Hi All,
As per the previous thread I had an accident in my Kia Cee'd about 2 weeks ago; the third parties insurance company had their approved repairer collect the car last week to do an estimate and get it repaired or so I thought.... Read more

Hi
I am wanting to replace the rear brake pads on my 2007 Landrover Freelander. My question is Do I need a special winding back tool or can I use a g-clamp to take the piston back?... Read more
Properly serviced and lubed, sliding pistons should be able to be pushed home wih just gentle leverage with a relatively thin screwdriver, this applies whether they are single pistons with sliders or twin/quad opposed.
Never yet needed a G clamp, except when using 4 to hold all the shoes in to try and bleed the notorious (for bleeding) Landrover Series drum brakes.
There was TV programme this evening illustrating how good hearted people are supplying bags of food to schoolchildren whose parents can't feed them adequately. They also interviewed parents. What they didn't ask them is what car they drive, how many they have, and what expensive mobile phone they use constantly to talk to friends.
Hi everyone, so I'm looking at buying a used car to replace my current 1.0L runaround as I crave a bit more power and yeah regardless, I'm looking at upgrading. I've been looking at a 1.4 Golf GT tsi which costs around £2,500 and I don't have the money yet, but I will in 2 months or so. They're pretty rare cars though from what I can see, only 5 advertised on autotrader and only 2 below £3,000 which is my maximum budget. It costs just £1,300 a year to insure with one responsible additional driver, which is actually less than I paid for my current car for the first year. With 1 years NCD, the insurance drops quite a lot and I'd like to upgrade my car as I can afford to. My main problem is that I can't find any cars with a 0-60 of between 7-8 seconds and a top speed of around 140 mph, as well as having a decent amount of equipment and being practical (5 seats, decent boot e.t.c). In summary, I would buy the Golf GT now in a heartbeat if I could, but it's looking highly likely all the good ones for low price will be sold by the time I get round to being able to afford it. Does anyone have any alternatives? Would really appreciate your help. :) Read more
Octavia VRS petrol (avoid older VRS diesel as they were early adopters of the DPF and it was a poor implementation)
Also how about a faster model Honda Civic (type R, type S etc...)...

Sorry, but for 'V' serial number codes you need a Ford dealer or one of the paid services.
I think it's correct that they need protection from the idiots but do have doubts about police resources being used to this degree? Perhaps they are undercover for all activities not just purely for cyclists. Read more
We want all road users to obey the Highway Code
With a lot of our roads being as slim as they are its never going to happen, especially when Cycle riders only obey the highway code when they feel like it, then jump on the path after holding up 1/2 mile of traffic- look back and laugh at what they have done...
Hi, I recently purchased a used T5 VW Transporter Shuttle automatic(last week) The car was purchased from a used car dealer.
The van came with very little service history and due to its mileage (130k) we decided to have the timing belt and water pump done. We had noticed a slight noise when parking and asked our local garage to give it a once over. They recommended that we have a specialist automatic gearbox garage check the gearbox, which I arranged and informed the garage purchased from what was occurring.
The gearbox garage have confirmed that the van needs a full rebuild at a cost of £3100 + VAT. The garage the van was brought from have said they will not pay for this repair under any warrantee and have instead offered to give me my money back plus our old car which we part exchanged.
They will not give any money towards the works we have already undertaken and the garage is not really local to where we live. We want to keep the van and have the gearbox repaired, what are our options?
Any help would be most grateful.

VAG stuff was generally pretty good, and on the whole above the average European standards up to the mid to late 90's.
However, I have no doubt from 2000ish onwards they had some quite stuning, basic, engineering errors which they refused to acknowledge and in some cases refused to put right for many years. It seems part of the basic company culture is to lie and deny anything and everything. I think a modern car, serviced inline with manufacturers recommendations should do 10 years and 150k miles without major incident. You'll never get 100% of course but they should generally do this and VAG had far too many cars failing with basic design errors early....
