I have a vauxhall signum 1.9tdci on a 2006 plate. Problems started last year when the car started dropping into limp mode. I was able to turn the engine off and on again which would clear the warning light, the car would run fine again for a few miles, before dropping back into limp mode. This would carry on for a few days, then the car would smoke a lot for a few miles, but it would then clear the problem for a few weeks before repeating all over again. I had a diagnosis done, no error codes just a dpf problem was found. I was told as I was only doing short journeys the car was getting clogged up, and to try and force a regen. Which I did, and car was fine for a while. Then problems stated again, but this time when you turned the engine off and on it wouldn't reset itself and was stuck in permanent limp mode, the car also was struggling to start from cold. Had another diagnosis done still no error code. I had a new dpf filter and pressure sensor fitted to the car and it ran perfect for two weeks, then the same problems began again. It seems to happen more when doing faster mph than when just pottering around at low speeds.Car has had a new egr valve just before I brought it two years ago. Does anybody have any ides as to what it could be, don't want to keep chucking money at it. Thanks

Did you have a diagnosis to determine it was air mass meter, did it shows that as a code, it's strange as it run fine for two weeks, after having dpf done.

Hello, I am seeking legal advise on an Enrolment Contract for my 16 year old daughters entry into a Sixth Form College that both she and us (as parents) have to sign.

As it not motoring related I have not posted it in the "Legal Matters" forum.... Read more

Nice encouraging words Concrete, thank you.

Our daughter is very athletic, so hopefully in time she will find something she enjoys and pays well enough to live on?

Hi everybody, i am new to this forum and have a query regarding cars fitted with cvt gearboxes.

My wife gets a motability car and when we got our last car, just under 3 years ago, after years of 'struggling' with manual gearboxes (she has problems with her legs), i finally persuaded her to go for an automatic. We decided to go for a Hyundai i30 turbo diesel, this was partly due to the choices on offer from motablity at the time, and also because the Hyundai has a 'proper' torque converter automatic. After having read plenty of horror stories regarding the reliability of dual clutch gearboxes, and automated manual gearboxes leaving their drivers stranded in busy junctions/roundabouts due to the delays between pressing the accelerator pedal and anything happening!. As i suspected, she has found the hyundai much more pleasant and easier to drive than a manual gearbox.... Read more

The 'problem' isn't so much the width of the car, but the thickness of the doors, with all the crash protection built into them. So when you open the door, you've got considerably less room between the inside of the door and the B pillar to squeeze out.

I think your quite right what you state but after more research and a visit to my local garage and their input I believe it may probably be a combination of sticking valves in the box ( perhaps gungy fluid) and need of a fresh filter and fluid change being the first port of call as I originally thought.

The car has been standing over the last few years with very occasional outings and only 600 miles in the last year. The garage didn't think it was a major issue....

Hi, Hoping I can get some advice on this topic, basically I had purchased a private Reg, B1 MHY. I had it on my Black saab 9 3 and sold the car to a guy from Dublin, ROI. I never had experience in changing plates and wasnt aware that I had to put the plate on retention first. The buyer re registered the car within 28 Days and got a ROI Plate, 10 - MH - ....., and in the North the car is still showing as on the car I sold. I called the DVA and was advised that it is gone unless the car comes back into the North. The buyer will work with me but my only concern is VRT. If the car is brought back into N. Ireland, re registered, MOT's and Tax''s for the purpose of retention. and goes back to ROI, will the buyer need to pay the €1800 he paid originally? Thanks Read more

So that scuppers that idea then unless you can sweet talk someone into letting you have the plate back.

This sounds more like a thermal cut out rather than a so called fuse. Similar devices have previously being integrated into cigarette lighters.

Surely a 'Crowbar' type of thermal device would be better though possibly more expensive? This would blow a fuse located in the fuse box rather than in the heater unit. Read more

A friend leased a Jaguar xf and 1 year in has had an accident where the car is a write off. As he does not want another jag he has been left with a huge shortfall between what the insurance company are paying and the "penalty" for early termination and the balloon payment.

Not a happy bunny!... Read more

Not much to add other than to reiterate GAP insurance can be handy and not cost too much. Don't get from dealer or broker as they will put a premium on it. Just shop online. Should be around £200 or less. LandRover try to charge £1100 ??

That's insane.

When we bought the Z4 we took out a 4 year GAP policy on it for RTI, cost £212 through Frank Pickles.
