We need an estate car for transporting our dog around. She's rather timid, so a car with a low lip and a flat floor is essential. The Ford focus estate seems a good contender.

We tend to buy new/nearly new and run the car for 8-10 years, so long term reliability is a factor.... Read more

We've just paid the deposit on a 2017 Honda Civic estate. Very happy with it.

Thanks for the advice - it really is appreciated....

After quite a number of years having Sky TV, i have decided that there is not much point in having it. The youngest son has his own Netflix subscription, oldest son doesn't live with us, my wife doesn't watch TV, and after thinking about it, i realised that hardly any of what i watch myself is on Sky. Most of what i watch are on either the 'terrestrial channels', or channels which would come under 'freeview'. As there is no point handing Sky this money for something i'm not really using, i've been thinking about getting rid of it but have some questions (as someone not very tech saavy).

Would i need a TV ariel?... Read more

Hi BBD

My parents ditched Sky a couple of years a go and replaced the sky box with this Humax twin channel Freesat recorder. It can also connect to your router with a wireless connection for the catch up services. They never regretted replacing Sky with this box, it works well. It's a direct replacement for the Sky box and the dish doesn't need re-adjusted....

I own a 7 year old Honda CRZ and when I bought it I paid a rather ludicrous sum to get the manufacturer supplied space saver fittted in the boot well. I don’t have breakdown cover anymore (I had one year as a Honda approved used car) as I thought the car runs with perfect reliability so was ready to chance it.

A mate of mine has just posted on Facebook about getting a nail in his tyre on the M25 and as he has a modern Merc with rubber band wheels he had to be recovered off the M25 and then called what turned out to be a good mobile tyre fitter to fit a new tyre.

My question is if you have a puncture on a motorway(I never had had to deal with a puncture anywhere) are you required to get recovered off the motorway to then deal with the puncture in a service station or off a junction? If so does that mean you need breakdown cover in place to pay for it even if you hve a spare wheel or space saver? Do any of you have such cover in place mainly to deal with punctures even if you have faith in your vehicle’s reliability?

Not aware of any change in regulations (Brexit or otherwise) that would legally require a hi vis to be carried?

I think GB might be referring to the likely protests of the yellow vests when Brexit goes belly up.

Hi,

I own a VW T5 bus since the car was new. After 12 years of usage, when I was servicing the car it came to my atention that it is has a webasto sistem located on the left, between the fuel tank and the engine support. After a quick examination of the sistem I can tell it has not been functioning, or at least not functioning recently. The car doesen't have a activation panel or a key that could trigger the webasto so I came to the conclusion that its ther for the purose of helping the car to quickly heat up.
Any ideas on it? Read more

Has anybody recent experience of what test readings your cars are coming up with, and how close to the standard maximum allowed they are? I assume you get some sort of printout of the results with the test certificate. Read more

As promised, my ageing Toyota passed today with flying colours, though the reading has gone up a fraction, now 0.96 @ 2840 l/min...note to self, more Millers more Millers :-)

Again the limit applied was 1.50, even though noted on the test sheet No Limiits Plate visible, so i would have expected the 3.0 limit to apply, however not going to argue cos it's a pass anyway, i'll argue that point if she fails at just over 1.50 sometime in the future....

Hi all

Live in Ireland and some of these coming in second hand .very cheap compared to original price when first came out in UK.what I was told by dealer who's selling that the petrol 1.4 engine can be serviced by local mechanic but if any issues with electric generator or battery system wouldchsve to travel to northern Ireland which is about 5 hours drive which is ok if it doesn't give much problems. Vauxhall here is opel in Ireland and opel won't service Vauxhall ampera. So any Vauxhall ampera owners on this forum can please tell me if any issues with electric charging side of this car ... I think the 12 v battery on my honda CRZ is on the way out. It gave me a scare today when I’d been using it for short trips and the dashboard lights flickered oddly and it intially wouldn’t start. It did start but other CRZ owners have said the 12 v battery (not thr IMA hybrid one) originally fitted isn’t much quality. It’s 7 years old. I use the car once a werk.

Is there much difference between batteries available online? Soem crz owners have mentioned Yasusa brand?
Is it easy to swap in a new battery without messing up things like radio codes, alarms? Or is it best left to the dealer? Does the car remember it’s mileage when you change the battery? Read more

The Yuasa battery fitted to son's Yaris lasted for 11 years till it died. The one fitted to our Yaris D4D only lasted 9 years. The one in my Jazz is now 7 years old and going strong,

The Bosch on my Audi A4 failed at 4 years.

Fault codes are pretty much meaningless unless you have the tech data to support them. However, as a cheap and easy way to start the fix process, I would suggest you get the diesel fuel filter replaced.

My temperature gauge can often get very close to the red, if I’ve been sitting in traffic for a while (I am sure that I hear the fan kicking in, so that isn’t the problem). I then turn on the heating, but should I really need to do this? Should I get the problem checked out, or is this kind of thing normal on most cars? Read more
