Any owners of the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross 1.6 petrol on this forum?
This car has great fuel economy specs, both on official specs, as well as on this site's real economy section. Despite being a crossover and having a 5 speed manual gearbox, The fuel economy figures trumps those of hatchbacks like the Auris and the Civic.... Read more
The car was first registered in 2003 and has a long standing intermittent problem. It always starts first tine despite only being used once or twice a week. On odd occasions the car has refused to start when left for a short time. The warning lights come on but the car will not crank. If I leave the car for about two hours it will immediately start again. I have replaced the battery recently and the car can drive as it should for weeks only for the problem to reoccur. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Alan. Read more
Yes it is. Some months ago when I had the problem I managed to start the car after locking and unlocking the car with the key in the ignition switch. Thanks for your help.

Hi All,
Tomorrow I will be buying a Mazda 3 2016 with 52k miles on the clock. What should I look out for to make sure everything is good? I've already done a RAC check and everything was good with the car having a MOT last month.... Read more
Even main dealer approved stock may not have fsh. My son bought a used Mazda 3 last year, "approved" just meant it had a recent service. His one had an apparent gap the selling dealer had ignored. To get the sale they then called the previous owner and got the invoice for the missing (indie) service. So you are absolutely right to check carefully what has been done.
The thing is that all Mazda servicing at their dealer network has been kept online since the mid 2000s, so it could be that the previous owner just didn't get it serviced at a dealership or (worse still) not at all on schedule.
To me, that would be a red flag. I wouldn't have so much of a problem in a car getting serviced by an indie (if reputable and done on time/as per the manufacturers requirements) outside of its warranty, but would if that was during the warranty period.
Which model would you go for?
It's for a short distance use car with efficient mpg? I used to look on AutoTrader but would prefer the convenience of buying local now.... Read more

Hello!
I'm looking to buy a used car (2016 Mazda 3 2.0) and from looking at an HPI check and service history, I can see it's have two owners - the last owner brought it in August last year at 17,110 miles. Fast forward to today and I'm looking to buy it from a dealer (Suzuki - I think it was a part-exchange) - it has 19,500 miles. It looks like the dealer has had it since January.... Read more
See my general comments on the other Mazda3 thread from today - they will relate to this just as much.
I see from today's Times that Audi plans to fit a device which tells the driver what speed to use to reach the next traffic light (in a sequence) when it is green - presumably all part of driverless car technology. This should add even more fun to the urban rat-race? Read more
Yay, can’t wait for even more aggressive tail gating from Audi drivers coz they have predicted the light changes seconds quicker than I have.
Hi
I recently bought a 2015 Ford Focus from a car dealer. During the second drive the engine warning light came on and so I was off the road for a week before I could get the car back to the dealer. The dealer said one of the spark plug coils was showing as wet and so they replaced it. One week later after around 300 more miles the warning light has come on again and I’m due to take the car back again on Saturday.
I suppose I would like some reassurance that I shouldn’t just ask for my money back. Is this just bad luck or might there be an underlying issue with the car. Any advice would be much appreciated.

A younger neighbor of mine has an ecoboost estate it has now clocked up a 150000 km with absolutely no problems they appear to have sold a lot round here whether they are all as reliable I would not know.
Currently in the process of looking for a new car. Regular daily commute is approx. 140 miles (70 miles e/w) so would be looking at possible mileage of 35,000/40,000 a year. Therefore we need a car that has a high mpg but also has enough space in it for 2 fairly decent sized dogs in the boot.

Hybrids and motorways miles are not a good mix. You'd get an almost new Kia Optima Sportswagen for that budget with the bulk of its 7 year warranty left.
If I had to buy a German estate for that budget, the Mercedes E-Class is likely to be the most dependable (can't believe I'm saying that about a Merc!) - and certainly the most comfortable - but might be slightly larger than you want. Recent BMW engines aren't exactly bulletproof - ask Essex Police. But then I wouldn't buy a car from the company that asset-stripped and destroyed Rover, nor would I buy anything from the VAG fraudsters. A Jag XF sportbrake is an interesting alternative. Nice car but can suffer from niggly problems - like the 3 series. A Mondeo Vignale would be the pick of the bunch value for money wise - if it was not for the awful (to be avoided) powershift transmissions. Volvo V60 is quite nice - but not entirely dependable either - buy the Kia! :-)
Thanks SLO76! Your advice is as always, highly appreciated.
My mileage does not warrant a diesel....
