Hi all
I have an old classic car and i have a dent in the car door panel, the issue is that this one is problematic in that the metal has stretched beyond its shrinkage limit. So what this means is that if i push it, it pops back in and leaves a hole and if i push it out from the other side it pops out and creates a mound. I tried hammering it at first but no joy then tried heat (hot air gun then oxy-acetylene) and cold (water then ice) treatment and still nothing.... Read more
Hi all, new to this forum.
Pulling my hair out with fuel pump issue, Fuel pump went couple of weeks ago and mechanic replaced it with new one. Then i started to notice a loud whining noise periodically mostly when driving around the town and stopping an starting and when idling and in low gears, also the fuel display that tells me how many miles is left in the tank was fluctuating quite a bit, which it didn't do before and i noticed slight loss of power sometimes or it was less responsive, and after some hard driving (when im delivering chinese at night) its worse and the smell of fuel comes into the cabin.... Thank you!!.. Took so long to reply because the master cylinder went on the clutch and had to get that fixed..What do you think i should do? should i bring it back down and ask him to fix the issue? but all he keeps saying is if he cant hear it he cant diagnose it which is very frustrating because i can hear it almost all of the time..Or is there something i can do myself? I can replace the fuel filter myself and put fuel injector cleaner in would that help or do i need to have the tank cleaned if there is any debris or dirt inside? Appreciate the advice
I currently drive a 2011 C-max. I would like to change it for an automatic and something a bit smaller. Would prefer new but would also consider nearly new. Budget ideally £15-£17k but might stretch to £19k depending on what I get for my car.
Must have - reasonably high seating position, 5 doors, good all-round visibility... Read more
On the face of it, it would seem odd for Hyundai not to replace a small SUV which is such a popular type of car at the moment.
I suppose the Kona is meant to fill that slot, as it's only slightly bigger than the ix20. Kia have the Stonic and the larger Niro....
I'm looking to buy a used Honda Jazz for around the £4,500. mark. I just tried a very nice 1.4 Si (60 plate). All seemed really great on it except that the steering felt noticeably heavier than the 1.2s I tried yesterday. The steering 'return' (on the Si) was a little less enthusiastic, too. It didn't feel 'wrong' in any way, just different (and I happen to prefer very light steering...).
The dealer said that she would expect the SI to feel different from the S as the Si sits higher. I think she also said it has bigger wheels than the S. (She also pointed out that differences in tyre pressure between the two cars could make a difference, but I reckon there would have to be a lot of difference in tyre presure to account for THIS difference!).
So is it indeed the case that the steering on a 1.4 Si should feel heavier than a 1.2 S?
"The main changes underneath the skin include revised suspension settings, a new set of dampers and a larger anti-roll bar. There have been some changes to the power steering too."
Unfortunately no clarification is given on what the changes to the power steering mean, but given the Si was supposedly a 'sporty' Jazz, it would probably be safe to assume that the steering is indeed heavier....
Hi all . Can anyone shed any light on why when I'm driving along my traction control light comes on and my car goes into limp mode
Thank you in advance for any help received Read more
my bet is that you have rusty wheel bearings making it dificult for the wheel sensors to get a good reading of the tyre speeds.
There seems to be quite a few engines which manufacturers have in many models..Merc 2.2 diesel for example in the C class, e class etc. wonder which engines have served in the most cars? Read more
I would say the Ford Kent, Pinto and Zetec engines.
Together possibly but individually no way....

A bit of background - I am preparing our Accord for it's first french mot.
Involving replacing rhd headlight units and moving the single rear fog warning lamp which is part of the rear lamp cluster, from right side to left side - and yes they do check it and fail the test if it's on the wrong side. Which means that strictly speaking, doing this means that the car would not be legal to drive in the UK if I need to visit.... Read more
Job done - I can have twin rear fogs, or one left or one right depending on which bulbs I leave in the holders - job's a good 'un!
I recently bought a 2008 Transit van from a dealer at retail price (£3800)

Hi. I have a pulsating idle. It starts as the engine warms up, at roughly 70-75 degress. The pulsating is perfectly rhythmic at 2 seconds high 2 seconds low 550 - 750. Then gets more pronounced the hotter the engine becomes upto the point when the rad fan comes on when the rpm has risen to approximately 950 to 1000k. When the rad fan comes on the rpm becomes steady at about 650. When the engine has cooled a bit and the fan goes off and the pulsating recommences. It's almost like the idle rpm is being governed by the signal from the 02 sensor...0.1 volts is low rpm and 0.8 volts is high rpm.
Another way to even out the idle rpm is to unplug the pre cat 02 sensor. This obviously triggers the EML but the rpm sits at about 650. Plug the sensor in and there's a bit of a delay of about 30 seconds and the pulsating returns. But I have to drive the car for a few miles before the ECU twiggs that the sensor and the EML goes out.... Read more
Sounds like you have an internal short in the coil pack if it was smoking and blew a fuse. I think I would want to replace that first.
Perhaps my neglecting to put that I replaced the coilpack immediately with a spare, made you think I'm that stupid I wouldn't have done it so you had to inform me to do it. I was rather hoping to find an expert who could possibly enlighten me as to the reason for the pulsating idle and why it stops when I unplug the 02 sensor or put some electrics on. Thanks for your input though.
Heat the dent to near red heat with a torch, bash it in with a ball-pein hammer to set the dent, sand it back to bright metal and fill it over with ordinary body filler.
