My automatic gearbox keeps going into limp mode while in drive. Itp then brings up the transmission cog on dashboard with the error code gear monitoring 4 and gear monitoring 5. When i put in sports mode it hardly even happens. Once the engine switched off for a min the error clears. The car has only done 75000. I have searched online was followed advice about trying new battery, cleaning maf sensor and checking connections but to no avail. There is no other codes being stored. The gearbox is a sealed system and cant check level on it. I have spoke to several mechanics and they just recommended trying a specialist but since the car is getting on a bit i would rather leave this stage till last resort. Has anyone came across this code or recommending trying a few other checks? Read more

Best thing to do if find a specialist, maybe find a member of www.fedauto.co.uk/ an take it in asap before it destroys its self...

Hi, in a bit of a quandary. My cmax has 56500 on it, so just in warranty. During a recent long motorway journey the clutch pedal stopped releasing properly, the pedal very slow to return and only released 2 thirds. On shorter journeys it releases ok but feels very spongy. Anyway had it to my ford dealers today and they say it definitely has a problem. To diagnose it they need to remove gearbox at 4 hrs labour at £102 per hour. Ifor it turns out to be a warranty item it will be reimbursed but if not I have to pay. So minimum £400 diagnostic. Rang ford and they aren't interested. So don't know if I should just forget warranty and pay a cheaper independent to fix it, or gamble on warranty. I think it's unfair to be charged so much to find out if it's warranty covered. I've asked if they will accept an independent diagnostics and they won't. Any ideas? Is it likely to be something covered by warranty? Clutch doesn't feel likes it's slipping it just feels spongy. It's not the return spring in the pedal either. Also very occasionally when pulling away in first the car makes a squeal sound for a few seconds, but only occasionally. Any help or suggestions appreciated. Read more

The master cylinder is not in the clutch housing or the gear box it is the engine compartment. Regards Peter

I have Yi Dash Cam. It is good for the price. But it has some bugs. For example, "urgent recording" button does not record 15 seconds before and after press. It records 15 seconds after press, but before press it is a lottery what you will get. It can go from 2 min and 45 sec down to 1 sec. Because this camera splits files in 3 minute parts, it depend in what part of that video file you press the button.

Here is my footage: www.youtube.com/channel/UCGKkBthxymVMSpbptXR8leQ It is set at 1080p and 30fps. If I set it to 60fps, it lags when playing a video on computer (it could be that my computer can not play 1080p at 60fps videos).... Read more

Hi..Thanks for all the advice...he has decided to stick with the devil he knows, and like many have pointed out...don't chance buying someone elses problems, he is going to try and save for something half decent, providing his current banger doesnt go chips in the meantime. Thanks again.

Last week I noticed that bracket at the back of my exhaust was snapped. I took it in to a garage who fitted a new bracket. The next day when going over speed bumps i noticed the exhaust was still scraping over them. I took it back and the man attached a piece to try and lift the exhaust up. Next day same problem with speed bumps. So I went back again and was told that the bracket on the back box was broken and as it had been welded before I would need a new back box. So today I went to get that done and was quite surprised to see that the whole exhaust looks like it has been replaced as I had a chrome tail pipe before. Cam anyone tell me if this is normal practice? It only took him about 10 minutes and when I went today I was expecting it to take a lot longer as I thought it was just the back box that would be replaced. As a female I am concerned I have been ripped off or is this normal? Read more

From my experience of Peugeot 306s, 307s and 308s, the hanger bar is welded onto the back box and there is no clamp type bracket as such which would wrap around the back box.

A couple of years ago my indie told me after my 207SW's MoT test that the rearmost bracket was rusted through. It was a wrap-around one at the rear of the back box. I ordered a new S/S one on the web and fitted it myself the next day. Total cost £15, no welding needed....

Just in case anyone happens to be interested Radio Caroline, who were the UK's first Offshore Radio station back in the sixties, are currently carrying out Test Transmissions for a new service on 648 kHz. They are using a Community Radio Licence which was awarded to them by the UK regulatory authority OFCOM earlier in the year.

Their transmission site is located on the Suffolk coast and the signal is travelling, well, let's just say, far and wide! ... Read more

It was already privatised. The BBC was nationalised, that's the point I was trying to make.

In general Conservatives believe in free enterprise, well they did in those days.

As a hybrid driver I believe this issue does not matter that much now.

Paying for the power on public chargers is almost the same price as putting petrol in.

I only charge at work or home and no longer use the likes of Ecotricity or CYC.

The reduction in government subsidies to buy the vehicles, increased costs to run due to charging for electricity in public areas and diminishing BIK charges for company car users indicates the government feel they have achieved their objectives in this area & are no longer pushing hard to attract new users. If they genuinely want to encourage people to invest in this technology - which is higher priced that ICE cars they need continue to offer financial incentive to buy and use these vehicles.

Its like claiming to have climbed a mountain whilst jogging up the foothills. There is a long way yet to go. Read more

I live in a village with no mains gas, so my electricity supply is on the Economy 7 tariff. I could charge an electric car overnight at the cheap rate, but the high initial cost of these cars is a disincentive and will only fall with mass production.

I am old enough to remember when the first colour televisions cost as much as a new Mini, but high demand soon brought their prices down.

After mentioning on a couple of insurance related posts about how happy i was to deal with a local broker, and the service i got from them, it seems i may well have been well and truly shafted by them!. I happened to be looking at my business account online and checked my direct debits and standing orders, of which there should be three. One for road tax, one for public liability insurance, and the last one for the van insurance. Only what i discovered was that no payment for the van insurance had been taken from the account since March. This means that i have probably been driving with no insurance for possibly 4 or 5 months now without realising!.

So, in an absolute panic, i looked up the broker i used only to find that they appear to have become a different company, which does not do vehicle insurance, it seems to be oil industry related stuff. So i then looked into van insurance, specifically for window cleaners (past experiences suggest most 'normal' insurers stumble when, after answering questions for 20mins, i get to the fact that my van has a 500l water tank in the back, they then say, oh, we can't cover that!)....
