Pls how can i inactivate volkswagen golf 3 sensor security? Read more
Caved in and finally bought a replacement (GS 46B24L (NS60L) 45Ah/20hrs) GF (doing the Taiwanese talking) said the "black hand" was just putting "liquid" in it when I arrived, which, if true, suggested it should be shiny and new.
My understanding is/was they were effectively charged at that point, certainly they are capable of starting a car, but when I got it home I thought I'd give it a top-up. ... Read more

12 years?
My my, we have come a long way. I can remember Ford P100s failing their 1st MOT on chassis corrosion and being written off as uneconomical to repair when they failed again in years 4 and 5.
Long time lurker...1st time poster. I'm in ROI but car models and spec similiar.
In laws need new car. They're trading fairly good car so budget not really an issue. ..but I'll say £35k rrp just to keep things reasonable. So far easy. However it must meet following criteria:
* 3 door only...my father in law, aged 80, in wheel chair. No longer drives. They intend to install swivel passenger seat for easier access. This can only be done in 3 doors car. In any event 3 door easier access. ..they never have rear seat passangers anyways
*must be petrol or hybrid automatic. No interest in electric. Do lots short journey so don't want diesel. Also get disabilty rebate on fuel
* must have boot big enough for wheelchair. But not a deep boot..and not too high off ground...ideally level loading area. Mother in law be lifting the wheelchair in and out and, although healthy, is 70.
*Must be reliable for 5 years. Although will only cover c. 50k miles in that time.
Bit of a head scratcher. They dont want van type mobility vehicle. Thanks in advance. Read more
Again on the B Max, I did read somewhere very recently that the warranty on the Powershift gearbox in the UK has been increased from five to seven years. I think the author may be confusing the UK situation with that in the US and Australia, where there have been class actions against the manufacturer which have obliged Ford to take a more generous approach. Nevertheless, I'm making enquiries to find out whether there's any truth in this claim.
If so it must be a very recent amendment, because my own dealer just a month ago confirmed that the gearbox warranty on my 13 plate car runs out next June.
i There,
I have a 2012 Mazda 3 and for the past week it has been making a strange noise at low speed. If I am accelerating from standstill in traffic it will make it after I’ve fully disengaged the clutch, or sometimes when I am just idling in 1st gear in slow moving traffic it will make the noise.
Not sure weather its my front breaks rubbings perhaps, or something to do with my clutch?
Any idea?
As soon as I get past 10mph it goes.... Read more
99.99% likelihood it's your brakes rubbing. Sticky rear callipers are quite common on these but even more common is rusty discs, mostly the rears which see very little use day to day so they corrode and rub a little. Take it in to a trusted garage (they're likely 5yrs old anyway) or just try braking hard a few times in a safe place when there's no traffic around to see if it clears.
This Is Money published what I think is a good list of the best and worst makes of cars, but it only lists what I would consider as "nearly new" cars - under 50,000 miles on the clock, so I would guess perhaps less than 5 years old. Link: www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-3039686/H...l
I don't know a lot about cars, but from my personal experience and what I've been told by other people, that list is probably accurate, but I'm wondering how many manufacturers would drop to the bottom of the list if we were talking about the kind of cars most ordinary people buy; ie, under £5000 and 5 to 10 years old.
I have not seen any list anywhere that spills the beans on which cars on the average used car forecourt are gems, and which ones are bucket-of-bolts money-pits waiting to curse the unwary.... Read more
My big Peugeot estate I owned for 4 years, bought 2nd hand, was safe, reliable and economic to run, and one of the best cars I have ever had.
Hi,
I have a 2011 VW Touran- it is due its MOT at the beginning of January. I know it needs new tyres and wipers, and hopefully little else to get through the MOT. I am planning to trade my car in part exchange for a new car. Do you think I am better off financially trading the car in now without spending anything on it, or should I wait a few months and get a better price with a full year’s MOT?
Appreciate any one with more knowledge of the car trade giving me advice,
Thanks Read more
Thanks for the advice- will trade it in ASAP.
Why do some people indicate right to go straight at a roundabout.

Thats nothing. ORB will know where in Colchester this is. Balkerne. There is a roundabout on a dual cabbageway. Where people without fail go into the left lane to turn right.
As a non local it seriously freaks me out but all the locals do it....

The centre arm rest/ storage compartment is very high and forces your arm in to an unatural position for shifting gear. ... Read more
I can't stand centre arm rests. If there is one, it is flipped out of the way. My elbow always hits it when changing gear.
A good arm rest on the door is another thing entirely. The padded ones are great for long journeys to stop a tender albow....
When looking at a used vehicle for sale in a reputable non franchised dealership-I noticed that three of the four shiny black well polished tyres on the car were all different makes. The sales guy said that when vehicles were prepared for sale it was considered good to replace the original tyres with good quality "part worn" . I don't disagree with that-but I balk at three different makes being used. Buyers beware?... Read more
I believe best practice is to have not only the same make, but exactly the same spec tyre on each axle - that is what I always do, anyway. I replace tyres in pairs.
And I've always shunned "part-worn" tyres....

I think you'v got a dud there. I had a dry lead acid battery delivered 3 or 4 years ago, for a m/bike. Quite a bit of fiddling about with concentrated sulphuric to reach the correct dilution and SG, then a day on charge and it was fine thereafter. Far easier these days with the ready-to go ones from the motor factors but appreciate you're in a different culture there.
