In case anyone is thinking of taking out an MB service plan, you can use code PROMO150 (can only be used this Friday). Having done my calcs it makes a lot of sense to take out a 2year/2service plan for my '63 C250, especially given in 2 services time my ATF change is due.
I don't think the code applies to AMG models or the Smart brand. Read more
I have code p1335 on my car as wont start, have put new crank sensor on and still the same. Fuel pump replaced so Iknow thats not the problem. Any suggestions Read more
Hi all
I recently bought a Vauxhall Corsa b 1.2 16v 2000 reg. It seemed to drive fine and then partway home the eml came on as I hit 60mph and the engine seemed to struggle to reach 65mph. When I dropped the revs and changed gear the eml went off and it was fine at a lower speed. Also, I noticed that from a cold start it would hardly move in 1st gear with my foot to the floor. I’d have to restart the engine and then it would be fine.
I took it to a garage and they plugged in a diagnostic machine and couldn’t find any fault codes. They did a test on the exhaust gases and concluded the catalytic converter was blocked. They recommended a cat cleaner. Used the cat cleaner for a good 20 plus miles and still no change. Took it back and got a new cat. The catalytic converter hasn’t solved theissue. The engine is still hesitating at high speed. I’ve changed the spark plugs and coil pack. Disconnected the battery to try and reset the ecu. No change.
The cars not long been serviced as the oil is still golden.
I’m going to try changing the air filter, fuel filter, maf sensor and also the crankshaft sensor. It’s going back to the garage today as they suspect the lambda sensor may need a clean/change.
Any other ideas? Read more
maf sensor . thats why it wont run from cold. cheap quick fix.

Talking of pollution. Has anyone had a look on the "net" at planes round an airport.
There are thousands of planes per day over the U.K. alone. Just one plane uses more fuel for take off than I will use in my lifetime with my car.On the T.V. a few weeks ago i watched a documentary on cruise ships and there was more pollution on the sun deck than in Manchester, caused by the diesel engines so why pick on the poor motorist. All the talk of this global warming just keeps the boffins in a good job. History tells us that the earth has been warming up for thousands of years
So who is going to run the tests? Manufacturers?
In that case how long before they are caught fiddling the figures again?
I don't trust any of it!

I'm a fan of diesels My current car is 10 years old, done 160k miles and time to change but I can't justify doing that now.
Things that will happen over the lifetime of my next car - 10 years:
- Diesel tax will go up. Think cigarettes tax...
- Local councils and cities will increasingly surcharge me for either living there or trying to get there in a diesel.
- And i don't believe that the road tax i pay wont be targeted as well, even for an existing car.
There is just too much risk in choosing diesel now.
Hmmm...5 of the 10 are VW Group vehicles. 7 of the 10 are German. Really need to hand it to the marketing departments of VW, BMW & Mercedes!!! Read more
Many years ago bought a 330d small mileage ex BMW staff car. The dealer tried to persuade me the petrol version was equally parsimonious.
Few weeks later drove to Italy, filled up in Le Havre at 0730, one top up en route small quick lunch, tour around Chamonix for a look see and was in the centre of Milan at 1630 having sat at about 100 mph all the way and did 42mpg. No way in the world a petrol car would have got even close.
When we sold we got a premium. Due to stupid and inaccurate articles like this plus the largely extravagant bad press second hand values may currently be down. Good time to buy !
On my family members 05 mk5 golf 2.0 gt tdi with 148k. Emissions workshop text displayed and check engine light on clocks. Car seems to be driving fine with no cutting out etc
What is the most likely cause of this? Only has a glowplug warning when they got it plugged in at their mechanics last week (going to see if anybody local has vcds/vagcom) Read more
I've got VCDS. Whereabouts are you? The glow plugs would bring the engine management lamp on if one or more had a circuit fault.
There are otherwise a whole load of possibilities why the lamp would be on. You need to get it scanned and go from there. Without any information to work with you're only guessing.
Often difficult to diagnose, and even harder to convey to someone who hasn't heard the noise for themselves.
For example, I have a new clutch in my Powershift B Max. Its meant to overcome the notorious problems with this transmission, and as a result I'm ultra sensitive to any new sound. ... Read more
I did have another unidentified noise with the van. This one was even more frustrating/baffling/annoying because despite 2 seperate visits to the garage i use, they couldn't suss out what was causing it. And was something i had become increasingly aware of for at least 6 months up, to shortly after the fan belt being replaced. It wasn't really an intermittent noise as such, it wasn't 'random'. But at certain (regular) times it seemed to happen, and while it was sometimes very faint, at other times it was pretty loud. It was a ticking noise, which seemed to coincide with the wheels turning. From the drivers seat, it seemed to be (definately!) coming from the n/s front. Anyway, there was one day i'd started to work, but contrary to what the forecast said, the rain started in earnest. The noise had been particularly noticable on the way to where i had been working, so with it playing on my mind, i phoned the garage (again) to ask if they had time to have another look/listen. I should point out, that the mechanics had not actually heard the noise on either of the other 2 occasions i had asked them to investigate. I was told to come up, and all the way there i could hear the noise, to my ears, very loud!. Got there, the mechanic went out, came back and declared, again, that he couldn't hear anything!. Byt this time i was fit to burst and the boss suggested i take the van out, he would come with me and see if he could detect anything. I could hear the noise myself, though it was much quieter than it had been, but the owner of the garage wasn't so sure. Back at the garage, he put it up on the ramp again, for another look, 1st at the front n/s, then at the other 3 corners. After about 10 mins he shouted me over saying he had found a possible culprit, but not at the front, at the back. The handbrake cable was slightly loose and was very close to the n/s rear wheel, so close in fact, that it was catching on the balance weight on the inside of the wheel rim every time turned. He did point out that heat, length of run, weather, etc, could account for the fact that the noise was not constant. I was just delighted that it had been identified and sorted, though i am still baffled by why it sounded so much like it was coming from the front!
Is there such a thing as a VW approved non franchised service centre?
