As a Honda HR-V owner, I've spoken to my Honda dealer ref a more powerful engine being installed. The last that I heard was that the 1.0 litre turbo of 129 bhp (130 ps) would be installed, but I'm not sure whether that would be mated to a CVT gearbox. Personally, I would have preferred the 1.5 turbo that's being fitted to the current Civic. Read more

Re Ssangyong road test I’m disappointed that tester wasn’t in my opinion the age group the vehicle is aimed at , I’m retired and test drove the same model and it did everything I require from a car ,with the bonus of a five year factory warranty ,and equipment level that is unmatched at the price . Fit and finish is a good as anything on the market , the quality of the seat stitching is exceptional at any price . Read more

I'm also retired, but don't believe that a car is specifically designed for the older generation, unless you include a Honda Jazz! I am in the market for a 4X4, but do not want one that is wanting dynamically, does not drive well or is compromised by design. I've never driven a Korando, and probably never will. My current favourite is an F-Type Jag with a petrol engine.

Hi all

im trying to remove my erg for removal. Ive managed to get the bolts all freed off but the access is a nightmare. I thought it would be easier to remove the cooler pipe at the same time but the valve doesnt have enough clearence to take it off the studs.... Read more

No doubt this has been discussed here before, so apologies for raising it again, but it is due to be introduced very soon.

How unusual - they used to strike for all sorts of reasons, and the first you would know about it was when you and your pupil turned up for their test booking only to find that their test was cancelled and it was re-booked for a date in three month's time.

Not sure if this the right area to post but here goes. Just rang Direct Line to renew and mentioned in passing I was driving to Italy next year and the helpful chap said you only have 3rd party cover when abroad. Fully comp costs a bit extra just for that period of travel. I did not know that but he said it is in the small print..hence I told you so! I will have to remember to ask for the upgrade. I suppose everyone else knows this! Read more

Not always - my Vodafone contract is free calls & text BUT data is capped @ 500MB, rather than 3Gb

It seems every engine has it's fans and detractors, often with merit in either case.

As for my experience, i've had over 200k miles of reliable motoring with a Land Rover TD5 engine including heavy towing, I know several people with TD5s that have made it to 300k, not bad for a 2.5. The rest of the drivetrain does get worn but i'm talking about the engine itself. .. others have had nightmares with injectors, headgasket failure, but that crop seems to have run its course now given that the last td5s were made in about 2007.. As I write this it occurs to me the td5s that have had a harder life seem to last longer than those on school runs!

I'm looking for some advice please.

I have a 14 reg ix35 2.0 Diesel 4x4 with 50,000 miles on it, current value probably around £8-9k and wondering whether to hang on to it or replace with a petrol or hybrid hatch or estate. I do around 15,000 miles a year, combination of urban and regular long trips and need to carry a couple of sea kayaks (up to 60kg) on the roof. The ix35 is comfortable, but drinks derv and has cost me much more than I would have expected (brake discs, calipers and the inevitable TPMS valves snapping no matter how carefully you look at them!) plus the dealer is a long way away.

Short list is 2016 Auris Hybrid tourer (£16-17k at a Toyota franchised dealer and I'm not averse to an auto) or a 2012-2016 petrol Civic 1.8 (a fair bit less and I can get serviced locally). New Mazda 3 is out as will only take 50kg on roof.

Any suggestions - do I just run the ix35 into the ground or am I asking for DPF/DMF trouble here in the next few years?

Thanks in advance Read more

Not an issue unless you can't judge the size of your car and can't reverse using the mirrors. I've had no trouble reverse parking vans of various types and sizes (currently a VW Caddy) over the years, none of which have had rear windows, parking sensors, or camera's. So i am amused at folk moaning about the lack of rear visibility out of a car!.

I just wait until I hear the crunch of metal/plastic, then I know some adjustments are needed.

Anybody know where I can buy a couple of pinch bolts cheaper than Renaults who want almost £9 each? Online search was unsucessful but could have missed someone. Read more

Just remember the old Adage, a chain is only as strong as the weakest link. You can have the thickest shank possible on a bolt and the core size of the threaded portion will still be the weakest part and the part that will fail if the load imposed exceeds the bolts capability.

If the bolt was subject to possible side forces (such as suspension pivot bush bolts) then I'd definately use a plain shank bolt but, pinch bolts are not subject to such forces.
