank me and tell me I would not need to provide any further witness statements. His car is currently being repaired by his insurers under their "uninsured driver promise" since it appears the young girl was not insured to drive her mothers new motor. He is happy with the outcome but still furious about what happened.
No idea what will happen about the other drivers car/claim now but it must surely make it difficult to apportion any blame to him. I think that the uninsured person has to take 100% of the blame since she should not have been on the road....

And yeah, my company is doing China certification for Industrial products - however China is a very different market from India and Industrial products are different from cars, so I figured I'd get better answers here....
Engine Management light came on immediately after MOT at 7 years (66k miles) - a coincidence I think - so booked into main dealer for diagnosis as I feared problem might be associated with EA189 emissions fix which I was still under the limited 2 year VW UK warranty. Turned out to be a defective glow plug which was not associated with the fix. No complaints about the service I received from the dealer or the cost but surprised that the opportunity was not taken to replace all 4 glow plugs at the same time as I imagine once one fails the rest will likely follow. I was told that it was VW policy only to replace the defective one but not being a mechanic (but not being stupid either) this left me feeling a little suspicious about their motives (i.e. repeat business). Am I wrong to be suspicious? Read more
My experience is that glowplugs tend to fail one after the other in a period of 6 months or so.. (did on Yaris and Peugeot 106. Replaced two on Yaris - others failed within 3 months)

I would suspect that there is more to your 2007 story, as I would expect any current decent insurance Company to have ammended your Policy to account for this wrong day oversite..
Go visit or call an actual; insurance broker in order that you can explain the story, and he will then put the details to appropriate insurers.
Dont bother with any comparison sites
