Difficult to engage reverse or 1st gear when starting. Once running everything runs smoothly. Garage cant find anything wrong but reckon its a common mondeo problem as the clutch plate may be sticking on input shaft. They reckon only way to check is to take gearbox out.

Engine control systems on modern cars are very complicated with loads of sensors feeding info into the Ecu . Interrogation through the diagnostic system should help identify the problem . Doubt if this will be the last of any issue . All makers have their problems.

You may see 12 volts on your meter , but it’s the current they draw that’s important. This is probably regulated from the glow relay . Please check that you have the correct parts for your car .

hi, just bought a van with a single key, no buttons on it and it was taped up. van starts ok so presume the immobiliser chip is in there but there are no buttons,

Almost too scared to even ask a main dealer, probalby cost more than i paid for the van. lol
Just had to pay over £400 to fix the front passenger window! A new window motor and wiring were required.

Funnily enough this isn’t that common a failure on Polos of this vintage (though I’ll hazard a bet that it wasn’t the motor itself but the wiring connecting it) but it is a very common fault on MX5’s. The mechanism rots inside the door and replacement at a main dealer is around £350 last time I asked which is a joke.
With all this brand bashing thought I'd do the opposite. I've had several Volvos over many years and they have been excellent. The estates..240 through to present V70 are real workhorses, They eat motorway miles and are pleasant to drive with few vices. As a long term bet they take some beating..literally. Read more
Like argybargy I'll nominate and H reg, in my case a Citroen BX RD estate. Engine of coure was that pioneer of diesel car motors - PSA XUD.
By 1991/H the 1.7 diesel in early models had been replaced by its slightly bigger brother the 1.9. As an RD (Not TRD) it had no turbo so not fast in absolute terms 0-60 was more calendar than stop watch but diesel torque meant it was pretty sharp on 40-60 or 50-70. And of course it was as fast as anything else at 70!! Whatever the performance numbers in 'Autocar' said it felt much faster than the 1.6RS (petrol) BX hatch it replaced. ...

Thanks for the tip, does look to be a right pain which makes me think the dealer probably won’t have done it as part of the annual service.

Garage is not far wrong . Clutch kit and dmf is around £400 . The job involves a lot of labour to remove / release suspension and subframe components.
