Gearbox has failed on my four year old S Max Auto. I have only had the vehicle for a year(Bought from a Ford Garage) but Vehicle is out of warranty and Ford want over £4000 to fix it! They are unwilling to make any contribution to the repairs, but I dont think its right that a gearbox should fail after only four yers. Ive checked independent garage/ gearbox repairers and no one will touch it. Some advised that there were a lot of problems with ford gearboxes especially in powershift gearbox. Beginning to think this is a bigger problem than Ford want to admit and I was wondering if you'd heard of other cases like this or have any advice? Read more
My 59 plate Scirocco went into limp mode while driving a couple of weeks back. On diagnosis the throttle body needs replaced. After going into the garage and getting parts that end with the letter a, b and d none have been the right size. The bore diameter of the one currently in the car is 60mm but the depth is 72mm yet every one they’ve received from a supplier has had a depth of 85. Any help on how to source the right one? Surely if you contact Vw parts department and quote the reg and Vin number, you will be supplied with the correct part. The replacement part may have been updated, so the part # may be different.
Around 18 December 2018 I purchased my 530D from an independent dealership, it was 2015 model. I part exchanged a 2011 520D for this car.
Few days later I needed to check with BMW regarding software update, and I was informed that the car had a recall on EGR Cooling, and they booking me into come on the 17.th of January. I was told if they discovered an issue they would need to keep the car for 48 hours and I would get a hire car.... Read more
Thanks for noticing, Fiesta Owner. We don’t need this twice, so please use the thread in Legal if you want to comment further.

My bet is that you have a faulty turbo control valve or chloged fuel filter
Whilst stationary in queuing traffic My Audi A3 was hit by another vehicle sustaining body panel damage to the rear offside quarter wheel arch. I was able to drive home.
The other driver reported it to their insurer (Admiral) as did I, and Admiral accepted responsibility to repair the damage their customer caused to my vehicle. Rather than go through my own insurer (although I did notify them of the accident) I decided to approach Admiral directly and agreed to use one of Admiral's approved repairers and Admiral also provided me with an Enterprise Hire Car, which I still have.... Yes - looks like it. But as in this case, the 'innocent question' is so often either stupid or illiterate, or both, that no-one in their right mind would ever be tempted to buy the product that they then push.
Hi guys, having a hard time deciding between two small cars and wondering if you guys can help me decide.

I have a 2012 Polo which I’ve enjoyed despite numerous relatively minor issues. They’re pleasant to look at, sit in and drive. They’re practical for a supermini and easy to sell on again. That said the biggest weakness on them is the engine range. The 3cyl 1.2 is utterly gutless, the diesels are prone to EGR and DPF problems and the old 1.4 petrol while quite robust is a bit flat and inefficient. It’s also due a timing belt at 5yrs which will no doubt be overdue so unless there’s proof in the form of a receipt then factor it in when offering.
In this case I’d probably take the Peugeot which to date has quite a decent record for reliability in 1.2 petrol form and it’s quite a comfy thing with decent space. I can’t say I enjoy driving them as much as the Polo though, I find the gear-change quite cumbersome and long travel and that daft power ranger leg gear-lever doesn’t help. That said, it is a robust little car with a pleasant engine.
I’d personally be expanding your search to include the Mazda 2 1.3 and Ford Fiesta 1.25/1.4 both of which are nicer to drive and both are generally more reliable than either the Polo or 208. But of the two you mention and assuming both are in good condition with full histories I’d go for the lower mileage Peugeot.

You have selected it by using a button/knob. If you have steering wheel remote controls it is selected by rotating the RH knurled wheel.
Having an issue at the min with my 2014 308 when starting from a cold start car is almost impossible select reverse ,also 1st gear very notchy ,almost as if you are having to force it into gear ,spoken to Peugeot regarding the gearbox oil which apparently is not scheduled to be changed at any point [should last the life of the car ] ,only time they change it is if they are doing repairs to the gearbox ,One thing i have noticed is the clutch pedal is sticking ,you sometimes have to hook your toe below it before it springs back full distance so i am thinking [hoping ] clutch cable ? Once car warms up and has driven a bit no problems selecting gear ,everything as normal ,car has covered 53,000 miles. Has anybody encountered a similar problem? ,any help greatly appreciated
Also terrible road noise began around the same time ,just got 2 x new tyres fitted and the other 2 x checked so that rules out tyres ,having trouble diagnosing if its a wheel bearing or not ,hope the road noise is not related to the gearbox issue? ,by the way no noise when clutch pedal is pressed in fully or vibration from clutch pedal Read more
If you can select gears from cold ok with engine not running, then it’s highly likely the mechanics are correct. The clutch needs investigation.
Hi, hope you can help. I have recently looked at a 2007 Kia Picanto with a view to purchase. Asking price one thousand pounds. *Seller advised brake pipe has corroded currently and is covered in grease. When test driving the car the appeared to be a noise which indicated a slipping fan belt, the seller confirmed this saying he tweaks it or resets it when this happens. The mileage on the car is 49,900. Obviously I do not want to buy a car that is going to cost me a lot to repair it. Please would you advise me what these repair costs would be and what the long term implications... the steering wheel also seem to shudder slightly..... if it will help you the registration number is AV570ER - the car has had one owner and is very clean....would really appreciate your advise. Thank you. Read more
Some Picanto's of this period suffered issues with a faulty crank bolt that secured the front pulley. Cars that used Kia dealers for servicing should have been sorted (simple replacement of bolt) but those serviced outside the network (or not serviced at all were at risk of the bolt failing and the damage required a new crank to sort.
I suspect that this car has suffered damage and the regular tightening is just the owners bodge. Only fix is new crank/engine. The expense will write off the car....
Hi all,
I just bought this as a second hand car from a person and I realized the following possible issue. When I start driving, I see that the coolant temp. gauge increases and hits close to 90 C. but the issue is that this takes a loooong time. I mean, this morning, I hooked up my old DiagBox and started measuring the temperature. It increases incredibly slow. Imagine I drove about 35 kilometer on highway and it just arrived to 50 C at the end of the journey. The temperature increased literally 1 C each minute or so. I turned on the blowers to max and hottest and it was quite hot. I mean, I closed the air outlet with my hand and I could resist only 5 seconds. The coolant level is OK. What would be the issue here? How can I possibly verify if the coolant temperature is actually correct? Read more
Put a thermometer in the expansion tank to get a reading of the coolant temperature.
Compare that with what Diagbox is reporting.
I thought the warranty on these was 5 years now.
