I would like your thoughts on what to get for my next car...

Currently I lease a Focus with the EcoBoost engine. The two year lease is coming to an end and although its been a good car I fancy something a little different. Possibly another lease or maybe buy something nice.... Read more

Thanks for your reply.

No, I wouldn't touch the Diesel. Older Diesels tend to be bad news in my experience. I have also found that prestige German cars older than about 5 years tend to run up big bills - particularly if you use their dealers....

Smart move on VW s part to enter the Chinese market with the Passat B5 which became a familier sight on their roads as a taxi.
Then for Audi to become really popular on the back of this trust shows how to win over this difficult market. But tensions with Japan may have some consequence.

This Order amends the Fixed Penalty Order 2000 (S.I. 2000/2792, “the 2000 Order”), which prescribes fixed penalty amounts for fixed penalty offences. The 2000 Order is amended by adding a new fixed penalty amount for the offence, under section 41D(b) of the Road Traffic Act 1988, of contravening or failing to comply with a construction and use requirement as to the use of hand-held mobile telephones, or other hand-held interactive communication devices, while driving.

Previously, an offence under this provision fell under entry 4 “Any other fixed penalty offence involving obligatory endorsement” in the table in Schedule 1 to the 2000 Order, and therefore carried a fixed penalty amount of £100. This Order inserts into the table a specific entry for the offence under section 41D(b) of the Road Traffic Act 1988, with an associated fixed penalty amount of £200.

SI 2017/104 - The Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988 (Penalty Points) (Amendment) Order 2017
Prior to this Order coming into force, a person committing an offence under this provision would have received three penalty points. A person committing such an offence after this Order comes into force will receive six penalty points.... Read more

Hi all,

I recently had the cracked mirror glass on the driver's side replaced and have since noticed that the heating element on that side isn't working too well. When I turn the heated mirrors on, the passenger side clears up fairly quickly however on my side the glass barely clears up at all. To the touch the passenger side is hotter. I'm just wondering if this is because they're two different bits of glass or because something is possibly broken.

Any answers will be very much appreciated, cheers! Read more

Voltage across the batter terminals should be approximately 13.8 volts with the engine ticking-over if the charging system and battery are OK.

The voltage should rise to approximately 14 . 5 volts when the engine is revved, but should drop back down to the 13.8 volt area afterwards....

Hi John I have a 6000cd I have a audio guide book it has the code in it for the radio and the instructions for radio but when press number 6 and wait a secound or two it will not let put numbers in it just says code 1 I have pushed number 1 repeatedly and nothing happens can you help Read more

Galaxy

Sorry to hear that.

Well, it sounds like the radio is locked because someone, at sometime, has attempted to enter codes that were wrong too many times, and this has caused the radio to become locked. If the turning the radio on while pressing Button #6 method hasn't worked then there's nothing more you can do, I'm afraid. Your radio is either locked or it is faulty....

In October last year I bought a 6 year old Landrover Freelander from a registered car dealer for £15,600. The car was serviced, MOT'd and had a 6 month basic warranty. 29 days later the car broke down on the motorway. From the AA van I called the dealer and asked if I shold get it revovered to him and he told me I could take it to any garge, so I had it recovered to a Jaguar / Landrover specialist that I have used previously. After much diagnostic work and repairs including a new fuel pump, new ECU and fuel injectors, all costing me over £3,400 the car was back on the road. Twice we offered to give the car back to the dealer for him to look at and repair and twice he refused, saying that my garage had caused the fault. The warranty company refused to pay out as they initially said they would contribute @ £400 towards the fuel pump, but retracted this and said renewing the pump did not fix the fault so they would cancel my claim. They refuse to pay the repairs and I am proceeding the claim through what most know as the small claims court. I claim the vehicle was not of satisfactory quality, not as advertised (he said it had one owner when in fact it had two) or fit for purpose in that it broke down needing extensive repairs. I feel sure that I can take this to the court myself without getting expensive legal advice that I can ill afford but would welcome any help or advice you can offer.

For instance, the first line of the dealers Particulars of defene is as follow.... Read more

Agreed, there is no substitute for professional advice.

I remember back in the day my old Dealer Principle would spend at least an hour on the phone almost everyday speaking with the various legal eagles helping him out with various issues, most of them consumer....

Currently have an Audi a1 s line 1.4 s-tronic, won't be purchasing at end of PCP term only because of long term risk of the dry 7 speed gearbox. It has however been excellent so far.
Anyway, I would like to get another premium hatchback next time that must be automatic, preferably torque converter box but also something that I can believe to be reliable for a decent length of time.

Am I right in saying i should rule out 4 cylinder bmws, 1.8 mercs and anything with a dsg!??

And if so, what's left!!! 6 cylinder 1 series. Not many more?? Read more

skidpan

If the A1 you have on PCP has been with you since new and has been properly serviced it will be less of a risk than a 12 year old BMW.

Any 12 year old car is a potential money pit.
