My 2.0 16v 406 had faulty stepper motor and TPS. I replaced the stepper with new Magneti Marelli one but didn't change the TPS. I notice that after about 30 minutes of driving engine bay is too hot. If I keep my hands on TPS and stepper for few minutes my fingers will be burnt. I want to know if the high temperature causing TPS and stepper problems? car temp gauge reads 90C. Thanks in advance and sorry for bad english. Read more

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/11/16/car-tax-evasio.../ So an expected £7m annual saving has in fact turned into £107m lost annual revenue, now that there are no paper discs. Doh!
In unrelated news, Russian cosmonauts successfully use pencils inside spacecraft; Jorge Mario Bergoglio is found to be following a religious organisation based in the Vatican City and Brexit negotiations are proving to be a tad troublesome. Read more

We need the serial number. You may need to pull the unit out - there will be a label on it somewhere.

I've been having a problem with fumes getting inside my Focus. They are even more obvious if I open the bonnet and take a good sniff - they appear to originate in the engine area. They're getting inside via the vents.

My mechanic inspected the exhaust, fuel injector seals and much else. He came to the conclusion that the issue was caused by two things: the fact that the EGR valve was stuck open plus the need for a DPF regen. So the EGR valve has now been changed and the fumes do seem a little reduced. But there's still a kind of smoky, sooty smell getting inside.... Read more

Last night in the local pub, this old chestnut came up again. The screen washer top up at services. A friend was charge £7.50 for a top up with a nearly empty bottle left in the footwell for 'free'. He reckons that this VAG dealer carries out a minimum of 10 services per day. At £7.50 a throw that is at least £18500 per annum. For washer fluid!!!! Money for old clog irons in my book. I told him I used to fill mine just before servicing and photograph it, then get the offending item removed from the final bill on the grounds they could not possibly have topped it up. It was quite a game as the service manager knew exactly what was coming after each service. But he was powerless to stop the system from automatically charging for the item, and had to put through a manual refund each time.

I wonder how many other small items are used to scam punters? You only need a couple more like this one to pay for the managers annual salary. Very sneeky pool!!!... Read more

I was billed once for a can of spray lube, which I presume the dealer had used on things like the door hinges, locks etc. I think they charged about £10 for it, plus VAT.

The remainder of the can (i.e. almost all of it) was then left for me in the boot of the car in a small carrier bag. On the bag, along with the dealer's logo and phone number were the words 'We used some of this product on your car at the service today, please find the rest provided free for your own use with our compliments"...

I have just had a very dissapointing but interesting telephone conversation with Citizens Advice regarding an issue that I have been experiencing with Nissan and a number of their their dealerships. I have concrete evidence that false claims are being made in relationship to a vehicle that was previously replaced by Nissan, due to a major manufacturing fault, and I have since found that the vehicle is now for sale with claims that it was an ex demo and various other claims that I can prove to be entirely false.

Back to the conversation with Citizens Advice regarding Trading Standards; Imagine my surprise when I was advised that there was little that would be done about my complaint unless it was found that the respective dealership/manufactirers had behaved in a similar fashion on numerous occasions - any isoated incident would probably not be investigated and did I still want to go ahead....
