I have a 56 registered Lexus 450h. This is it's third winter but last winter I found water soaking the carpet on the drivers side. It eventually dried out, with lots of newspaper and hair drier use and I had no more problems over the summer. It doesn't get any wetter when using a hose to clean it.
Now it's coming back. There's no obvious water track or drips, and the heater and radiator are not losing water. Our local garage has cleared the drain tubes and could find no reason for it to get wet. The passenger side is fine. The carpet is wetter on the offside, near the door hinge.... Read more
Having trouble finding my engine number location. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks Read more
The owner's handbook will tell you where to find it - I seem to remember it's under the air filter somewhere on the 2.2.
Being aware of the 'two months tax for one month's ownership' scam which we are attempting to avoid, on 31st Oct went online to change Focus ownership from MrsF to son, who was temporarily with us until he found somewhere to live. New V5C arrived today so went on line to retax. Told '....expired on 1st Oct... (a lie - it was taxed for a year in Aug) ....can apply from 1Nov but it is an offence to be the keeper of a vehicle that is untaxed and does not have a SORN..... DVLA's enforcement section may be in contact with you regarding this gap in tax (my bold).
We lie awake awaiting a 4 am knock at the door by black clad goons. I'll keep you posted on how much tax is reimbursed. Yes, I know it's only a matter of £25 or so, but it's the thoroughly underhand unBritish behaviour that rankles. Read more
<< But it doesn't allow you to postdate the date of transfer/sale, so I did it on the 31st Oct. >>
I suppose DVLA's thinking is that unless you arrange a sale at exactly midnight, both buyer and seller are owning the vehicle on the day of sale, which clearly requires double VED .....
There are plenty of threads about blade problems, but I've not tripped over any about the working life of a blade. I recently fitted new Bosch blades to an old 306, which eliminated juddering caused by stiff old ones. Looking through the car's history I noticed that blades had often been replaced at the annual service, which made me wonder whether that was just to add a bit to the bill, or if they actually needed replacing.
How long does a blade typically take to stiffen up and start to judder? Read more
In Alpine regions , during the skiing season, the motorists always used to leave them flipped up. I guess its easier to clear your screen when the blades are not frozen to it.
Not typically an issue in Taiwan....
Just curious. I wouldn't buy them here in Taiwan ( if they exist) but I used to buy them in the UK (Centurion brand, IIRC).
Had a Google and a company by that name exists, but they seem to be just truck and agriculural.... Read more
Kingpin remoulds were well respected in the off-road world and were the go to tyre for trials and stage rallies. The high rate of attrition through damage and wear on these events meant any money saving was very worthwhile and they had prodigious grip, I suspect because they seemed to be a very soft compound. I believe some weren't road legal.
How did they manage to make them road-illegal?...

Is 'brand name' fuel really any 'better' for our vehicles than the less expensive (I refuse to say 'cheaper' :D ) supermarket fuel? Read more
Still paying 133.9-136.9p/litre for diesel round my way. Hasn't changed price for around six months.
Just after some advice.

If one driver has to "give way" it is implicit that the other driver has a right of way.
Seriously mate, who has an AOL account in the UK (I doubt if that many have one in the US now)? You got the wrong website AGAIN, you twit - this is NOT the US .com version and nothing to do with the .co.uk version you've spammed us. You are just wasting your time. Read more
Out of curiousity I ran a check on my traded-in 2012 Civic which is being sold by a major auction house. I was surprised that they picked it up on poor paint repairs on one door and the rear bumper. During my ownership these have never been repainted (not even stone chip touch up) and I have hand-washed and polished it many times over the last 6 years without noticing anything untoward. So while I have to accept their judgement that it was previously repaired, it was not evident to regular close inspection.
It made me wonder why they would record this invisible damage and grade the car as "3", on a scale of 1-5, as a result. Trust me, whoever buys it and resells it will not need to do any repairs on these areas.
It's of no consequence to me financially now but can anyone explain what might be going on? Is there a counter-intuitive benefit to the auction house if they are picky and then achieve a better than expected price for a grade 3 car? .......Maybe I am over-thinking it. Read more
Thanks for the clarification on grades. I didn't realise these were absolute grades irrespective of age and I assumed that an older car would get a lees strict age related grade. So grade 3 is pretty good.
While they may have eagle eyes they didn't spot the sill repair my local bodyshop did a couple of months ago. It was an immaculate repair of a long kerbing dent and he achieved a perfect match across both the shiny finish and the rough underseal type paint. He operates from an old shed but there are lots of fancy cars as testament to how good he is. And only £300. Try getting that from a glass palace!

So what ?
